I was just wondering, everything is blog this and blog that. But, do you have sites that you have been feeding off of or just decide to blog?

No since I don't know how to set up a website! Blogger made it all easy for me. I still have to learn some HTML coding. But it is really simple.

I have a website but on my domain but have no use for it yet. When I need it I'll just use my blog as an external link on it. Right now I just use my Blog www.zm0ney.com

The decision to start blogging was through friends who want to share what you are up to. It's fun!
  4. djumbox
Yup, I run a few sites for years. I started to blog just recently.

I can't say for other people, but I am a copywriter by profession and I write for our company's blog and website. I really enjoy it because I love blogging and writing in general, so it is more fun than work every day.

These days though, blogging is more popular than websites.

I want just wondering who was looking for a quick $ in their pockets.
Blogs will not let that happen, websites will not let that happen, forums will not let that happen, your hard work will.
Please keep that in mind, I busted my butt to get to a stinking 1/4 million visitors each year and people think they will be top on diggs.
Lots of work and lots of begging for help will get you there
I am talking about us average users. Not those with big buck backing.

I have a website, a forum, and a safelist. The website has lots of free, high quality software, E-books and reports. Everything on it is free. The forum is for placing ads. The members exchange ideas for blogging, how to get higher search engine rankings and general chats. You can advertise your blogs, websites or programs. Since I don't make any money off of them I use freewebs and a free forum. If you want to check them out to see what software, e-books or whatever go here its-all-4-free.net.tc
    The forum is at ads4free.freeforums.org

I have many many websites. My blog is the only personal site I have. I'm a web designer though so I'm sure I'm not the norm.
  9. PetLvr
I have a few websites myself, and recently I converted my 'business' site into a wordpress blog - but, I don't really post anything in there and just consider it my 'business card' site.
  10. ichaduma
    I have a WordPress-powered website
  11. StephanMiller
Yes, too many to remember off the top of my head. Some do nothing but sit vacant, but you never know. I'd say I have about 10 that have content, 5 that have blogs, but right now I am only really active on two. Two of my sites rely solely on user generated content to grow. That's the kind I like.

I have a site where I do my reading
    angelpsychicblessings.com
I keep it separate from my blog because I do not want my blog to be about promoting me but promoting growth and learning

    soulseeds.angelpsychicblessings.com
  15. RecycleCindy
I agree with ichaduma that my blog is my website. I own my domain name and run it on Hostgator using Wordpress.

Yes, I have both a blog and a website. I use the site for more general, static information and my blog is more like a work journal. They're both hosted on the same domain.
    My website: www.israeldoula.com
    My blog: www.israeldoula.com/blog.html

Like Nate, I'm also a web designer and have sites all over the place! My blog is just an outlet for one of my hobbies.
  18. CreativityMan
I have my blog in a subdirectory, but it's the only part of my website that I've developed thus far. I'm in the process of learning to use Joomla to build my site and one I'm creating with some friends.

Blogs aren't websites? Uh-oh, now what am I going to do?

A blog is a blog is a blog, of course they are a form of a web site, same as a forum.
But, still different concept than a standard website.
So, what should you do now? build a website, have fun working with it.
Learning new methods of design, I just started blogging a little over a week ago, using free stuff to play with but will add blogs to my websites once I know the system better. Just another learning curve for me. And asked this question to see who else was into learning.
    1. acousticguitarist
      good luck with it

I guess the thing about it is this technology is in constant motion.

They are a diffeent concept, totally agree. I guess the difference being that they are more interactive , and in the past a person had to have high level skills to get going what people do in a half an hour.

What has drawn me to blogs is the fact that there are people with low level IT skills making much more money from the web than IT people do.

the best solution is a site with a blog 'front end' ...lomg conversation this one
    2. DaneMorgan
Actually, I maintain several "websites" that do not appear to be blogs using blog software (WordPress).

Over the last few years it has become increasingly more difficult to fond a website idea that WordPress isn't simply an excellent platform for running.
  21. Robbay
Hi...I had a website before a blog. My website is the home of my online work...it where I hopefully will sell cartoons and other kinds of stuff.. I thought most do have websites.

    Hi

The websites came first and then the Blog as part of our SEO attempts for Fabulous Photo Gifts.

    www.fabulousphotogifts.co.uk - personalised photo gifts
www.purple13.co.uk - award winning digital photo art by Mandy Collins (my partner)
www.abstract-art-prints.co.uk - An attempt at a different kind of site for Purple13
www.mandycollins.co.uk - a directory of Mandy Collins' idea.

I've done all the design work and web building myself - a friend helped with the online shopping setup - invaluable!

I used to have a gaming website, but I have moved away from gaming ever since I started blogging. I do a couple websites though: 1 for my uncle's business, and another for Dreamhost webhosting promo codes. Check it out:

    www.dreamhost-promo-codes.slyvisions.com/
  33. olgatravelingbra
I started out with a website
    olgathetravelingbra.com
It contains the story/photos about how I became a Traveling Bra, along some other fun stuff, and leaves off at the point of my amazing transformation.

