I'm really curious if you believe in the butterfly effect.

If you do, then what sort of impact can 1,000s of bloggers joining together on one day have on our world?

Us flowers are firm believers that small things make a big difference and with a common vision, purpose and values watch it GO!

Well .. I liked the original "The Butterfly Effect" imdb.com/title/tt0289879/ but I didn't like "The Butterfly Effect 2" imdb.com/title/tt0457297/

Personally, I think it's just make believe ..

You put it the right way when you ask: "believe in the butterfly effect".
I consider the physically butterfly effect (chaos theory) more as a matter of belief, like believing that when someone is coughing in place A, a skyscraper in place B will explode.

In the social sphere each and every person has (can have) a great impact on others. And when just a few hundred bloggers will join together ... this will bring a lasting CHAIN REACTION and also being a sample to other communities. Love and kindness beget love and kindness, hate etc. produce hate etc.

I would not consider this to be a 'butterfly effect', even when it sounds so nice (cute butterflys).

I don't personally believe in the butterfly effect, but I do think that bloggers uniting on one day can have an impact (even if they don't all sneeze at the same time ).

I think in terms of ripples, Tony, but I think it's the same thing. Even ONE blog post about the right thing at the right time has unknown effects. How often have all of us received a comment or an email that says, "This is exactly what I needed to read at this moment. Now I'm going to..." We all know that not everyone comments, so for every person who says that, surely there are others who are affected and don't say so...and then whatever it is that they're inspired to go out and do themselves sets off its own ripples...

Tiffany, thinking in terms of ripples definitely makes it easier to understand how each of our actions has a larger and longer term impact.

The butterfly effect seems to make the process almost magical when it isn't. Ripples are easier to visualize.

Title disappointed me a lot. I though it was a scientific discussion about 'Butterfly effect', but to my dismay its about marketing.

By the way, If anybody wants package of butterfly effect (one that is being sold online) can contact me. I have it (Of course I will give you free of cost).

onlineMoney, please explain the Butterfly Effect. This thread has more to do with the impact of doing good deeds on humanity then it does about marketing.

melbs... seeing what happens is the fun part.

There is another thread talking about confessions. I have another one. Bloggers Unite is the part of BlogCatalog that Im most passionate about.

It's where I get my peace.

I can tell your passionate about it, it is good to use the force for good

Somehow, we might have guessed that, Tony. The really cool thing about it is that even as it gets stolen and used to compete with you, it's still accomplishing its intended purpose. It literally can't go wrong--it's just a matter of degree of success.

I think watching Star Wars just now has affected me

Tiffany, exactly. It's cool to see other people doing the same thing. It means we have made a difference. Probably makes sense to unite with them and do something that truly unites. The way it is now feels fragmented.
    1. crpitt
Do you mean that there are copies of the bloggers unite thingie?
    2. TonyB
There are a few other initiatives to unite bloggerrs.

I think BlogCatalog members were the first to join together and blog about a social need on a specific day. Since the first Bloggers Unite day, another group has started Bloggers Action Day, which was last month and there is another initiative to raise money for DonorsChoose.org

I found a site that could be of use to the bloggers unite project, its called www.pledgebank.com 'I’ll do it, but only if you’ll help' - maybe everyone that's getting involved on the 17th could sign up to a pledge to take action/blog it? (could inspire more participation?) or possibly we could all pledge to contribute to a group act of kindness, if someone can come up with a good idea?

Lots of little things can certainly add up. Blogging is becoming more and more mainstream as time goes by.
