I want to know if you encourage art? Do you donate to an art like music (local band), do you let your children take an intrest in it, do you do something that makes others want to try it?
I took my kids to Hobby Lobby today. That was a mistake and a half. Now they have all kinds of ideas and they are all expensive or really messy. I am trying to be a good parent and encourage it. I bought $100 in supplies today minus two $4.00 candles.
I am teaching them music, and letting them explore diffrent kinds of art. We will see where this leads.

I encourage those who like to doodle and jot down random thoughts to get a small sketch journal easy to carry around, and instead of using a napkin at the coffee shop or scrap of paper, open up the sketch journal and log it there. I suggest 3 rules for use:
1. put anything down you want - drawings, sketch, or jumble of words.
2. Don't tear ANY pages out.
3. Complete the book before you start a new one.
Once finished, keep 'em. They can inspire future works. -
I'd encourage playing a musical instrument. Besides, being a joy that lasts a lifetime it opens up so many social possibilities.

Being an artist is like being a drug addict. It makes me passionate, snappy, obsessive and broke. I think I have put my kids off art for life.

art is always expensive isnt it! i remember how i did art in high school and they always kept on cutting the art budget cause its so pricey!
i encourage it-
"art is always expensive isnt it! "
Consider how many hours go into making a piece of fine art. The artist's training, planning, and experimentation, as well as the artist's expenses, like renting a studio, or buying supplies, and you'll realize that several hundred $US for a painting or sculpture is a bargain.
More likely, they were cutting the art budget at your school because it wasn't as popular with the parents as the even more expensive athletics budget.

Art is a centerpiece of my life, I teach it, paint it, draw it, sing it, dance it, write it and ecourage those aroud me to do likewise. It doesn't have to be expensive-crayons, pecil and paper are cheap. Singing and dancing are pretty much free.

I am an extremist when it comes to encouraging my children to be creative (themselves). My boys are 10 and they may cuss like sailors, but they are not at all affraid to express themselves. Both play music, skateboard, ride bmx bikes, write short stories, paint, draw, make collages, make books, edit videos that they shoot, dabble in printmaking, etc. If I had to name one thing that I have done right in my life it would be that I never stiffled my childrens creativity.

The majority of bloggers I have tagged as friends are involved in creative expression in one form or another. Interesting, however, that I find few entries in the "art" groups. I myself don't check there any more. Somewhat disappointing but such is life. The majority of posts - even if about art - have to be here - general discussions - if one hopes to get any readers/commentaries.
