Declaring War On Entrecard

I woke to a flood of emails and other messages this morning from people wondering what is going on with their Entrecard accounts. Well it seems EC in their infinite wisdom has decided to declare war on its users. I was hoping for change with a new partnership, but not a rampant pogrom. Some of the biggest users and best promoters I know including myself have had accounts purged.
I was happy to sick back and wait this out, but the fact they have made the first aggressive move against users means the war is on. Any company that doesn't know what it has in its user base deserves to go down in flames. I am no more than happy to help them on their way

It's true sadly. I haven't traded EC or anything or sold them so far. I had like 5 blogs on there. 2 got deleted. I was able to get one up again since for some reason, my blog did not have the widget.
My other blog, of the lollopoloza concert had music playing, and they deleted it, since they said it could not have auto audio or whatever. I don't remember reading that in the tos-
my dear friends and advertisers,
administrators of entrecard have decided to delete my account for just ONE reason: it´s trilingual content.
*
main content is english, BUT entrecard says, quote: "If your blog has sections of German and French then it is not 100% English. 100% English means that every post is written in English."
*
i am so sad and sorry, because I love entrecard, i love you, my blog collegues.
*
i have received over 250 ad-requests and approved them as well in the last 4 months since my membership. what shall i do? what´s the solution?
-
I don't think I really get entrcard because I've had my photo blog on there for a while now and they keep sending me emails telling me about changes but, basically it seems the same to me.
I find it useless for my main blog, but I've found some great photo blogs there. -
I haven't had any problems. Follow the rules and you won't get deleted. The people who were removed were probably ones who should have because they weren't updating their blog, just harvesting credits.
-
they started deleting blogs for rule violations 6 hours after they emailed out the rule change. They are also going out of their way to eliminate people who use adbrite advertising since it is related to spott, a similar service. Entrecard has screwed there professional bloggers big time and are going to pay a heavy price for it.
-
-
I quit using entrecard a while ago, because I had log in problems for a week which they couldn't or wouldn't fix. For a while, I was number 3 in my category. When I left, I got little or no return traffic from Entrecard users. They were just passing through.
-
Entrecard's working great for me. It allows me to pull people in who might never have otherwise found my blog. And I've found a healthy amount of new quality blogs to visit, too. No complaints here.
-
I just have such a hard time with the idea that someone who is providing something free has the capacity to "massively screw" its users. I'm "massively screwed" if someone, for instance, steals my car while I'm at work...not if I suddenly find myself no longer getting blog traffic from one particular source that I wasn't paying for anyway.

Good Man Linc!!
But, like the nice person above intimated, wars are no fun. I find Entrecard to be a great resource - I really do. The newer rules are intended to weed out credit farms and silly practices (IMHO) such as autoplay music. If you were 'grabbed' for these things, it's easy to put them right and then get right back in. And, if you don't want to put them right then ,no worries - Entrecard is not for you.
I also don't think the 'Adbrite' point is correct in any way...
But do please look hard at it, before you go to war on it - it's a good thing! Honest.

@bradhart
If blogs like yours are getting deleted, then I am glad to go back to entrecard and give the person who deleted a pat on the back.
"Some of the biggest users and best promoters I know including myself have had accounts purged."
Are you kidding me? I know some of the biggest users, I am friends with some of the biggest users, and you mr.bradhart is no "big user". I am glad that your blog is deleted. -
i am member of ec since 6-7 months... i have 2 blogs and my blog is still active which has adbrite ads since its inception....
-
@guptas Don't count on your blogs staying active with their new partner. They want nothing more than for you to shell out $30 for their not so great advertising scheme. I have yet to meet anyone making more than they spent on it. Expect new rule changes soon to exclude blogs with other ad programs or banner exchange.
-
-
I checked your site out, after clicking away all your ads and weird stuff I think I found your blog. Lets just say that I understand you're at war - it seems you are declaring war on the whole world by having a blog like that.
If you clean it up and start blogging, I am sure Entrecard will welcome you again, hey everyone deserves a chance, but you have to try a bit. You're not now.
-
Alright, someone jab him one last time, he'll be down for the count. This isn't a war, this isn't even a battle, it's a slaughter. Where is your comeback? That's right, go hide in a cave, go sleep under all your adbrite ads.
-
I gave it up months ago. I think it's useless, and I used some of my credits to buy a product that I never received.
-
A large portion of my regular readers/commentators are the direct result of having dropped their cards on my blog. EC is working great for me. I realize the shop wasn't working and folks like MissMae tried unsuccessfully to purchase items. EC has reimbursed credits to everyone I know of who has had this problem and asked to be reimbursed.
I also know they do not like deleting blogs. They maintain a very high standard and I really appreciate that. Auto-play music, pop-up ads, splogs, no blog posts for months...no blogger of quality wants to visit sites that do that.
EC has its guidelines and I do not at all find them unreasonable.
-

