Do you ever turn off your mobile?

Do you ever turn off your mobile?
If yes, why? If not, why not? Mobile phones have become part of our everyday life in a matter of years.
Do you turn your mobile off when nobody asks you to? Maybe when you sleep? -it beeps to wake you up anyway. Why is the on/off button the less frequently pressed one?

I turn my mobile phone off when I'm at work because it interferes with the wireless (old wireless cards in the computer), I turn it off when I sleep, and I turn it off when I don't want to be disturbed by random interuptions. -
yes, because I have a house phone. Usually when I am at home with my partner I am home with my partner....All calls end when I am at home! -
No, I don't turn it off. But I do put it on silent when I'm in a discussion or around patients.-
You're a soon to be doctor though, I imagine you need to keep it on, even if it's just to get into the habit.

I turn it off when I'm in college, or just silence it and check for calls afterwards. -

private one and a work mobile too? if yes, are they both permanently on? -

Thanks all for your comments. ChrisRO, Andelee - you must be very conscious mobile users. It took me a while to realize I do not necessarily need to be available all the time. Do not you think that mobiles are overused? -

Yeah. I finally got one last year. Then again, I always said cell phones are the devil.
Nice for emergencies, but it took forever to get everyone to STOP CALLING & TEXTING ALL THE #&$^@^$* TIME!!! -

I do not think you are the last one but you most probably belong to the minority.. Any reasons why you never decided to buy one?-
I actually did have one back in the dinosaur ages (1995). But I never used it much. Since then, I haven't developed a need. I don't have kids, so that's a large part of why I don't need one. I figure if I ever have an emergency (where I'm not entirely alone), all I have to do is turn around and find 12 people who do have a cell phone and they can call 911 for me

I only tend to turn off my mobile if on an aircraft, and told to do so - otherwise I just switch it to silent. -
on board the aircraft and when I go to bed. -
I use mine for emergencies and outgoing long distance calls. It's usually on but rarely used. -
Not that often. If there is a meeting, sometimes, it just have to be off or when you are in the cinema. Have to think of others , sometime. -
I never turn mine off! But I always leave it at home when I go out and out of ear-range when I'm at home. Those things are such nuisances. And if one more person annoys me with their mobile while I'm in Starbucks or a theater I'm going to have to reconsider my normally pacifist nature. But that's probably just me. I'm an old fart.-
That's what silent mode is for.

I switch off my mobile just as much as my landline phone and doorbesll..

NEVER! on any given day when i go out of the house ..it doubles as my mp3 player and is interrupted only when i receive a call or sms , after which would return to playing music automatically... i take it from the time i leave for work with the earphones stuck on my ears... during work if i want to hear somebody who is talking to me.. i take off 1 earphone and place it back after the conversation. its music playing stops only when i get home and i am able to play music via my pc connected to real good loud speakers.
then my phone stays quiet and i do the recharging at this time..but never turned off even at night coz in the morning its my wake-up call, how can i turn it off? when can i turn it off.. maybe when there's a need for a new battery.... -
mine stays off all of the time unless I want to make a call. -
Mine is off unless I'm making a call or am out of town. There's little going on in my life that can't wait a couple of hours to reach me. -
No. Never. I do not even have a land line. I have a cell and Diane has a cell. That's it.

I turn it off in important meetings, on a plane, and in the movies. Otherwise... nope. -

Thanks for all your comments so far! I am happy to see that most of you are well aware of this that mobiles can be turned off whenever you find it necessary. Have any of you considered turning it off to save energy? Does it sound like a joke to suggest turning it off for the sake of saving energy?

I never turn it off if my daughter isn't with me. If I'm among people I'll usually turn it to vibrate, and I will turn it off or even leave it home sometimes when my daughter is with me, but I'm never unreachable to her or the adult who is caring for her. -
i never turn mine off unless on an airplane or if i run the battery so low that it turns itself on. i don't answer every call. i put it on silent when the location warrants it. i use it as an alarm and calendar as well. -
Mine is on 24 hours a day but it is on the kitchen counter attached to the charger. Since I won't go out of my way to answer it, I only answer it if I happen to be in the kitchen when it rings. -

I turn it off in the movie theater, other than that, it's on. I don't have a land line though (seems redundant for me). -
All the time - my wife is a walking, talking social calendar and seeing we spend so much of our time together - it gets turned off all the time! -

Don't have one. We just have our home phone and we a re perfectly happy with it. -
Unfortunately no. Owning your own business makes you work crazy hours. But I wouldn’t trade it to go back to work for, "the man".-
know what you mean - we're pretty much 24/7 - what with 5 kids between us as well and parents at opposite ends of the country.....

I don't turn it off and I keep it on silent and I rarely look at it! Years ago, I'm really addicted to it, the whole texting every minute thing. But now, my computer is far more important.
I only use my phone in sending and replying to important messages. -
I don't shut mine off very often, but I do have a special liking of the "silence" button. Makes me feel like the Great Wizzard of OZ - SILENCE! Occassionally I'll shut it off if I really feel like just being left alone. Most of the time if I'm going somewhere I can't answer it anyway, I'll just leave it in the car. -
It turned itself off the other day, it went thru my washing machine... it's dead -
Well yes, in a movie theater. -
You have to turn it off sometimes. Sometimes you have to reboot your mobile like a computer. -
I never turn either of my cell phones off. Though I would like to turn my work phone off so it doesn't ring at 5 am but I can't 
My personal cell reboots itself from time to time so I don't have to. Now the question is do I answer my cell phone all the time? Nope! I leave my phone in the car or bus if I am somewhere I don't want it to ring. -

I turn my private one off at nights as I get freaks calling me, the phone company put my number in the book and they were not meant to. My business one is on 24/7 has been for the last 2 years, it has only been off a few times and that was because of windows crashing. -

The closest I get to turning it off, is turning the ringer to vibrate. That way I still know if I'm getting a call. I wouldn't want to miss anything. haha. -
I never turn off my cell. Whoever disturbs me with unnecessary calls or pesters me with nonsense smses i blacklist the number and lo from the next time the number is blocked. -

Nope I never turn mine off. I think overall it contributes to my batteries wearing out faster but I always have mine on anyways. -
I don't turn if off as often as I'd like to, and I miss it when I leave it at home, but I am trying not to keep it with me all the time and to turn it off whenever possible.. I prefer sending an sms to making a call.

I have my phone on at all times and when I forget it someplace or at a friends house I turn all the way around to get it. Even if it is Five o'clock in the morning. Haha. I'm trying to get over it though.
