I was watching this video clip of the BBC show “Outnumbered”, and was surprised when the mother said, "Most Christians don't believe Satan really exists."

Do you think she's right, or do you think pop culture got it wrong again?

Don't listen to her, she works for Satan.
    1. angelawd
      Pardon me?
    2. offendedblogger
Not you, the woman on the show!
    3. angelawd
OH! I was thinking you were offended.
    4. offendedblogger
Well a bit, but only at the agent of the devil spreading lies.

I fully believe that all sinners will fry like bacon for eternity, being poked at by a fork-tailed, pitchfork wielding madman.

At least I hope so... otherwise my ministry is in vain.
    5. Agit8r
      hahahahhah!
    6. angelawd
I'm a sinner too, but I'm fully relying on Jesus.

Actually, I hope there's bacon in Heaven.
    7. Agit8r
      like actual pork-bellies, or sizzled-sinner-slices? o_0
    8. offendedblogger
I hope there is pork in heaven, too!! And all of the other "unclean animals".

      Especially Till Lindemann:

      Rawr.

    9. angelawd
I haven't actually tasted sizzled sinner slices, so I'll go with pork bellies. I'm assuming no one ever has high cholesterol in Heaven.
    10. Agit8r
good point Offendedblogger. Isn't "God" Jewish?
    11. angelawd
Um, no, Agit8r, He'd be the creator of the Jewish people.
    12. offendedblogger
Well, Agit8r, I've only sent Obama requests to confirm whether or not the "black sterotype" is true www.offendedblogger.com/2008/11/obama-put-out-or-pay-up-dammit.html (he has yet to send proof). I've yet to ask God himself if he is circumcised, but now that you mention it I am rather curious...
    13. Agit8r
but he is a Jewish deity... no?
    14. angelawd
He's the deity of the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim people.
    15. Agit8r
so... no pork bellies in heaven? (being neither Kosher nor Halal)

@Offendedblogger; does that make you a "Junker"?
    16. angelawd
Thank goodness we Christians will show up and bring the hogs.
    17. offendedblogger
Christians eat pickled pig's feet. Blech.
    18. Agit8r
      @Angelawd; that's bound to start a fight...
    19. angelawd
I thought pickled pigs feet was a Southern thing, not a Christian thing. Am I stereotyping?
    20. offendedblogger
@Agit8r Only if you are a pig and some weirdo wants to eat your feet!

They do stand in mud (and worse) all day. Blech again.
    21. Agit8r
Oh gawd! Now OB will make you "prove it"

@OB are you talking about my "fight" comment, or my "junker" comment?
    22. offendedblogger
@Angelawd Well I didn't say ALL Christians ate them. That would be stereotyping fo' sho'.
    23. angelawd
blatant stereotyping, OB. Just like southerners, I'm sure!

Christians eat lobster and crab, too. We definitely reap the benefits of an enlightened religion.
    24. Agit8r
just because Paul had that "revelation" about it
    25. angelawd
It was actually Peter, but he helped us all. Yum.
    26. offendedblogger
I fail as a Christian. I don't like seafood. I don't like figs or olives, either. Hmmmm.
  2. nothingprofound
It's Satan's birthday today and from what I understand he's recovering from a hangover.
    1. angelawd
LOL, I'll take that as a yes.
    2. dbowles1017
      Hangover smangover
  3. crpitt
Outnumbered as in the comedy show?
    1. angelawd
Yes, the BBC one. There's usually some hilarious clip of kids being much more prepared than adults for a theological discussion...this was one that raised questions for me.
    2. crpitt
I am surprised that you are surprised that a comedy show would say something like that.
    3. angelawd
Really? But you don't even know me - or do you?
    4. crpitt
Nope I don't you, but in comparison to other British comedy shows that is rather a mild statement. Normally the child would be compared to Satan, rather than his existence been brought in to question, usually
    5. angelawd
I think I've met some children who helped me believe in the concept of Satan!
  4. yourhypnotist
Does satan exist not sure? Is there good and bad then yes. A great clip from the programme kid being taught about Satan during a Maths lesson very funny at so many levels.
    1. angelawd
Yes, I feel sorry for the teacher!

