Yes. I show my appreciation by forwarding all my spam to their blogs.
    1. Jaybetee
      do they return your affection?
    2. Friday13
Yes, by blocking my IP in their spam filters

You try to show appreciation and they go and do that.
    3. roentarre
Appreciating readers by returning comments I guess
  2. lingoslinger
I end up becoming friends with some of my readers... I have some "readers" who have been with me for 3 years or longer, and who I now consider to be friends.

So yes, I dearly appreciate my readers!

That's cool about Blog Appreciation Day, I'm gonna check out your link to learn more.
  3. SWSamurai
I reply to all comment and emails, no matter the content. That may become more difficult if my site ever takes off, but I will strive to do my best. Face it, they are why you start a blog... in spite of what some tell themselves, blogs are for others to read and to join in on.
    1. Jaybetee
I have a good friend who has a somewhat successful blog. He takes the time to reply to every email and comment he gets. He says it takes a long time, but his readers tend to stick with him and appreciate the feedback.
    2. SWSamurai
That's what it is all about. When it gets too busy, you have to perform a little message triage. Respond to the ones that seem to have the most meaning. Leave the silly ones alone... like the idiots that always have to post "FIRST!" when you have a new piece.
  4. ThriftShopRomantic
I do appreciate my readers, and I try to let them know by responding to their comments within the post, and by telling them I appreciate them on landmark times like bloggiversaries, etc.

I wouldn't be having bloggiversaries, really, without them.

    They're good folks.
  5. crpitt
Yep I think they know I appreciate them, I leave a menacing threat in my comment box warning them of my impending doom if they don't leave me a comment. That could be construed as affection, right?
    1. Jaybetee
"tough love" is the term, I think.
    2. crpitt
      They like it.. or else!

If I don't respond in comments, I get them via email, twitter, facebook or on here. I have built up some great friendships through my blog and really appreciate those people in my life. I went to stay with some of them last year and it was the nicest holiday I have had.
  6. bettieblogger
I am fairly new to blogging .. and have found the readers I have so far have been very helpful, honest and quite positive when commenting on my posts! I hope to see my readership grow with time and if I meet some new friends out of that .. all the better.

I agree. It's difficult to apply it in real life, but in blogging at least, the golden rule had been my guiding light and code of arms. And I found out that for as long as you treat your readers well, they will give back in generous amounts the respect and kindness that you give to them.
  7. timethief
Showing your readers that you value them can be done in many ways.
    (1) Write well and publish regularly. Keeping your blog updated with fresh and informative content will maintain reader interest.
    (2) Reply to every comment.
    (3) Link to your reader's related blogs and keep your blogroll updated.
    (4) Be aware of your subscribers and subscribe to the feeds on their blogs.
    (5) Comment, comment, comment and comment.
    (6) Backlink to posts published by faithful readers wherever possible.
    (7) Use a BC Recent Comments widget to showcase those readers who leave the most recent comments.
    (8) Use a Frequent Commenters widget to showcase those who leave the most comments.
    (9) Install a plugin like commentluv that reward those who leave comment by displaying the url for their most recent post.
    (10) Promote and support the promotions of the blogs of your faithful readers at every opportunity that you can and everywhere that you can.
    (11) Try to remain aware of what's happening in your reader's lives and keep on touch via twitter or email to let them know you care about them.
    (12) Send Happy Birthday and Happy Holiday wishes by twitter, shoutbox or email to your faithful readers.

    P.S. I think I feel a blog post coming on ... lol
    1. Jaybetee
      Great list.
    2. timethief
      I confess. I'm a list freak.
Toss me a concept and I can't stop making lists ...
    3. mxoso
Thanks for the lesson. I can't do all that ... it needs a lot of time that I do not have and are not able to do .. but I write for them (and for me of course!!).
    4. win2009
      wonderfull i like u timethief
  8. mylotnovice
I cannot answer, I have none
  9. tinatina
I have a small following. I always try to visit their sites and leave comments. I need to work on replying to my comments. I just started a graphic link exchange with followers whose blogs I love. I even create the graphics for them, free of charge.
    1. Jaybetee
Was just checking out your blog. Relatively new to TX huh? If you ever make it over to San Antonio, let me know and maybe the BC crew can show you around? We may even be able to provide the elusive line dancing experience, but no promises.
  10. KevinC909
Not that I have many readers, but I appreciate the readers I have more than anything.

