For those who don't know, you can sign up with google to leverage on their google analytics to keep track of your progress, including number of visitors, where they come from, how long they stay with you, which page they visit the most etc

Yes. I use Google Analytics (free) and WebSTAT ( www.webstat.com/ - free service available, but I pay for the additional tracked stats).
There are other tracking services available. I've found Google Analytics more than adequate, but plan to keep paying WebSTAT for now. For starters, the WebSTAT reports make tracking performance over time, comparing one year to another, quite easy. -
I use Sitemeter. I like that one. Go to my blog and check it out.

I do not like making that much info available to the general public.

Yeah. I started my new wordpress blog novel (thelasttheory.com) 2 weeks ago. With a little SEO, I am getting around 100-150 visitors a day, according to wordpress. Since I am hosting in Wordpress.com, I am not sure how to incorporate 3rd party analytics like Google's. For my other blogger blogs, (www.thecodevalley.com) I use Google Analytics. But, from using both wordpress and google's analytics, the metrics seems to be different. Definitely Google give you more data, but wordpress, give you relevant data.

I was using specifically BlogFlux mapstats for a while.
I later added sitemeter. They both pretty much concur with each other on the number of visits.
Average during the week, is about 30 uniques, and around a further 15-30 beyond that of repeat visitors.
Weekends are slow, unless something major happened and I bothered to tap something out about it. -
I got 800 visitors from JUST last 3 days!!!
Use google analytics!

Of course, I coudln't have done it without Social Network sites like BlogCatalog and StumbleUpon. And, since your reading this, you already know the power of BC!!!! Make it a SUBC sandwich and you can't lose!-
@ outsidemybrain:
Wow! Congrats on your uphill climb of visitors. Great Job! You do have a great blog, my visitors have been steadily climbing too. Maybe around 50-75 a day most days, tho I still have days where there is just a few 10 or so.. Which they are just as important. I have been having a real hard time trying to figure out stumbleupon workings.. Just not enough time in the day lately...
-
@Arcticulates: Thanks! I hear you about not enough time in the day. It does take some time to build up your network (without spamming people) on StumbleUpon.
If you are serious about wanting to really boost your traffc with it, you should read this article my friend wrote about how SU just recently updated their algorythms.
StumbleUpon Has Updated its Algorythms
www.linkbackproject.com/2008/09/21/stumbleupon-has-updated-its-algorithms/
There is now a difference between a "friend" and a "subscriber". You can network with your friends by sending them your blog posts (or others you want to recommend) by using the "send to" button in the SU toolbar. Friends are now "mutally agreed upon" by both users.
And subscribers can see, on their own homepage, whatever pages you give a thumbs up to AND review. The review is critical. Without the review, your subscribers won't see what pages you have Stumbled.
Hope this helps. Congrats on the steady climb of your blog!

Question: Did you know how many visitor have your blog per day?
Yes I do.
One one blog I have wp sts and sitemeter.
On the other I have awstats, wp stats and sitemeter.
I'm happy with the information I get now. If I ever feel I need more detailed information then I'll install Google analytics or woopra again. -
I have installed Statcounter on my free WP blog, but it won't give the referrers.
Is there another similar site which would give more complete stats?
To answer the OP's question, not that many hits unfortunately.
I do have the odd inexplicable sudden spike once in a while, but not as often as I wish. -
I have a free WordPress blog and it has pretty good statistical information. I also use the free version of Sitemeter. I like its world map function, so I can see where people are coming from.
While I'm interested to see what entries get the most traffic, my blog is personal and I tend to write whatever interests me. I post almost every day. It seems that consistency has paid off more than anything else. Last February I had 200 hits. This February, I have about 1,500 hits. Write it and they will come

I have guest blogged a post entitle "How to track your Visitors." Would you like to read about some major tracking services like statcounter, Analytics, Mybloglog, feedjit, Feedburner? If yes then here i provide the link bloggingwithsuccess.net/keeping-track-blog-visitors
Thanks -
-
You should but you will have to set all its feature to know the exact number of site visitors. further you will have to exclude your visits from tracking. Go through the above article and i am sure you will know a lot. This is not promoting my blog rather you will be visiting a very useful blog. So dont think otherwise. Lol. Thanks and smart tracking.

i used plugin (statpress on Wordpress) to track my visitors. I usually get around 500 unique visitors in a day, feeds, spiders and total hits.
more likely visitors are referred by search engines.

Yes. That's why I have stats counting programs. If you are looking for stats counters and programs here are some free ones that you can check out.

If you become a community donor here at BC you will also have access to their awesome live tracking stats program. -
I have Google Analytics. Blogsvertise has daily numbers too. But they don't match up at all. Both claim that their numbers are page views.

I've tried a few different things and so far StatCounter is my favorite. Started in March '09. For the first several months, I averaged about 20 unique visitors per day.
More recently it's been moving steadily upwards, 100 - 200 visitors per day.
Also had a little spike last week when a promotion for an upcoming speaking gig went out. -
I generally use StatCounter and Google Analytics. I have also used Sitemeter in the past. I like StatCounter and Sitemeter since they give real time data as opposed to Google Analytics.
I am only getting about 30 visitors a day but my blog is still relatively new and I think I am starting to make progress with promoting it so hopefully soon enough it will be receiving much more traffic. For the record, I love every single one of those 30 visitors. It sure makes blogging much more worthwhile when you know you have people reading it.