So if you believe there is good and bad, where do you think it comes from?
    2. yourhypnotist
I don't think it comes from anywhere. I choose a behaviour which I believe to be good or bad and someone perceives that behaviour to be good or bad.
    3. angelawd
Did you learn good from bad, then, or were you born knowing the difference?
    4. angelawd
Darn, I seem to have lost the one serious responder.
    5. yourhypnotist
I think you learn good and bad based on your experiences.
    6. angelawd
I'm not sure I understand. Can you elaborate?
    7. yourhypnotist
I don't think you're born with the knowledge of good and bad. This is something you learn from experience and influences (like parents, religion and friends).
    8. angelawd
So it's possible your ideas of good and bad could have come from God and Satan?
    9. yourhypnotist
      It's possible if they exist?
  5. kat822
Hellz yes! I blame him for all the stupid sh*t I do
    1. offendedblogger
Repent now and ye shall be saved!

Until you sin again, then you gotta "go back Jack, and dooo it again".
    2. kat822
well i am of the notion I gotta do that just once, but the repenting hell I could repent 24 hours a day, it's exhausting !
  6. acousticguitarist
Only in the Government behind the Governments, apart from that it was the best control tool ever invented by the Christian power mongers

No offence to Jesus or the Christian people
    1. offendedblogger
Heh. You are lucky Jesus doesn't understand written English.
    2. angelawd
I do appreciate you making a distinction between Christian power mongers and Christian people.
    3. DailyBeerReview
      good one, OB
  7. nothingprofound
Satan's been enlightened; he became a Buddhist. He no longer seeks souls, just nirvana.
    1. offendedblogger
My Ouija board has just confirmed this as fact.
    2. angelawd
Is that on the same block as Heaven?
    3. offendedblogger
      Isn't Nirvana from Seattle?
    4. Agit8r
      Aberdeen, originally...
    5. offendedblogger
Aberdeen, that explains it. Aberdeen sucks!
    6. Agit8r
This is true. That is why John Elway left
    1. angelawd
Yep you believe in whatever I say?
    2. DailyBeerReview
      I could be persuaded
    3. angelawd
Wellll...haven't heard that in a while!
  8. balor
there is neither God nor Satan... for the curious people i can explain why...
    1. angelawd
Sure, I'd love to hear your reasons for what you believe, Balor!
    2. balor
There are my reasons: if you read carefully in the Bible you can find a lot of mismatches, I have an impression that this book was written by request in order to control the masses.

In the universe there are many planets and it is not possible that a one creature (so called God) would control all these ) Processes taking place in the universe are controlled by certain laws, but they have no any relationship to God.

The miracles don`t exist too. What we call miracles are in fact the processes occurring with matters that are unknown to official science...
    3. angelawd
Balor, are you not able to imagine a supreme being that could create/control multiple planets?

I'm also curious to hear how you could explain your beliefs about a supreme evil like satan.
    4. balor
Naturally I do not believe in Satan, because I do not believe in God. They both invented in order that would scare people and control them in selfish interests. Notions of good and evil are relative, it would be foolish to divide events into good and bad, it`s all relative... Absolute evil, as shown in films does not exist too. Who ever seen Satan? Who invited him to a visit? I think no... But book that refers to Satan in the form of absolute evil, I can write too... and with the help of this books to fool all people... )))
    5. angelawd
I understand your comments about God/Satan being made up to scare people, Balor. These beliefs are pretty widely held by people who don't believe in any God. Moral relativity (your idea that there is no absolute good and evil) is also widely believed by the non-religious and is pushed by pop culture. Our current ugly world has come from moral relativism.
    6. balor
look around, look at yourself, there is no absolutely bad or absolutely good people and hence there is no absolute evil or good. As told by Plato "know thyself and thou shalt know the whole world" And notions of good and evil itself is very vague and unclear. Can you give me a definition of what is good? and for whom this is good and for whom evil? I think no...
    7. angelawd
I CAN give you an idea of what is good and evil. I actually have a whole book that describes good and evil. Here's a starter for you, from the Bible. Evil: envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions, intemperance, gossip, adultery, fornication. Good: love, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control.