To take time to visit YOUR site, I cordially thank each person who complimetns my blog, or subscribes.

Readers are a gift, each one of them.
    1. Jaybetee
Nice. Just checked out the all terrain board on your blog BTW. Looks awesome.
    2. KevinC909
Thanks Jay. Yeah it's awesome alright. Like I said, I'd love to try it!
  11. qelqoth
I wouldn't say I appreciate them. Sure, some of them may be able to get me cheap coke and a few have awesome breasts but when you strip all that away, you've got some lonely people who enjoy reading my rubbish.

I think they all need to get laid.
    1. aningeniousname
I can get Coke for a pound a litre but it has Arabic labels and tastes like tarmac but on the plus side I do have magnificent breasts.
  12. cookingasshole
I am surprised I have any readers at all.
I just started my blog to make my woman laugh at work.
So yeah I appreciate the validation.
    1. PetLvr
Actually .. that's an interesting mission statement .....

Were these women .. working at home? or working out of the home?
    2. cookingasshole
my lady works outside the home
      I work within
    3. alantru
      Your blog is hilarious!
    4. cookingasshole
      thanks dude
  13. MadameX
I know this is not going to be well received, but I can't even get my mind around this concept. Do I enjoy communicating with some of my readers, who comment or email? Of course. Do I appreciate it when they link to my blogs or otherwise promote them? Of course. Do I appreciate that they read my blogs? Nope. I assume that they're doing so because they are somehow interested or entertained, not as a favor to me. And if that's not the case, then there's no benefit to either of us in them being there.
    1. Anok
So you don't appreciate the fact that they are interested or entertained by what you've written?

You can have the best content in the world, and still not have any readers - I'm sure those folks would be appreciative of readers that are reading them (not out of pity).

Appreciation doesn't always have to mean groveling thanks for the unworthy praises or something....
    2. MadameX
Honestly, I don't care that much. I write because I feel like writing, and if people are interested they can read it. If not...that's fine too. I think that I don't really see it as having anything to do with me. Once in a while I write about something that I think is an important subject and then I'll make an effort to "get the word out", and I appreciate anyone who helps to get the word out...but no more than I would if it were someone else's post on the same topic that I was promoting.
    3. Anok
      Fair enough.
    4. MadameX
I've been thinking about this more since I responded to you, and I think that maybe it's a function of having made my living as a writer for so long. The vast majority of what I write, I write for hire, collect my check, and never think about again. Usually within a very short time after finishing a piece, I'm completely disconnected from it. In that context, the initial question here feels (to me) a little like going into McDonald's and asking the guy at the grill whether he appreciates people eating the hamburgers he's making.
    5. Anok
Hmmm, That's interesting...I wonder if you would have the same reaction if you wrote a syndicated column, or book series, or a playwright or screen writer though? Because stuff like that requires "followers" like you have in blogging. (Only more so).

I equate followers of blogs like fans of small restaurants...they come in because the food and service are good, and the come back because they prefer supporting local awesome restaurants, even if it's not the hottest hot spot in town.

      Small = appreciative, usually.
    6. MadameX
Actually, I've had to cultivate something like that in various jobs, but it's...part of the job. I don't know how to describe it. It's not something I get emotionally invested in. I think I'm very unusual for a writer, though, in that I have little need to be read. The only reason I started writing professionally was that if I wasn't, I had to do something else for a living, and that cut into my writing time. It's extremely rare for me to write something that I actually feel the need to share with anyone. Before there were blogs, I wrote at least as much random content as I put on my blogs now, and just tossed it in my desk drawer when I was done and moved on to the next.
    7. Anok
I think it's only half-usual I think some writers really have a need to be read, and really get into getting to know their readers/followers and others are just as detached as you are.