-
Been with EC since Dec 2007 and I found that the EC community is fantastic. Well, EC has its downs but over the last couple of weeks, Graham has been quite responsive to feedback and the recent changes with regards to the sale of credits will be beneficial to the entire community in a long run.
@bradhart, perhaps you could be more specific about how EC 'declared war' on its users. I think that might lead to a more mature discussion. Otherwise it sounds like mere flaming to me.-
most of the people who told me there accounts were close got absolutely no email giving them a reason. No one from EC would respond to them. I have seen their downfall for the last several months I just didn't expect them to start going after users. Several of the people I couldn't find any TOS violations on, but they did all have one thing in common, they questioned the value of entrecard.

Frankly I'm delighted Entrecard deletes rubbishy blogs. I've wasted more time trying to find something worth reading than I care to count, but recently things have been getting better and the proportion of readable blogs has improved. Keep up the good work Entrecard and keep out the splogs, empty blogs, auto-play music and the like. You're on a hiding to nothing bradhart.
-
His site has a SKIP THIS AD? Oh, c'mon. This will be this moron's biggest traffic day. Please stop visiting his site. Trust me, there's nothing to read there.
-
Well, there's one thing to read, because I promised to do a guest post for him before I understood what the site was like. I kept my word, but wouldn't ever do another. I got the "skip this ad" even when I was logged in. I learned the valuable lesson that I should check out a site before I agree to contribute. [hands bradhart his tin foil hat and settles in with baldeagle] Hey, baldy, I've got a margarita if you'll share those chips.

You say:
Any company that doesn't know what it has in its user base deserves to go down in flames.
There great "pogrom" happened precisely because EC admins were listening to their users. If you spent some time in the forums you would have seen thread after thread asking for a ban on splogs, credit harvesting sites, auto-play music and splash page ads- from their most prominent and loyal members. Graham et al took into account what the community wanted and acted in our best interests. If you were caught up in the great blog purge, then too bad.
You could take this opportunity to attempt to change Graham's mind though. You say that you've received hundreds of emails from folks crying, er, I mean, reporting that their blogs were deleted. Perhaps if all of those folks (yourself included) would go into the forums and state your case, you could turn the tide to your benefit. (This would be sarcasm for those that don't recognize it).
I'm personally ecstatic that I'll be able to drop now and not have to deal with the full-page ads and auto-play music (my own pet peeves). I'm under the impression that your blog not only has a splash page, but also is bogged down with ads (I tried to click, but sadly ran out of time waiting). If that's the case, then I second the good riddance to bad rubbish.
One more thing: You also say that this all went down without members receiving notice. You're wrong. I've got the emails to prove it. If you'd like I can post a screenshot. I suggest, if you're going to start a war, to begin with facts. Those always come in handy.-
Your reply to my comment makes absolutely no sense. What I'm really saying? Sheesh, man, please consider a course in reading comprehension.
What I was "really saying" was that your blog didn't pass the smell test. Your bad. It has nothing to do with what I want as an EC user.
I want to drop and earn my 1 EC but not if the blogger is going to make me work for it. How very pathetic.
This makes no sense whatsoever. If the blogger (you) wants me to go through a splash-page, then the blogger (you) has lost a hit. Simple as that. I'm not responsible for your revenue. If the blogger (you) wants me to bide my time and go through their method of monetization then the blogger (you) had better make it worth my time (which is basic marketing). The blogger (you) who thinks I owe him or her my time is the blogger (you) who doesn't get a hit from me. Too bad so sad.
And no, I didn't go to your site. You're not interesting enough to make me want to wait and spend my time wading through crap to get to it.
Good riddance.

