Although I will be linking to a post I wrote on my blog, I did not put this under shameless blog promotion. If it needs to be changed, just let me know.

If you use digg, you are probably aware of the big shakedown that took place. Users and getting banned by the hundreds! Our very own Benny Greenberg and many others were just banned in the last 24 hours. It is ridiculous and uncalled for. Many were banned without any prior warnings. Most are not using the so called "script".

Personally, I think Digg is screwing itself and people will go to another site. If you lost half your friends there, why bother?? Here is the post I wrote about it and so far, most seem to feel the same as I. If you are a digg user, please weigh in on the subject. Have you been banned or lost many of your friends there? Check it out.

My opinion is that people, who game the system ruin the system. Whether or not that gaming took place via a greasemonkey script, or through the rapid formation of unoffical gangs of hundreds of "friends" that constantly Digg each others posts, the fact is that it did take place. These "connections" are obvious so I'm not surprised there was a clean-up. I'm just surprised that it didn't happen sooner.

P.S. I won't be leaving Digg and even if I did my presence there is so small that it wouldn't matter if I did. lol

Being one of the 'gamers' who were banned - let's clear something up. The script I used let me go from my shouts to the site directly to read it. Then I dugg it if I liked it. Yes, it did give me the opportunity to blind digg - but to ensure I wasn't digging something I wouldn't, I had to check the article out. Titles can be very deceiveing. The other script let me shout to my friends who had not dugg the submission, which allowed me to share other peoples submissions and not SPAM those who already had seen it. Is this criminal?

Thanks for your support Kelly. I hope you are able to get digg to give warnings - then revoke people if they do it again. Digg doesn't need to be dumping people just because they work on the internet - they are still people who like to socialize. Mixx and propeller will do. Digg can digg its own grave if it wants to.

Well said. I find it ironic really. They pride themselves on being a "user generated site", but when their members find a way to use the site in a more productive fashion, they ban them! Sounds more like a user restricted site to me.
