Discussions

I will keep my own opinion to myself, but there's much discussion in the media about this, and mixed feelings.

Some people feel Amy shouldn't have been awarded because of her alleged drug use and rehab stint. That this sends the "wrong" message to the younger generation.

Others, however, believe her personally actions should be completely separate from her music. That she put out an amazing album last year and it deserves the recognition, attention, and praise.

Do you have any thoughts about this?

Yea the grammys are about talent not personal drug use. Just because she is a crackhead doesn't mean she cannot sing.
  2. Unfettered
Yeah... because musical awards haven't ever been given to known drug users before.

YES! Talent is different from personal life.

    Awesome CD

The award is for her talent, not her lifestyle. I definitely think she deserved it.

As much as I hate what she does in her own personal life, and I do hate that she may be influencing teenagers and young adults with her behavior, I agree that Grammy awards are given for MUSIC...nothing else. I don't recall Grammys ever being based on morality. If morality were a factor, there are many, MANY musicians who should never have received a Grammy in the past.

i'm with unfettered. i'd say drug-free musicians are definitely in the minority. this isnt the olympics after all. let the girl enjoy her well-earned glory!

[Pictures senate sub-committee hearings about musicians using drugs. Pictures the amazing jailhouse jam sessions that would follow. Half-wishes for it. Realizes that many fabulous musicians would simply leave the country.]

Like kristilinaeur said, the grammys are not morality awards, so yes she deserved a grammy for her phenomenal voice (her voice reminds of ella fitzgerald and her song "at last").

Seems like there's a general consensus. I was watching listening to the View online earlier today, and they got into a heated debate about it.

Absolutely! She has great talent and was judged on that. Unfortunately she's got some personal issues she needs to work through... hopefully the awards she won will be a wake up call that people are looking up to her and she'll get this together and get out of it.

I think she deserves her Grammy for her album.

If those who are involved in voting the Grammy's think she is the best, so be it. They are entitled to designate the winner to Winnie-the-Pooh if desired. I've never heard Winehouse sing; the only news splash I've heard include her problems with the law and drug addictions.

What is important to remember is that such a vote does not equate to "a majority vote for US citizens". I never watch the Grammy's so don't care two figs who wins.

I think that her personal matters have nothing to do with her talent. People still honor R. Kelly and Michael Jackson, and their allegations have to with minors. Winehouse on the other hand may be doing something illegal, but it's her own body she's messing with. Not a kids'.

With her weird hair style and unique voice? why not.. plz don't even think about the lyrics.. how 'bout Eminem the Marshall Matters.. full of violence words in his lyrics, yet, he got the grammys Yeay ya!

Agree...award is for her talent...not her lifestyle.

Disagree on influence on teenagers...when I tried drugs in high school, it wasn't because Richard Pryor was doing them...it was because my best friend was! (and his catching on fire didn't stop us either...lol)