-
I don't want them anywhere on my network and working hard on removing it from 50 plus blogs. If I could come up with a way to sell 35k EC and make it worth my while I would. Right now I just could care less what EC is doing since they are on there way down as another failed idea.
BTW thanks everyone for complaining about me to your friends, someone has sent me more than 100k visitors today.

I'm still trying to fathom how you consider yourself among the biggest users there. If this were actually true you'd have been aware of these changes. I for one, am very pleased with the stance Entrecard has taken to get rid of the rubbish. It's been long overdue.
What actually surprises me is the fact that Blogcatalog allows your type of blog in their system. I always felt their standards were higher than Entrecard's is.-
Monkey heavy user and active user are very different things. Just because I don't spend my time in that forum which frankly is full of whiners, doesn't mean I am not drawing tens of thousands of drops a month over the various accounts I either active run or manage. Keep jerking off to EC and maybe they will pat you on the head tell you what a good little pet you are.

how funny. brad, if you are not happy with entrecard, just don't use this free service. it isn't like you paid a monthly fee. no need for the dramatics like declaring war. i don't think entrecard is a good site for popular blogs, or for long term traffic/montization strategy, but it's a free way to get some nice junk traffic to your site. whenever i launch a new blog, i set up an entrecard acct. it's a free source of traffic. much like blogcatalog.
-
There are so many uses for Entrecard, use messaging to connect with someone who shares the same interests, go look for tips for your blogging at the forums, or simply visit your category mates (those who like the same stuff you do)... EFFORTLESSLY.
With those features and much more, is it TOO MUCH to ask that you remove your audio ads and your skip this ad ads? For every one of those email you received is a hundred more that sent complaints about poorly run sites. And frankly, we are SICK of those.
What's wrong with wanting to view good posts without getting blasted by music or forced to view an ad?? -
Why would someone want to invest energy into "waging war" on a "failed idea" that "deserves to fail"?
And as MadameX asked in her all too familiar good sense, How did a free service for which you paid nothing "screw" you? It's ONE traffic source, and frankly, if it's your only or even your biggest traffic source, you're already screwed.
I just don't get the (implied) (false?) fervor here. If it's a failed idea, don't use it. If it's a good service, get in compliance and reapply. It's simple, no drama necessary.-
It's appearing to be a false fervor designed to get him traffic from HERE-- this thread-- because of folks trying to figure out his dealio.
Though, I hasten to say, the negative exposure he's gleefully touting in a few places in this thread is probably not going to be a bunch of return visitors grateful to subscribe to his feed.

First, the war on communism.
Then, the war on drugs.
Next, the a war waged against immorality.
Which lead to the war on terror.
Now...... the war on EC.
Our enemies are getting more malefic by the decade.
Look out muskrat families- you are next! -
Hahaha. You understand what rules ar? You broke them by having under 5 posts and having annoying adverts.
What is it about this that you do not understand? Do you think its ok to annoy people with this popup adverts? Do you think having a blog* with less than 5 posts counts as a blog*?
Entrecard is a free program. You did not pay a thing to use it... You decided to make the drops and you decided to put those adverts on your blog*. Entrecard is looking after its members by removing annoying blogs* that make their system look cheap. Your sites did not offer anything to any readers apart from an ad-fest and useless information.
If you ran EC would you really want these types of sites on your network? If the answer is yes then by all means start your own... I am sure spammers and people like yourself will enjoy the adverts and lack of content.
When using ec i like to find REAL blogs*. I like to know I will not have crap popping up. These new rules do this... and people like you are what keeps the MODS busy... and less features its users.
Oh and OIO is not run by EC. It is just a partner.
* Blog/s -
A blog (a contraction of the term "Web log") is a Web site, usually maintained by an individual [1], with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

I had lots of good experiences with Entrecard. I was saving up my credits to give them away in a competition, but with the new changes I'm just going to use them all for advertising and close my Entrecard account.
-
It is amazing how many of you keep complaining about the blog ion general yet the traffic keeps showing up.
-
Yes ok. You make a post and got people interested... But they are only interested because they want to see how lame your site much be to be removed from entrecard.
Now lets take a look at your Alexa:
www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/bradtheblogboy.com
Now one point id like to point out here is the countries visiting your blog. None of them even have one... They are all "Other countries" which to me looks like BOT traffic (Maybe paid for?)
I see nothing in your alxa to back up anything you have said. I have checked most of your sites and this is about normal for yours.

