   I've definitely made some friends-- and those folks are as I'd thought they'd be when I met them in person.
   
   But I'm pretty good at telling when folks are just making stuff up, too. So I imagine I've been lucky weeding out a lot of people who might otherwise not have been completely straight with the facts online.

   I don't add strangers on my account. Most of them are friends, schoolmates, officemates or friends of friends. But No to adding people whom I don't know personally.

   I have found a handful that I have gotten to know, had interesting conversations. I say you have to remain open to all possibilities... I have a great postcard exchange going with about 30 people in all different places that has been fun, though I have not met any of them personally.
   
   However, the majority of friends and contacts on social sites are people I already knew in the past

   I guess there are loads of genuine people about. I go to BC because I love reading what other people post and I think that's about it. If I make friends then it's cool. Although I met my hubby on-line.

   I've met three very good friends online, one in a now-defunct online writers' group and two right here at BC. The writers' group friendship has lasted 9 years so far.
