Yes, it's true, there is a politics board.

www.blogcatalog.com/politics/discuss

It was started during the last American presidential election. There used to be a badge on the right here that advertised it. And then there was notice of it on the front page. Now there's no link to it. I don't know if that means it has been sentenced to death or not, but maybe some of you who joined relatively recently don't know about it and might be interested in it.

One warning: Like the current atmosphere in the U.S., it is a pretty partisan place. But if you blog politics, you might find it interesting.

Meanwhile, maybe BC could give it a link again, or find a way to integrate it in the main boards. It's not like the politics section is any seedier than some of the stuff that goes on here.

This isn't in the "what did he know and when did he know it category", is it?

The plot thickens. Did you slay the links?

Heh, pretty partisan indeed. You get the political versions of old vaudeville comedians whose jokes are so old and creaking, ya know what they're going to say before they say it.

The boards could undoubtedly use some cool new fresh faces to liven them up and make those vaudevillians work a little harder for their yuks.

      Nice perspective. I like it.

I went in for a bit right after the elections, but it was too partisan for me. And since I'm in one of those pathetic little irrelevant "third parties", I usually caught fire from both sides even on stuff I thought one or the other might have rallied on.

Party is thicker than blood in some of those discussion.

I actually started a thread about one of the little parties—and little parties in general—recently: www.blogcatalog.com/politics/discuss/entry/pirate-party

@Dane- It does seem that way. It has the potential to be really interesting and active, if it had the right balance of people to dip into it.

Currently I read it and just do a lot of headshaking as talking points, rage, and worn cliches substitute for wit and solid information.

nice try, little red mutant dog... But I shall resist your temptations to increased blood pressure and hours of aggravated banter with the resident politicos.

@DM: That's funny. I actually think it's fun riling up both sides, although I haven't done it in a while because the issues on which I disagree with my party (GOP, disagree with them on Abortion and Gay Marriage and some environmental and consumer protection issues, I'm more a populist/libertarian then a conservative) are hardly ever discussed these days. And anyways, I don't think it's so much a matter of "party is thicker then blood" as, like it or not, conservative and liberal ARE the two most common political philosophies in America today, and the newspapers and TV stations (which report the information) are largely themselves of one or the other - there are next to no major libertarian, authoritarian, communitarian, Christian Socialist, Anarchist, labor union democrat, liberal conservative, et cetera journals in the US. There is some populist journalism (populism is big in the Southeast and West, and is growing in influence) but even that pales in comparison and usually has to share space with conservatives (on Fox News) or liberals (in the Washington Post). And that's why we're better informed then anybody else!

I was aware of the political board but I can never find it now. I did see a link off on the right yesterday and went in there for the first time in months. There really should be a text link on the side column so we can find the board.

I have to agree with Jenn. I mainly just read the threads and usually find the talking points and rhetoric too much for my taste.

Evening bump (U.S. Eastern Standard Time).

Bring it back to the main discussion board so those of us who hate politics can read it and weep.

I had a hard time finding it as well, it certainly isn't something they appear to want to promote, even the tag say political not politics though when you click it it doesn't bring you to the political board unless you look to the right and see the politic board sign.

It isn't really very active so I doubt they are gonna lose sleep over it.

I grew Very tired of blogging about politics and talking about it online. It is indeed very partisan and that makes it a lot less interesting imho.

I'm pretty much only talking politics now, not blogging it. I found the presidential campaign so long and so intense that I just don't have the energy for it anymore. We seem to have entered an era of the permanent campaign.

I demand an Orthodox Jewish board here. I'm converting soon and want to segregate with my own kind.

OB-watch the documentary: Hasidism: A Life (World?) Apart. You may have second thoughts about converting.

Well if Offended gets an Orthodox Jewish Board then I demand a Scientology Board, no matter what ya'll think it is a religion!

Isn't Rastafarian a religion, too? If so I'm converting to it after I convert to Orthodox Judaism.

I tried posting there. No responses. It's invisible in mainstream discussion. I posted the same in General and presto! People got yakking

Not sure, but the greatest Politics Board that exists anywhere on the Internet (in my humble opinion) is the one at Tigerboard.com (Nick's Board!): www.tigerboard.com/boards/list.php?board=5 I'm a frequent inhabitor!

The Politics board was a great idea, but when I visited a few times to investigate the threads.. things got too personal.. People were being attacked for their views and beliefs..and even where they lived... For some reason Politics bring out the worst in a lot of people and when you put that together with the anonymous persona you find on these internet forums.. Yikes!

I personally feel that everyone has thier own views and ideas, and just because they don't fit in with the supposed democrat and repubican's idea of what is right and wrong..doesn't mean they are not feasible.

The times I visited it didn't seem like a politics board, it was a I hate you because you are democrat, I hate you because you are republican, I hate you because you chose not to choose... Ugh! And as usual the arguments get personal and nothing is achieved.

Hmmmmm.. sounds just like most threads on the main discussions.. lol
    1. crazyTsu
      in other words, fun..

I agree Arcticulates, because most Politics Board "discussions" involve a bunch of name-calling and "so we did that, but your side did worse" (i.e. two wrong make a right) sort of argument. Most of it is pretty mindless. As a proud Independent, I love to laugh at the two parties and the extremes that control them. That's my favorite thing about Politics Boards! (independentrage.blogspot.com/) and (www.tigerboard.com/boards/list.php?board=5)

What we need is an Apathy board. Where we all go to not give a s***.