It is probably one of the dumbest services on the face of the earth and with everyone buying into it you are getting what you deserved. All it is bloggers trying to get traffic to other bloggers it doesn't actually give you readers or real traffic. You get what you deserve for using it.
-
If you can't use a free service to your advantage, that's telling a lot about you. Go download all ebooks on catching traffic and getting eyeballs on your content, buy in any program that tells you how to moneytize your site. If you can't see how getting people who can read to your site can help you, maybe it's not the system that's the problem. Maybe it's you.
If you don't actually get real readers from entrecard, then your site is the problem because these are people browsing not scripts. People with credit cards, pets, businesses, houses, spouses, girlfriends (ok maybe not all) and computers. Would you believe it, these people even have INTERNET at home?!?
If these people are not the "real traffic" you are talking about then maybe the good Martians can help you.

Graham has posted a response on the ECblog: entrecard.com/blog/?p=571
EC has the same problems as blogcatalog, people abusing the system to leave their avatar or drop their card or whatever. While a lot of traffic coming from EC does seem to be people just dropping and running, I have also noticed a lot of people who have found great blogs using EC and love the service. Overall, i think it's one of the better tools out there for getting traffic, but like the blog post says, if your content isnt grabbing people's attention you have bigger problems. -
That ECblog is a competition to win more useless Entrecard credits.
It does not in fact deal with any of our concerns, instead it points the finger at Entrecard users. The message we get is if you don't like the changes, tough. Entrecard does not care about the concerns of its users because if there are qualms, there must be something wrong with the users but here's a competition to bribe you into thinking Entrecard is great anyway.
-
I don't understand why people are complaining or even declaring war about a free service. Every service has their own TOS much like here on Blogcatalog. If you can't stand their terms of service then leave.
-
Well I won't be coming back after I set up an account with the wrong URL by accident, bought some credits to advertise the blog and then was told my account was deleted and my money would not be refunded.
ENTRECARD IS A BIG FAT SCAM!!! DON'T BUY CREDITS FROM THEM. THEY ARE NOT A REPUTABLE AD AGENCY. IT IS FINE FOR FREE SERVICE BUT NOT FOR PURCHASING ADS...I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE TICKED OFF BY ANYONE FOR THEIR RUDENESS!!!
*INFURIATED* -
It is your fault in the first place that you misspelled your URL. If you did indeed misspell your URL then you better get some better advertising than EC's to promote it.
-
Wait a second.
Entrecard did delete DocNicole's account after taking her money. One of the first principles of user friendly design is allowing a user to retrace their steps in case they make a mistake like, say, entering the incorrect URL. Oops!
I don't think it is sound business practice to take someone's money without delivering the service you sold do them in the first place. Secondly, if the account is deleted, then surely asking for a refund is not unreasonable, since no service is being rendered in the first place?
-
-
A refund was given. It may help to keep the comments to the original thread, I have posted a more detailed reply there.
www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/down-with-entrecard-
I am sorry if you believe we acted inappropriately, but we refunded your $6 extremely quickly, and did everything we could to assist you. In return, we were threatend with legal action at every step of the way, initially before we were even given a chance to reply. How could we have handled this differently?
That seems reasonable.
My main reason for getting rid of Entrecard is I don't see the point of the transfer tax. I was gathering credits for a future competition, but now the transfer tax would take a chunk out of that. Having a competition for 1000 Entrecard credits seems attractive, but I don't want to put in fineprint that claims it's before transfer tax etc. That's silly.
I could still understand if the transfer tax only applied to those who bought credits, but not for users who earned their credits by dropping. -
The tax is in addition to the amount you transfer. So if you transfer 1000 credits to another member, that member will get 1000 credits. You will be taxed on top of that amount. So you lose 1000 credits + tax, but the other person gains 1000 credits.
We have one member of our team assigned specifically to contests. If you tell us about your contest via contests@entrecard.com and the contest is approved (most will be) then we can handle the transfers for you, no need to worry about the tax.
