How many of you are dancers? Not professional necessarily, just when you go to bars, parties, weddings, etc. are you a dancer or do you just hang on the sidelines?
If you don't dance is it because yu feel like you;re not a good dancer. Are there any people who know they're bad dancers, but do it anyway. I know I'm pretty bad, but pretty much embrace it and have fun anyway.
I'm just asking because I feel like everyone likes to dance but a lot of people don't because they feel uncomfortable. What do you think?

I used to be a professional dancer.
I am a very good dancer, if I do say so myself. Belly dancing (authentic Egyptian bellydancing) is my forte but I am a good dancer all the way around. I started taking dance lessons when I was only 4 years old and continued with them until I was in my early 20's. However, my tap dancing skills are not that great, I admit!
I don't dance professionally any more but I do dance for my husband on special occasions! -
oh Jay,I love to DANCE!!! Don't know if you guys know or not,but my hubby left me a couple of weekends ago. He took my debit card and my truck. Thank the lord my girls were at my mother's.....
Anyways back to the point. I was kinda distraught,so my cuz tash who is staying with me at the moment, ended up talking me into going out to dance.
Well I went, but not to meet anyone, strictly for DANCING! The place we went to had GO GO dancers and everything. The only problem was,NOBODY would get on the dance floor, the Go Go's were doing their same little move over and over again.
Guess what,uh huh u guessed it. Yours truely was the first on the dance floor and about after 5 minutes I talked the snobs, the cutey's who can't dance and even DJ crumb.. to come out there with me and shake their money makers...It was SOOOOOOO much fun and I was also the last person on the dance floor. Dancing and Singing are a release for me,and I just might go back... -
I definitely have to be in the mood, but when i am I love it. As I noted, I know I am a bad dancer, but I don't care as I'm not the one who has to watch!

Exactly Theresa. I tend to agree with that song....
"Dance, dance where ever you may be....."
Look, Holly used dancing to release something negative that has happened.
And DBowles - when you respond to anything life throws at you, it is a kind of a dance!
Melinda hope more people could enjoy your dancing. Have you ever thought of passing your dancing skills to the younger generation??
Dancing is also spiritual. We are all dancing to the Music of Life.

I grew up dancing. I would dance with my father or grandfather because none of their spouses like to dance. My grandpa taught me to tango and my father to waltz. And a few years ago, I had a friend from Argentina who taught me to dance salsa. And I love modern grooves too. So I can say, I am pretty good and have rhythym. It's great for the body and the soul!

I used to be one of the best club dancers in NYC. I can still shake it up pretty good. The gymnastics came in handy.

I dance at parties, but I have literally no talent in dancing whatsoever. It's great fun.
I am, however, learning to rave.-
No, not at all. There's more to it than flailing around to techno/trance music, and I'm screwed up enough without drugs.
To answer your first question, yes and no. IMO, you need to learn one or two basic techniques, then just wing it. Nobody's going to be overly focused on you, so just have fun and don't worry if you make a mistake.

I love dancing and I usually put on some music and move the rhythm every day. Once the music starts I get up and move to the rhythm until I drop. Luckily I live in a great community where no matter what your age is no one judges you -- we just move to the music and have a great time. Setting aside steps and moves, what dancing really amounts to is simply moving your body to a rhythm. I never hang out on the sidelines at parties or community dances, and I certainly don't dance only with my husband. I dance with any one who wants to dance, regardless of their age or gender and I'm not inhibited I also dance alone.
I'm just asking because I feel like everyone likes to dance but a lot of people don't because they feel uncomfortable. What do you think?
I think you're right and it makes me sad when I notice that some people are just too inhibited to get up and move to the music.
Now as for being any good ... hmmm ... I can name many others among my friends and family, who dance better than I do. I have taken lessons in several forms of conventional dance and I've also been into belly dancing. My husband loves it when I surprise him from time to time with a private show.

Speaking of dancing, here is one of the most powerful dancers I have ever seen.
It was on "so you think you think you can dance" this past season.
A must see, a tribute to breast cancer.
Dick Clark Productions Claimed It off UTube so it's pretty hard to find
Voted best dance on SYTYCD for first 5 years.

I don't know or care how well I dance (hubby says I'm good, but then he's got no rhythm). I dance around all of the time, but don't do things that have names or specific moves. I just like to get down and shake my booty! The kids and I dance around like crazy people often and hubby and I like to slow dance often. I don't generally dance in public without a few drinks in me, but that's more because I'm shy than concerned about how well I'll do.

My hubby is one of those PRO dancer kind of guys.
He's much much younger than I am...
Anyhow - I'm old School 80's - 90's... He's new school Rap/Hip/Hop.
I can watch him dance for hours and hours. I can't figure out how to get my body to move like that. I've tried and tried... And we just gave up.
Now he just laughs at me - but he dances with me and nobody else!
I'm a terrible dancer with GREAT Beat.
That means - I can move to the beat but my body just doesn't look good doing it.
However... I couldn't give 2 ounces of care if anyone is laughing at me. I LOVE to dance.
And I love having fun. And if I can make other people laugh at my goofy moves - well, then... So be it. At least I'm out there having fun.
2 years ago I couldn't walk more than 3 feet at a time. NOW - I cherish dancing.
And I can watch the hubby dance all day - all night. YUM. He can do things like Michael Jackson and Soulja Boy and all of those freakmasters.
He's REALLY good.