I do not believe a wholly good or evil person can exist. I believe we are all made in God's image yet sin by following our own will, so we are all a mixture of good and evil. I do believe that God is wholly good and Satan is wholly evil, though.
  9. offendedblogger
I say in order to settle this argument we need an official poll.

I shall join a dozen or more Christian forums and ask them if they believe in Satan and I'll come back here and deliver the results.

It will give me the opportunity to link-drop for my blog as well.
    1. angelawd
Thanks, OB! I appreciate your participation.

I'll be floating the bathtub waiting for your results.

    Insanity i Say
  11. crazyTsu
yes, otherwise this thread should/would have died barren
    1. angelawd
So glad you weighed in, crazy! You definitely have shown proof that Satan exists.
  12. offendedblogger
The results of my official polling are in:

86% of Christians do not believe that Satan is a pitchfork-wielding madman who will torture sinners in hell

    HOWEVER

83% of them believe they will be raptured (sucked up) into heaven just before Satan shows up as Antichrist to torture sinners here on earth

    What does this all mean?

I dunno, but I may have to rethink my relationship with Jesus.
    1. crazyTsu
Hey I thought you are becoming a jew?
    2. offendedblogger
Hmm, good point. I better go poll the Jewish community on their stance about Satan, the rapture, etarnal torture, etc.!
  13. FredSr2009
Sure, in the mind if one believes it strong enough.
  14. cec235
Evil exists. Just read the news.
  15. iratedog
Of course Satan doesn't exist. It's a story to keep little kids, and apparently adults too, in line.

"Do this or you'll spend eternity in damnation" - are you kidding me? I can't get my head round anyone who ACTUALLY buys that...
  16. ParthaPratimRoy
yes, it is in Human Mind.....
    1. angelawd
Are you saying that the Islamic Ghost/Jin is the same as Satan/Beelzebub/Lucifer?
    2. crpitt
He/she/whatever probably doesn't care at all and just wants to link drop.
  17. dbowles1017
    Satan is one rad dude
  18. hatingtherain
I don't believe Satan exists. But I don't believe God exists either.
  19. amysteryartist
    God exist, Satan exist
  20. drjalee52
It is one to believe something exists, yet it is another to believe in something and follow it to a hot place.
    1. angelawd
      Agreed.
  21. davedol
Maybe there is a Satan, maybe there isn’t. How to prove it? I have a suggestion for a way to test the Satan theory. Attempt to get possessed by devils, like in the Exorcist movie. There are methods for accomplishing this. Then wait and see if we become possessed by demons. The result may not be dramatic like in the movies, but we’d know on a personal level. I’d suggest this test is not altogether wise, but for those who are curious, why not?
    1. angelawd
Let me know how it goes for you.
  22. jeremyjanson
I'm not sure it really matters. One way or another, there is evil in this world and we need redemption from it, we need to save our hearts and our souls from the all-consuming blackness.
  23. indianasim
Satan exists in the form of a man like you or me.
    1. angelawd
Are you saying Satan is an actual man? Or just has the body of a man? How do you know?
  24. sorcerer
yes... they are, I think they are the aliens!
  25. jjloch
Yup, I believe that Satan exists. He's busy as a bee.

    JJ
  26. edwardgroberts
If Satan does exist, is he the one stealing tripods from every movie and television camera crew?

