I was watching this video clip of the BBC show “Outnumbered”, and was surprised when the mother said, "Most Christians don't believe Satan really exists."

Do you think she's right, or do you think pop culture got it wrong again?

Well, Agit8r, I've only sent Obama requests to confirm whether or not the "black sterotype" is true www.offendedblogger.com/2008/11/obama-put-out-or-pay-up-dammit.html (he has yet to send proof). I've yet to ask God himself if he is circumcised, but now that you mention it I am rather curious...

Does satan exist not sure? Is there good and bad then yes. A great clip from the programme kid being taught about Satan during a Maths lesson very funny at so many levels.

Only in the Government behind the Governments, apart from that it was the best control tool ever invented by the Christian power mongers
No offence to Jesus or the Christian people -

There are my reasons: if you read carefully in the Bible you can find a lot of mismatches, I have an impression that this book was written by request in order to control the masses.
In the universe there are many planets and it is not possible that a one creature (so called God) would control all these ) Processes taking place in the universe are controlled by certain laws, but they have no any relationship to God.
The miracles don`t exist too. What we call miracles are in fact the processes occurring with matters that are unknown to official science... -
Naturally I do not believe in Satan, because I do not believe in God. They both invented in order that would scare people and control them in selfish interests. Notions of good and evil are relative, it would be foolish to divide events into good and bad, it`s all relative... Absolute evil, as shown in films does not exist too. Who ever seen Satan? Who invited him to a visit? I think no... But book that refers to Satan in the form of absolute evil, I can write too... and with the help of this books to fool all people... )))

I understand your comments about God/Satan being made up to scare people, Balor. These beliefs are pretty widely held by people who don't believe in any God. Moral relativity (your idea that there is no absolute good and evil) is also widely believed by the non-religious and is pushed by pop culture. Our current ugly world has come from moral relativism.
-
look around, look at yourself, there is no absolutely bad or absolutely good people and hence there is no absolute evil or good. As told by Plato "know thyself and thou shalt know the whole world" And notions of good and evil itself is very vague and unclear. Can you give me a definition of what is good? and for whom this is good and for whom evil? I think no...
-
I CAN give you an idea of what is good and evil. I actually have a whole book that describes good and evil. Here's a starter for you, from the Bible. Evil: envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions, intemperance, gossip, adultery, fornication. Good: love, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control.
I do not believe a wholly good or evil person can exist. I believe we are all made in God's image yet sin by following our own will, so we are all a mixture of good and evil. I do believe that God is wholly good and Satan is wholly evil, though.

I say in order to settle this argument we need an official poll.
I shall join a dozen or more Christian forums and ask them if they believe in Satan and I'll come back here and deliver the results.
It will give me the opportunity to link-drop for my blog as well.

The results of my official polling are in:
86% of Christians do not believe that Satan is a pitchfork-wielding madman who will torture sinners in hell
HOWEVER
83% of them believe they will be raptured (sucked up) into heaven just before Satan shows up as Antichrist to torture sinners here on earth
What does this all mean?
I dunno, but I may have to rethink my relationship with Jesus. -

It is one to believe something exists, yet it is another to believe in something and follow it to a hot place.

Maybe there is a Satan, maybe there isn’t. How to prove it? I have a suggestion for a way to test the Satan theory. Attempt to get possessed by devils, like in the Exorcist movie. There are methods for accomplishing this. Then wait and see if we become possessed by demons. The result may not be dramatic like in the movies, but we’d know on a personal level. I’d suggest this test is not altogether wise, but for those who are curious, why not?

As a Muslim I believe in Satan ,in Quran it mentioned Adam and Eve peace be up on them used to live in heave then Satan convinced them to eat from the forbidon Tree , and because of that humans are living on earth since then and they will only see it at the day of judgement when God give us his mersy. So satan got us out of heaven in the first place and with God welling we will be back in it .

Satan is the direct creation of man so man had an excuse to explain the stupidity of his/her behavior. It is really that simple. Therefore, mankind should just drop this delusion and move onto what really matters, how do we as a species learn to coexist without harming each other.

I think that a majority of Christians do not believe in Satan in the traditional biblical view, just as the same with God. However I could be wrong on this. I haven't really done a research poll that would suggest one way over another. Yes there are denominations that believe in God and Satan as told from the Bible however there are others who do not and simply utilize the Bible as a source of moral guidance not spiritual enlightenment.

You're right, Rene, there are many types of Christians, and we may not be able to characterize all of them by one particular belief. You did give me an idea to see if any real research has been done about this - obviously questioning people on blogcatalog has brought out the silliness in some people rather than an actual discussion. Thanks for seriously answering my question!

Satan exists. He just has really bad PR people. The whole thing about human sacrifices and all of those little girls he's possessed in Mexico, has been blown way out of proportion. Sure, it's happened once or twice. But Satan is also responsible for lawyers, insurance companies, the nation of Belgium, Hormel: the makers of Spam, etc.

Satan lives across the street from me. He uses his freaking lawn blower every day and it's loud as hell.
-
I'm a Catholic, so some self-described Christians won't think I'm a Christian - but, yes, I think Satan / the adversary exists.
I also think Washington, D.C., and the Lourvre exist, although I haven't seen either: and would have a tough time proving that either were real, to a sufficiently skeptical person.-
About pop culture: I actually (slightly) prefer this take on Satan to the 'he's really a nice guy, once you get to know him' approach of about a half-century ago.
On the other hand, 'Satan as a courteous chap' resulted in a few entertaining movies. Not memorable, though: I can't remember a single title.

Satan do exist in this world. They have their mission instead..whatever their mission is,its clearly lead to the dark side!
-
I am a christian and believe that Satan does exist. But I believe that he was defeated by the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are more than conquerers. Yes Satan has power but because if you accepted Jesus Christ as Lord, "Greater is He(Jesus) that is in you than he(satan) that is in the world.