The blog picks up where the website leaves off & follows along with all of my exciting globetrotting adventures since becoming a Traveling Bra
    olgathetravelingbra.blogspot.com

I had no prior experience with websites or blogging until this, so it has been a FUN (albeit time consuming) learning experience! It's safe to say that now I'M HOOKED!
  34. MiLan
Is there any difference between blog and website?????
    1. olgatravelingbra
I think a blog is more frequently updated? At least for me it is.
  35. Rozie818
A blog is a form of a website, but it's called a blog because it wanted an identity. Any web page is a form of a website, but bloggers and website owners approach their craft differently. How many people have opened a blank page and created a blog? How many created a website?
All I was asking was to see the work done by people who do have a website.
    is
    flowersinmotionny.com
    a blog?
    The function is different.
Nothing personal, just asking to see if anyone here had a website besides a blogging website. LOL, some people just like to go out of their way and make things more than they are.
  36. igotanswers
A blog is a website yes but the blog can contain everyday stuff, it is more direct to the reader. Also the website contains stuff that the blog can't have.
  37. awannabe
I've had fan sites for a tv show in the past. I currently have a genealogy site which I am thinking about moving to a blog. The family tree goes back to 1490. I also have a myspace page.
  38. kab625
I think of a website as having an actual domain that you own. My blog is a part of my website, with my own domain and a store.
  39. MadameX
I actually had a website before I had any blogs, but it's been offline for a couple of years. I still own the domain and a couple of others and have been toying with putting one or more back up, but thus far I just haven't had time.
  40. cammeel1
I use Freewebs. It is easy to use for someone like me who is so new to creating their own website.
  41. InvisibleKnight
I have my own website, coded myself. One of these days I will get back to working on it and fix some of the problems I have there. Before I do that though I am concentrating on my forth coming wedding. Anyway if you wish to visit and peruse my site, the address is. www.tearsofangels.co.uk
  42. crkian
Ive got blogsrecord.com and gottoread.com and another Im working on but its early stages
  43. Rozie818
Nice layout Invisible Knight, coding is important, with all the free templates out their, people are getting lazy and staying up with the code that does all the work.
  44. nusuni
My blog is also a website.

    www.nusuni.com
  45. Rozie818
crkian, those are blogs, nice ones but blogs

    These are my websites
    swishit.com
    flowersinmotionny.com
    cellphonetherapy.com
    voguetemplates.com
    cafebouquet.com
    mamboinmotion.com

    These are my blogs
    swishit.blopspot.com
    newsmaze.blopspot.com
    jaxfalcone.blopspot.com
    dogbedog.blopspot.com

    see the difference between them?
I don't mean that one's on blogspot either
all of my blogs will be self domained when I decide which ones I want to stay on top of.
    1. crkian
I beg to differ they are certainly not blogs, if you think they are then blogcatalog must be a blog
  46. lambora29
    No i don't have any...i just blog on totaheri.blogspot.com
  47. Rozie818
Let me explain myself better maybe, I am not putting either form of design above another, It's like having a Flash Website or a HTML Commerce website, it's all a personal matter. With a blog, every time to enter something your content moves, a website for the most part stays the same, unless your me and constantly updating or changing them. So I know everyone blogs, I was wondering if any of you maintain a standard website. That's all, you can a website and a blog incorporated with it, same design through out, but the site is the steady content and the blog would be like a add on. Or you could have a blog, that would have no main content because the idea of the blog (journal) is to keep it updated constantly.
  48. dotartdude
I have one that connects my blogs, channels, pages all together in one place. Folks keep asking for a website address.

This is created with Google Page Creator which is still in beta - under Google Labs. It is FREE. Templates are OK. You can use it in page layout mode or switch to html mode.

    dotartdude.googlepages.com/home

If you don't already use a Google software product, you set up a g-mail account first. It is also free.

  51. varniticula
Yeah I have an illustration website: www.jmvillustrations.com
  52. aqualightphoto
Yesterday I just posted something about this, Check it out: www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/website-vs-weblog

I am trying to develop a website w/ blog & forum, and eventually an e-shop.

So far its still in a "growing and learning" stage.
  53. svajdlenka
For me blogs are only parts of website itself. Is is a good combination, website I use for static content and for news I use blogs. It is a good combination because it is more easier to write post in a blog, than write static content into website for me.
  54. Rozie818
You can have a blog, a forum, a photo galley etc incorporated into a website and each serves it's own purpose. Some people will only use a forum, so it is a forum, and so on. Still a website per say, but a forum. As you said the static website serves it's purpose, maybe as business introduction or a
e commerce site. Some people only blog, or only post a photo gallery for their work. I change my sites so often that they always fell like a blog to me lol.
  55. ModelElaine
    I have three websites.
  56. nazcar
my website is integrated with my blog..
    its nazcarpine.com

    and owned some fan-based sites
  57. DeanMasters
i have several websites & several blogs
  58. carsonfb
I have a music review site that accompanies my music discussions blog (or vice-versa, not sure which ). Just strip "/blog" off of my blog's address and you'll get to the site for those who are interested. Or there's a link on the blog to take you there.

I also have another site, but I haven't touched it in nearly 6 months, so it probably doesn't count.