Whether he exists or not, it sure is freeing to claim, "Satan made me do it," isn't it?
  27. samall
As a Muslim I believe in Satan ,in Quran it mentioned Adam and Eve peace be up on them used to live in heave then Satan convinced them to eat from the forbidon Tree , and because of that humans are living on earth since then and they will only see it at the day of judgement when God give us his mersy. So satan got us out of heaven in the first place and with God welling we will be back in it .
    1. angelawd
If you'll read it closely, you'll see that Adam and Eve made a decision that led to being removed from the Garden of Eden. Yes, Satan enticed them, but they made their own decisions.
  28. thenanotech
    Yes i do.....
  29. pices2004
    Satan exist
  30. ReneMonroe
Satan is the direct creation of man so man had an excuse to explain the stupidity of his/her behavior. It is really that simple. Therefore, mankind should just drop this delusion and move onto what really matters, how do we as a species learn to coexist without harming each other.
    1. angelawd
So, back to the question, Rene: do you think most Christians don't believe Satan exists?
    2. ReneMonroe
I think that a majority of Christians do not believe in Satan in the traditional biblical view, just as the same with God. However I could be wrong on this. I haven't really done a research poll that would suggest one way over another. Yes there are denominations that believe in God and Satan as told from the Bible however there are others who do not and simply utilize the Bible as a source of moral guidance not spiritual enlightenment.
    3. angelawd
You're right, Rene, there are many types of Christians, and we may not be able to characterize all of them by one particular belief. You did give me an idea to see if any real research has been done about this - obviously questioning people on blogcatalog has brought out the silliness in some people rather than an actual discussion. Thanks for seriously answering my question!
  31. Friday13
    He's making a list,
    checking it twice ...

    Oh, wait. That's Santa.
  32. Serbaunt
Satan exists. He just has really bad PR people. The whole thing about human sacrifices and all of those little girls he's possessed in Mexico, has been blown way out of proportion. Sure, it's happened once or twice. But Satan is also responsible for lawyers, insurance companies, the nation of Belgium, Hormel: the makers of Spam, etc.
  33. morgantj
    I don't believe Satan exist.
  34. FatX
Satan lives across the street from me. He uses his freaking lawn blower every day and it's loud as hell.
    1. jeremyjanson
And let me guess: he lied to you about where he disposes of the leaves?
  35. Norski
    I'm a Catholic, so some self-described Christians won't think I'm a Christian - but, yes, I think Satan / the adversary exists.

I also think Washington, D.C., and the Lourvre exist, although I haven't seen either: and would have a tough time proving that either were real, to a sufficiently skeptical person.
    1. Norski
About pop culture: I actually (slightly) prefer this take on Satan to the 'he's really a nice guy, once you get to know him' approach of about a half-century ago.

On the other hand, 'Satan as a courteous chap' resulted in a few entertaining movies. Not memorable, though: I can't remember a single title.
    2. angelawd
Interesting perspective. All of those approaches lull us into thinking evil is not really evil...but you're right, it's easier to say he doesn't exist at all than to say he's a nice guy and just misunderstood (perhaps he had a bad childhood?).
  36. fazrul
Satan do exist in this world. They have their mission instead..whatever their mission is,its clearly lead to the dark side!
    1. offendedblogger
So Satan has a multiple personality disorder?
  37. TheCrazyhorse
Yes but he is afraid of me! I am hunting him to crush him underneath my feet!
  38. cuteptaguy
Yes, at this stage leaning towards him either being my boss or the tax man!
  39. chosen1
I am a christian and believe that Satan does exist. But I believe that he was defeated by the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are more than conquerers. Yes Satan has power but because if you accepted Jesus Christ as Lord, "Greater is He(Jesus) that is in you than he(satan) that is in the world.
  40. moooooog35
Yes..unless the whole "Rachael Ray" thing is done with puppetry.
    1. offendedblogger
      Leave Rachel alone!

      SHE IS AN ANGEL.
  41. balor
Satan doesn`t exist. It is an imaginary person and as most of the Bible is imaginary too.
