How many of you are dancers? Not professional necessarily, just when you go to bars, parties, weddings, etc. are you a dancer or do you just hang on the sidelines?

If you don't dance is it because yu feel like you;re not a good dancer. Are there any people who know they're bad dancers, but do it anyway. I know I'm pretty bad, but pretty much embrace it and have fun anyway.

I'm just asking because I feel like everyone likes to dance but a lot of people don't because they feel uncomfortable. What do you think?

My dancing ability improves greatly with alcohol

I also have a very bad habit of dancing whilst cleaning, I bust some moves and throw some shapes, it is truly a horrendous sight to behold.
  2. melindaville
I used to be a professional dancer.

I am a very good dancer, if I do say so myself. Belly dancing (authentic Egyptian bellydancing) is my forte but I am a good dancer all the way around. I started taking dance lessons when I was only 4 years old and continued with them until I was in my early 20's. However, my tap dancing skills are not that great, I admit!

I don't dance professionally any more but I do dance for my husband on special occasions!

I only dance when I'm drunk. Needless to say, I'm a horrible dancer, and only a few drinks will cloud my mind enough to convince me to make a fool of myself.

    YEs, Yes!
I used to be shy growing up but now, I dance pretty well and it feels great to know that i at least have one ability, lol!

oh Jay,I love to DANCE!!! Don't know if you guys know or not,but my hubby left me a couple of weekends ago. He took my debit card and my truck. Thank the lord my girls were at my mother's.....

Anyways back to the point. I was kinda distraught,so my cuz tash who is staying with me at the moment, ended up talking me into going out to dance.
Well I went, but not to meet anyone, strictly for DANCING! The place we went to had GO GO dancers and everything. The only problem was,NOBODY would get on the dance floor, the Go Go's were doing their same little move over and over again.

Guess what,uh huh u guessed it. Yours truely was the first on the dance floor and about after 5 minutes I talked the snobs, the cutey's who can't dance and even DJ crumb.. to come out there with me and shake their money makers...It was SOOOOOOO much fun and I was also the last person on the dance floor. Dancing and Singing are a release for me,and I just might go back...

I took dancing lessons for about 8 years, and I'm pretty good with ballroom dances. I suck at disco/club kind of dancing, though.
  8. Jaybetee
I definitely have to be in the mood, but when i am I love it. As I noted, I know I am a bad dancer, but I don't care as I'm not the one who has to watch!

  11. celticmusicfan
I still go to raves..or dance alone in my bedroom listening to electronica like Paul Van Dyk, Schiller or Chicane.
  12. HollytheHousewife

  13. amybyrd21
Yes I dance but no I am not any good. But I do better than the chicken dance I was my friends dad do over and over in the br he owned growing up. It was embarrasing for my friend and she was blind and couldnt really see him do it
    1. HollytheHousewife
who cares how you look as long as your having fun.
  14. celticmusicfan
Indeed! it makes you happy.I used to dance Hip Hop but I shifted to Euro style.
  15. Theresa111
    Dance is exhilarating.
    1. agapelife
Exactly Theresa. I tend to agree with that song....
"Dance, dance where ever you may be....."
Look, Holly used dancing to release something negative that has happened.
And DBowles - when you respond to anything life throws at you, it is a kind of a dance!
Melinda hope more people could enjoy your dancing. Have you ever thought of passing your dancing skills to the younger generation??
Dancing is also spiritual. We are all dancing to the Music of Life.
  16. HollytheHousewife
well,I dance to everything. HELL,I dance when a good commercial comes on.haha
  17. HollytheHousewife
    brb,gotta lay the youngins down...

I grew up dancing. I would dance with my father or grandfather because none of their spouses like to dance. My grandpa taught me to tango and my father to waltz. And a few years ago, I had a friend from Argentina who taught me to dance salsa. And I love modern grooves too. So I can say, I am pretty good and have rhythym. It's great for the body and the soul!
  19. Rozie818
My brother's agent offered me years ago to appear on Johnny Carson.
I never took myself serious though, so I refused.
He seen me dancing to "Rock Around The Clock"
  20. HollytheHousewife
how could you ever pass up that kind of oppertunity. I would KILL,well maybe not kill, but definatly do somethin' for an oppertunity like that.
  21. Rozie818
I was not into being in front of people, or on stage or I would have been famous in my own right in other ways back then.
  22. HollytheHousewife
aweee,I know what ya mean though. Don't you wish you could do something you truly loved to do,make a living at it,but not be known for it.
  23. Rozie818
Yeah, always wanted to write the songs. But always got asked to be the lead singer.
  24. snappysparrow
    yeah i think so hahaha
  25. HollytheHousewife
I gotta idea rosie. U write, I sing,we get ashley simpson to move her lips...then everybodys happy

I used to be one of the best club dancers in NYC. I can still shake it up pretty good. The gymnastics came in handy.
    1. amybyrd21
That is so wrong in so many ways. I picture you bending over and kissing your butt. I use to do the gymnastic thing when I was alot younger. I remember the twisting and turning and it brought up really bad images.
  27. voodooKobra
I dance at parties, but I have literally no talent in dancing whatsoever. It's great fun.

