Did you ever have to sit on one of those benches at the mall to wait for your fellow shopper and see all the amazing sort of people who pass by? Sometimes it can be out right SCAREY!

Over the years I still find this an interesting "sport". I like to try to guess why they are there and what they do for a living.

Long time since I spent more than 30 minutes in a mall.
And I don't think I did this, even though I can image myself doing something of this sort.

Well I don't it a habit, but sometimes when I take my teenage daughter shopping I end up waiting for her to try on clothes. Oh, the drudgery of it all!

I'm always watch little children, they're so cute and funny
    1. BetsyIckes
Hahaha They are the best! And the best con artist at the mall! They are certaintly in their element there!

The only reason I go to the mall is to watch people. I hate shopping. It's the most boring thing on earth.

I have to agree about shopping! I must have the recessive gene for shopping in women. But I can say the telephone gene is the dominate trait in me LOL

At the mall. Well I actually love to shop so no. Now at the airport with the infernal delays and reshuffling I enjoy watching people.
    1. BetsyIckes
Yep That would be my next place to people watch. I like learning about different cultures. Working at The American Redcross, I've met a lot of facinating people. Now since I've started blogging, I'm still learning new things.

There was one time when I was a kid, I sat on a bench whilst waiting for my mother and my sister.

I watched closely on this two siblings. One big brother (high school kid) and his little brother playing, hugging and fooling around with each other. Y'know being brothers.

It left me uh, longing and wishing as I do not have a good relationship with my big brother. I was slightly envy with them as well.

To think of it, it happened more than once.

    There my little sappy story.

I remembered one time when I watched this elderly couple make their way to another bench to sit down. While they were sitting there, the old man reach over and rubbed his wife's shoulder tenderly. It was touching to see the love and caring these two had for each other after all those years!

Yes, but not in malls which I tend to avoid like the plague. I live in a village where people watching is fun since we attract a lot of wanna be hippie and alternative lifestyle types.
    1. BetsyIckes
Hmmm hippies...reminds me of the good ole days! Sorry, I was grew up in the 70's, back when people named their children Joy, Chassidy, Faith

I like to people watch on BC
    1. BetsyIckes
Yep BC has quite a few different personalities!

I like to try and deduce things (Sherlock Holmes style) about strangers on the tube...that can be fun.
    1. jafabrit
I used to love doing that in London Now I do it on the subway in D.C whenever we go there for business.
    2. BetsyIckes
Yes I think that can be interesting. Then I think, if I'm watching them are they watching me? You know that feeling like someone is watching you?
    3. Epicharis
I tend not to stare at people on the tube! Just glancing at their shoes, their shopping, the way they sit, what they are reading, what they are wearing...I'm not sitting opposite people with a clipboard or anything!

I like to pretend that a person is about to commit a crime and I try to catch details that would help the police to identify them after they question me. I also just like to see the shenanigans that people get up to in public, even though you'd think they'd have been raised better than that. I don't do so at the mall, but I do love to people-watch at the park or in restaurants.
  12. ranist22
Yes it happens. I love to watch people.
  13. MissSuzie
Ah, yes. I often watch the couples walk by and pretend their relationship is as crappy as mine. Quite therapeutic.
    1. BetsyIckes
It is funny how people will talk about anything in public like they have this invisable wall around them!
  14. UncleBeau
I go to the mall to sit next to and stare at people sitting on the benches.

Did You Ever People Watch At The Mall?

That is the reason I go to Malls
  16. GeorgiaBelle
Ive always enjoyed people watching no matter where I am. When Im in the grocery store waiting in line, I like looking in other's buggies to see what they are purchasing as well. haha
    1. Epicharis
do they sell babies at your grocery store?
    2. BetsyIckes
I like wathing old couples and wonder what they use to look like 50 years ago!

My wife and I "people watch" pretty much everywhere we go. It is a "sport" of sorts with us. Guessing what they may be doing, buying, if that is really the spouse, are those really their kids, and so on. It's fun.
    1. BetsyIckes
Yeah It is like being a detective.
  18. GeorgiaBelle
@SiuilARuin, no they do not.lol. Maybe I should have said shopping carts! :-)

I used to work at the mall for almost 7 years. Mall watching is a competitive sport for mall workers. The stores have cache. More expensive stores have more cache than cheaper stores. High end retail worker snobbery.

Anyway, one of our favorite games was matching the shopper with their most recent purchase.

The slutty mom with her 3 screaming kids just bought pink thongs from the Victoria Secret clearance bin. The mall teen girls in the fake UGGS just bought feather earrings at Forever 21. The bored Dad just got a pretzel at Auntie Anne's before meeting his wife at JCPenney. His wife just bought flair stretch khakis and a maroon acrylic sweater with little sparkles in the knit.

    Staring people in mall?

I think I prefer looking to stuff that attract my attention to buy.
  21. dekadaye
people watching is so much fun!
  22. Sam1982
I people watch anywhere not just at the mall - people amuse me, especially when it turns into a celebrity lookalike game.

Im probably at my worst when in my car, I can't help but look at the person next to me if I pull up at the lights

One time when I was at a bar, this guy came in looking like Rod Stewart. We all just about died laughing because he looked so corny!
