Did You Upgrade to Wordpress 2.5?

I haven't, because I'm scared I'll screw up! Is it really that much different than 2.3?

Tough question. It's different. The admin layout is a lot different. I really hate the way they did the widgets. What used to take 3-4 steps to change now takes about 20 clicks. Personally, I liked 2.3 better, but I upgraded for the security boost. 2.5 is supposed to be a lot more secure.

For easier navigation in the Admin area try the Lighter Admin Drop Menus plugin.

It saves me time getting around

I didn't know there was an issue with security before. I don't like the sound of the widgets though. Part of why I went with Wordpress was because of how simple everything is.

On my SBF blog I did because it's newer. No problem except the auto plugin updater didn't work and a couple of plugins were no longer able to be used. My Darfur blog is a free WP and they auto updated that already. I'm preparing to do my regular blog. When I do that one I back up, and back up again - sort of obsessive compulsively before actually doing it.

My wordpress.com updated automatically. It took me a week to like it. Now I wouldn't go back.

I've upgraded about 6 out of my lot so far. You get used to the interface eventually.
What you have to do is remember two things:
1) It is a major upgrade and it's hard to go back - so, make sure you have a backup copy of both the files and the MySQL database before you upgrade.
2) check codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Plugin_Compatibility/2.5 first to see if you are running any plugins that do not work with 2.5
I use InstantUpgrade plugin to upgrade my blogs and it still takes about 7 seconds to upgrade. -
Hey There happyfood,
Be sure to back up your site and your mysql database... Then go for the glory... I'm scared every time I do a major update, but then I have crashed my site about three or four times, so I have learned to back-up and I also know when my host does their back-up. So if I really screw up, I can always pay a few bucks and get back to where I was... Good luck...
Still thinking of that Drupal site? ;-) -
I like it, and I was worried too, but I just followed the instructions on wordpress.org, and it worked fine. just make sure you follow it to the letter.