I am, however, learning to rave.
    1. Jaybetee
does on really need to learn how to rave? From what I have heard, you just take a bunch of uppers, go to an abandoned building of some sort and dance to some techno/trance music all night
    2. voodooKobra
No, not at all. There's more to it than flailing around to techno/trance music, and I'm screwed up enough without drugs.

To answer your first question, yes and no. IMO, you need to learn one or two basic techniques, then just wing it. Nobody's going to be overly focused on you, so just have fun and don't worry if you make a mistake.
  28. Rozie818
Holly it's a deal lol I'll get my pen.

@ NP The High Bar, The Floor, The Ropes and The Horse does help with the dance moves. Makes the the body flexible and moves like air.
I used to bust some moves at the 82 club for hours on end in the old days.
  29. HollytheHousewife
Yea np I'm curious to see ya bust a move
    1. nothingprofound
Yeah, Rozie, Holly. It's funny. I can't sing, can't carry a tune, am completely tone deaf.. But when the music starts my body knows just want to do. Of course I'm older now and don't have the same flexibility or stamina. But the rhythm is still there.
  30. Rozie818
I wish I could still move like I used to.
Wish I could still walk like I used to lol
  31. HollytheHousewife
Oh y'all are just acting like you're over the hill or sumthin'. How old are u np? Rozie I would ask u,but I know the age rule with women...haha
  32. timethief
How many of you are dancers? Not professional necessarily, just when you go to bars, parties, weddings, etc. are you a dancer or do you just hang on the sidelines?

I love dancing and I usually put on some music and move the rhythm every day. Once the music starts I get up and move to the rhythm until I drop. Luckily I live in a great community where no matter what your age is no one judges you -- we just move to the music and have a great time. Setting aside steps and moves, what dancing really amounts to is simply moving your body to a rhythm. I never hang out on the sidelines at parties or community dances, and I certainly don't dance only with my husband. I dance with any one who wants to dance, regardless of their age or gender and I'm not inhibited I also dance alone.

I'm just asking because I feel like everyone likes to dance but a lot of people don't because they feel uncomfortable. What do you think?

I think you're right and it makes me sad when I notice that some people are just too inhibited to get up and move to the music.

Now as for being any good ... hmmm ... I can name many others among my friends and family, who dance better than I do. I have taken lessons in several forms of conventional dance and I've also been into belly dancing. My husband loves it when I surprise him from time to time with a private show.
  33. Rozie818
Speaking of dancing, here is one of the most powerful dancers I have ever seen.
It was on "so you think you think you can dance" this past season.
A must see, a tribute to breast cancer.
Dick Clark Productions Claimed It off UTube so it's pretty hard to find
Voted best dance on SYTYCD for first 5 years.

Oh yes, i dance. Its my best form of exercise. Right after swimming. And i'm a really good dancer. I go out dancing and sometimes i just put on the music at home and get grooving!
  35. ChrisMM
I dance not very well, but I know sth about Tango, Cha Cha Cha and Flamenco.
  36. TJlubrano
I love to dance! Sometimes hiphop, the other time a bit of salsa haha. It depends. As long there is music I shall dance.
  37. stayfitbug
I can dance well. I get the party started!! Just get any beat to my ear and its on
  38. alexinabox
I do breakdancing, hip-hop time to time. Alcohol helps apparently.
  39. legbamel
I don't know or care how well I dance (hubby says I'm good, but then he's got no rhythm). I dance around all of the time, but don't do things that have names or specific moves. I just like to get down and shake my booty! The kids and I dance around like crazy people often and hubby and I like to slow dance often. I don't generally dance in public without a few drinks in me, but that's more because I'm shy than concerned about how well I'll do.

My hubby is one of those PRO dancer kind of guys.

He's much much younger than I am...

    Anyhow - I'm old School 80's - 90's... He's new school Rap/Hip/Hop.

I can watch him dance for hours and hours. I can't figure out how to get my body to move like that. I've tried and tried... And we just gave up.

Now he just laughs at me - but he dances with me and nobody else!

I'm a terrible dancer with GREAT Beat.

That means - I can move to the beat but my body just doesn't look good doing it.

However... I couldn't give 2 ounces of care if anyone is laughing at me. I LOVE to dance.

And I love having fun. And if I can make other people laugh at my goofy moves - well, then... So be it. At least I'm out there having fun.

2 years ago I couldn't walk more than 3 feet at a time. NOW - I cherish dancing.

And I can watch the hubby dance all day - all night. YUM. He can do things like Michael Jackson and Soulja Boy and all of those freakmasters.

    He's REALLY good.
  41. SweetViolet
Yes, I dance. And I'm good enough to have made a living at it for a number of years.
