    I think they are very essential. I love comments but don't get nearly enough! I like to hear the thoughts and opinions of others, or to know that my posts are appreciated or informative.

    it should be mandatory that folks leave a comment when they visit. It's the only way you know anyone actually read anything. Electro-shock should be the punishment for non commentors.
    
    Of course, this is a two way street - and all too often I see blogs that make you jump through hoops to leave a comment.

    Definitely yes! Comments help us know what other people think, not just about what we write, but also about how other people think. I think all feedback, both positive and negative is essential to keeping an open-mind about the topics we choose to share with others.

    I like comments from people who really have an opinion to share. Whether they agree with me or not I like them just the same. The only time I don't like them is when I get spammed. Those comments irritate me

    I get motivation to write better posts and even ideas for them from some comments, and others I enjoy for their creativity. Hadn't thought about printing the good ones and saving them in a vault.

    I love comments. Sometimes I don't always agree with it but that's cool. Different strokes for different folks. Like I said in the past in this forum, the first sections I read in the newspaper are the editorial and opinion sections.

    Who wouldn't love comments?? Although I did visit a blog today that was closed to comments...which was probably better because I disagreed with their post.
    
    I love my comments...it kind of makes me sad to see how many people will visit and not comment. Oh well. In time, hopefully.
