Do I play the game wrong? Following to be followed.

These messages in my shout box, 'follow me and I'll follow you' and the various similar threads here on BC drive me nuts.
I refuse to follow someone just because they offer to follow me or because they say they have visited one of my blogs.
Am I playing the game wrong?
Is it even perhaps rude of me?
All I know is I hate the shout box messages and I hate the threads.
Is it just me?

I do agree with not following something if you don't support the content, because in a way you are promoting that which you follow. I do check out almost all sites I stumble upon, within reason. But more than that, there is simply no need to spread the word about something you in fact wish to choke.

Burner, It's just you.
I really enjoy receiving pointless "follow me" notes in my shoutbox. The best are the ones with instructions: Go to my blog, stay for 2 minutes $$mile at my ads, leave, wait for 2 minutes, return and $$miles again. I will do like wise.
Yeah, I LOVE THEM!! -
Yes, I got one of those telling me I have done such a good job of maintaining my blog (that is 6 days old...) Love it.
My blog is content based. I have ads but monetizing the blog is not why I have it. I'm like to guy on the corner with the guitar. You throw money in the can, great. Either way, I'm still playing.
I follow people who I find interesting. That's it. That's the list. -
I am new to this but I also had this. I love the people who say 'i found your tips very interesting'....mmmmmm my blog is personal and kind of takes the mickey out of life in general so Id be worried if someone followed my tips of how to screw up love relationships
Anyway it just reminds me of those leaflets you get in the post...You can either discard them or keep'em....I dont give it much thought.

Question: Is it just me?
Answer: You are not alone. This kind of lame and aggravating behavior has become so prevalent that there is a "community grievances" thread about it here. www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/some-grievances-with-the-community
- I'll follow you - you follow me and I'll comment you - you comment me threads
Threads of this nature violate forum posting guidelines and are subject to reporting and deletion. Every thread posted to this discussion forum must motivated by the intent to initiate a discussion. Consequently, link only and drop your link threads are not allowed on this forum.
Link exchanges are, however, are allowed in BC groups and there are such groups.
Why link dropping is not in your best interest at BC

For so long as it's possible to set up an account here for free, I really don't think that it will be possible to avoid this kind of thing. That's the trade-off.

This must be synchronicity.

I say yes without hesitation to everyone who requests me as a friend. It's quicker and easier than feeling indignant or worrying about it.

I don't have monetized blogs so when I get the annoying shouts that claim others have "kissed" my ads I click the "spam" button and send the PM to Admin.
When I see click fraud requests in threads the forum I check to see if the member is new or not. I then click the report button. But because it takes so long for Admin to delete threads, and because new members may not understand what they did wrong and repeat the same behavior again I sometimes post this for their benefit:
Click my ads - click fraud requests
Please do not post anywhere on the BC site requesting that other bloggers click your ads on your blogs. Doing so will prompt other members to report you to BC Admin as a spammer, and report you to Google Adsense for breaching their policies, which you agreed to, in order to get an account.
Requesting that other bloggers click your ads is called click fraud and it's a breach of Google Adsense policies and the Terms of Service. It can get you banned and blacklisted. www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=48182 -
The Far is Beautiful: That's Why I Am Your Guest
I will write here a few Turkish proverbs about being new one in any place...
1. An inexperienced landowner employs an inexperienced stephered [Acemi ağa acemi çoban tutar].
2. A man becomes experienced by being vanguished, learned by making mistakes [Adam yenilmekle marifetli olur, yanılmakla alim].
3. Only the wearer knows where the shoe pinches [Başa gelmeyince bilinmez].
If we belive in that "the far is beautiful", we can not abstain from being a guest, a stranger or a new one. I think, making a little mistake is a justice of the guest.
Like an inexperienced blacksmith, if he (or she, you or I) sometimes hits the hammer on the horseshoe, sometimes on the nail... No problem. "All we need is love (TheBeatles?). Because love rules his/her kingdom without a sword.