Now, on the flip side - I love writing, and like you have notebooks full of stuff I'll never put out there (don't need to, and never had a need to), but I still appreciate the fact that people actually read my crap I only get into promoting every now and again (and often neglect my blog), but I do still, or must have a deep desire to either be read, or get some feedback or something.
    8. MadameX
Do you think that's because of the subject matter you're writing about? Your blog is very geared toward things that you'd want to inspire people to think about, I would think, and feedback helps demonstrate that you're accomplishing that.
    9. Anok
I absolutely think that has something to do with it...

One of your blogs deals with stuff people really ought to know about, do you have any attachment to that one in the same way?
    10. MadameX
Individual posts, sometimes, but it's more about the issue. I think this too might be because I've done so much promotion professionally, usually of stuff that's not mine. "Get the word out" is a different mode and a different focus for me.
    11. ThriftShopRomantic
I've been interested in this discussion, and think I have a better understanding now of Tiffany's detachment to her writing.

I work in a job professionally writing, where it would probably do me better service to feel that sort of detachment-- since, if I've done a good job for the client, I'll never hear about it.

And for me that's where blogging has been so amazing. To see the results of working hard directly-- to directly interact with readers and observe what they enjoy, or enjoy less, and why. It's been absolutely invaluable.
    12. aningeniousname
Although I do get a kick out of people reading me I would have to agree with MadameX in the sense that once I have finished whatever it is I am working on that's it for me.
To me writing is a bodily function and I would still do it whether people read it or not, do you appreciate people looking in the toilet bowl after you have finished?
    13. ThriftShopRomantic
Well, I've written for years with no one caring-- stories for myself, to entertain me, etc.

But I do care about the things I've written, or I wouldn't have done them. I find the writing process an amazing thing sometimes-- intangible ideas that come together in tangible, surprising ways. I care about learning from it, and improving it.

I like to think it improves because I care. I don't know that I see that it has to be a negative thing. And if I've made somebody laugh or think as a result of it, I see that as a pretty decent thing, too.

      Maybe I'm just idealistic.
    14. Anok
SO I'm not supposed to take photos of my "business" and share it with everyone?

      Look! I made a poops!
  14. musampa
    No, because I have none
  15. timethief
    @MadameX
Do I appreciate that they read my blogs? Nope. I assume that they're doing so because they are somehow interested or entertained, not as a favor to me. And if that's not the case, then there's no benefit to either of us in them being there.

I'm with you on that. I hope none of my readers are just doing me a favor by reading my blogs. I hope they are reading my posts because they do find value in them.
  16. greencurmudgeon
I've gone the extra mile to try and make the blog pleasant to look at, and to ensure that my writing is as interesting and well composed as possible (which is also a matter of professional pride) - no one wants to make a clunker of a site however - is that appreciation? I tend to think so.
    1. timethief
I think so too and regret not thinking clearly enough to include " a well designed optimized theme" in my list above ... lol
    2. timethief
      @greencurmudgeon
You provoked more thoughtfulness. At the rate I'm going here I should have a blog post ready to go. Here's something else I do.

I keep my sites clean. I avoid littering my sidebars with colorful tat, animated gifs, and a legion of widgets that destroys design and distracts my readers away from my content. I don't include anything in sidebars that lacks reader value.
  17. Stillthinking
    I love my readers!

I try to visit their blogs and comment back. I have been pretty lax about updating my blog and reading lately though.

I am hoping my upcoming vacation helps me get my energy back.
  18. jacqueroxx
I love anyone who visits my blog! Even spammers...I just think "well at least they took the time and effort(?) to spam my blog"

But I mostly appreciate the people who spend the most time on my blog, even if they don't comment.
  19. RafaRR
Yes enven though I don't have a lot I just started two weeks ago.
  20. Anok
I show that I appreciate my readers, their input, and willingness to put up with my weirdness by responding to comments, and telling them.

I also occasionally do follower round ups, where I make sure to mention their names, blogs, and include links to let them know I see them, acknowledge their commitment to reading, and appreciate it.
  21. kat822
Why yes I do, and I even appreciate the people who think they are so cool to stalk my site when they claim they'd never step foot in it, well not only is your foot in it your whole ass is wankers! Kat is all knowing and thanks for the traffic
    1. timethief
I even appreciate the people who think they are so cool to stalk my site when they claim they'd never step foot in it...

Most of us bloggers have IP stats trackers on our blogs so anyone who hits on our blogs is being tracked. I read your blog and I wonder how many others who read your blog are perceived by you to be stalkers? .... you crack me ... lolmao
  22. LoopHobbies
I don't think our blog has any readers to appreciate
  23. Jeunelle
Yes I do appreciate my readers.
I try to show up to their blogs and supply comments if there is an opening somewhere for me to add one. Most of my readers I know from my discussions, my discussions seem to be a good source of readers who know me and know what I like and those are the readers I want to see back at my blog regularly and I try my best to do the same for them.
  24. niegle
    I appreciate my very reader.
  25. rajendradhakal
i think my readers are appreciates and i provide the complete services
  26. wagerwitch
I LOVE--- LOVE --- LOVE my readers.

They are the bomb - the greatest folks on earth - and they make my blog money - and friends!
  27. chrissred
Yes, I do appreciate them. I personally value their visit to my blog and when I get the chance I always return the visit and say hi. It's common courtesy in blogging to visit their blogs too, and get to know them better. And it has it's own rewards, you often get feedback and their greetings - and that is similar to a personal hug.
  28. Shiley
Yes, I do appreciate my readers. Lately, I've been so busy that visiting other blogs isn't so easy though. Alot of my readers know the situation and they just wait until life goes back to normal.
  29. theliterate
I don't get many readers, so I appreciate the few who bother to take some time to read my blog ^^
  30. dayflyer
Yes I appreciate my readers. It's always nice to feel I'm not just a lonely atom out in the universe.
  31. letter2V
Absolutely! I love receiving comments and I always reply to show my gratitude for the visit!
  32. timethief

  33. libertycast1
Yeah I try to visit theirs and comment on them as much as possible and promote them by word of mouth when a situation makes it applicable.
  34. Jaybetee
I saw there were a number of posts for the Blog Readers Appreciations Day on BloggersUnite.org from BC members. Thank to all who participated yesterday! You guys rock!
  35. Beautifulnet
its what im trying to do during being a net citizen !
  36. Biodun
I appreciate my blog readers by replying to their comments, acknowledging their participation and visiting their blogs and leaving comments there.
  37. OneMuslim
It is like having a whole big world in your neighbourhood. without them, my writings deserved to be "stored into the time capsule" for centuries and of course gets unheard and unnoticed.
  38. abstractedmikey
I do appreciate anyone who has taken the time to read my blog and comment if they see it fit.
  39. IntoTheAzureSea
I don't really keep track of my readers.
  40. Qaisar
i appriciated my reader and visitors with open arms
  41. bizmashups
I appreciate my readers, and I try to let them know by responding to their comments within the post.
  42. lagoona2099

  43. Chucklington

  44. nothingprofound
I buy each of them a lifetime pass to Yankee Stadium.
  45. LolitaV
i don't know if i have any although my visitor meter is going up. if i have them, i appreciate them and dunno what more to do than return comments and post more (pictures) to show my appreciation
  46. LadySwan
I appreciate me readers though I have to admit I need to work on replying back. I tend to be a big time procrastinator. I'll read a comment and think I'll send them a reply later. timethief-great list and it gave me some things to think about.
  47. bizmashups
@timethief could you give us a list on appreciating fellow bloggers?
  48. LuvBeauti
I appreciate my readers & I thank them fore supporting me!
  49. Epicharis
I hate my readers...I wish they'd leave me alone, the bastards!

Seriously, don't read my blog, I hate you.
  50. iyaayasmoderator
I do not know if you can call the small group of mine actual followers. When commented tho, I do reply. I write to put out general things about me. Sometimes it may even touch your life in one way or another.
  51. laptopmemo
It's normal to appreciate your readers. Like I do.
  52. boytrotters
Well, I'd appreciate my readers if I had more of them. The whole promoting your blog thing gets rather tiresome after awhile...
  53. Haste
Thats the reason I made a blog in the first place, to get my writing out there and see what people thought. It concerned me because I haven't written since i published my first book and was kind of scared, but I have gotten positive feedback throughout my blog posts.
