Do you get traffic from blogcatalog?

Hello!
I've only been on blogcatalog for a couple of days, since I wanted to find readers for my blog www.ustandout.com and find similar blogs to follow. However, it seems like there's more self-promotion going on than meaningful networking.
Perhaps I'm not using blogcatalog right? Those of you who keep track of your stats (which I'm sure is most...), do you see that you get traffic from this site? If so, which blogcatalog feature is the best for getting repeat visitors to your blog?

It does take a bit of working at and visiting around, there are some nice people around, the discussion board is a bit cliquey
-
I agree, BC forum is a tad cliquey at times. Having said that, there are some amazing people here, who were really helpful during my early blogging days.
Regarding traffic - Stumble seems to work best for me. However Stumblers don't tend to comment. Conversely EntreCard members simply leave a high bounce rate - Grrr. I'm still undecided about EC - even though I have well over 45k in credits.
BC is the place to come for chatting to like minded people.

for now I am just getting 7% of my traffic from blogcatalog.
I think it takes more time (have to many lots of friends, etc)
main traffic comes from bookmarkers and google.-
I get some traffic. The more I visit the blogcatalog members' blogs, the more they visit mine. It's definitely a good way to motivate people to enjoy your work and to give you a nudge to broaden your horizons in the bargain.
For instance I just went to ezze66 page and find that his account his pending approval and that he is listed as a group guest? Can anyone tell me what's up with that?

I'm getting a fair amount of traffic through blogcatalog. I dunno. Over the past 5 days I've had 172 unique visitors...I haven't spent the time to sort it all out yet and say how much, but I do get a fair amount.
Probably more important than the traffic is the critiquing from more experienced bloggers and the friendly community. Since I'm new to blogging, all of the advice is very helpful. -
Promote your post using shameless blog promo.
****Forget Traffic from BC for now***
Dear Diana Look Yonder! your post will be on the first page of google search.
This is how I attract Traffic, This is much better than Submitting to digg .......as for me. -
Remember that there is a difference between hits and targeted traffic. The best BC traffic you're going to see at your blog is going to come from participating in discussions about Social Media. Watch the boards and answer peoples questions about your topic. Give them some good information and point them to a post that goes more in depth.
Start some SN related threads of your own offering advice and asking where others are at.
Blog catalog's desire is not to send you traffic. It is to send you readers. Tony said that to me shortly after I arrived here and I knew I was in a good place.-
That's an excellent point. Much of the traffic that I get from BC is excellent, quality traffic with more than one page and averaging a minute or longer on my blogs. Since it doesn't take long to read a post, that means that they're reading more than one. That means that they're interested in the topic and may come back on their own or subscribe to my feed. You can't get much better than that!

I looked at your blog last night and have to say that it is very nice. Well layed out.
My advice, for what it is worth is this: Don't worry a single minute about getting traffic from blog catalog. You will get some if you hang around here, but it won't be enough. I would try and rank at Google for a few really good key words and just hammer away on those. You will get lots more traffic that way.
Blog catalog is a great place to meet other people in your niche, people who can help you with blogging, and people that can help you with WordPress.-
Thanks for the tip! Google has been really helpful for getting traffic to other websites in the past, but I haven't gotten any organic search traffic to U Stand Out yet. Then again, it's only 2 weeks old, maybe that has something to do with it? I've done the top SEO tricks (google sitemap, meta tags, keywords in URLs, etc), so maybe I just need to be patient now. :-)

I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and my blog gets hit everyday by somebody new. Participate, check out other's blogs and the favor will be returned.

well, i do..
well, its not only self-promotion. You see, getting recognized by other bloggers is very important. Having a good topics that interest readers and answer questions posted in your discussions. bloggers will recognize your blogs and you as well. if you do, you get more traffic and at the same time followers who keeps on visiting your site for updates. -
A lot of those leaving comments or adding me as their friend do it for self promotion. Some did not even bother visiting my blog. Every now and then, rarely I must say, someone seems to genuinely like my photos and post a comment to say so , not just for promoting their own site but it is the exception rather than the rule. Overall, I get very little traffic from blog catalog. I am not present enough on discussion forums overall.

Blogcatalog is a great place to get traffic. If you have a good blog or website, it will be noticed. If you are active in discussions and willing to participate and share what you learned, you will be noticed that will sometimes point to your site. The most effective is using the broadcast section, try it and you get even more. This is what I learned. Just make your headings attention grabber or catchy.

I'm new to the community as well and have appreciated the advice provided in this discussion--thanks to all; I'm looking forward to keeping in touch with some of you.

There are 7 benefits that I experience from being a Blog Catalog member. One of them is traffic to my blogs and the others are found in this post

i get tons of traffic from blog catalog.
why it's the best thing since jack lalanne's juicer.
in fact, i plan to name my next child, tony, as a gratuity for the fine services this website provides.
(you can move my comment to the shameless promotion category if you'd like) -
I hardly get traffic from here, I would say 2-10 hits a day. I usually get traffic from digg.com, and for some reason my blog appears high on google search engine with popular search terms that are obviously related to stories I have blogged about.

Floods of one hit wonders who may rush in and spend a second two on blogs is not what BC is set up to provide. Everything here is set up to assist members to network effectively with the aim of creating blog centered relationships with readers. -

(1) Blog Catalog is not set up to drive traffic to blogs. It’s is set up to drive readers to your blogs. All the excellent utilities and features are aimed at assisting members to increase readers, as opposed to delivering a flood of one hit wonders that produce a high bounce rate.
(2) There are 200,000 BC members and few ever post to the forum(s) at all. The BC members with top rated blogs are not spending a lot of time tooling around shooting the breeze in the forums. They are using far more effective means of promoting their blogs. If you are focused on blog promotion and aiming to create enduring blog centered relationships then don’t waste a lot of your time camping out in the social forum.

I have had my blog on here 3 weeks and have received 72 visitors. I need to join in the discussions more to advertise the quality content I have on seo. I am an seo consultant and my blog is 50% promotion of my services and the other half is free seo tutorials. I think people see the promotion of my services on the first page and then go no further.
Still the traffic I do get from here tend to read my site and the bounce rate is low. -
I have had my blog here for about a month and I have had aprox. 10 visits *shrug*. Those that come send me friend requests and invite me to join groups so that helps to build a network. I'm hoping that reader average will improve over time.

Yep, a few of my visitors are from blogcatalog and I also visit a lot of blogs I find at BC.
My lastest post.

I'm new here but I've been getting traffic from BC. Not a significant number but the fact that I can get at least one on a given day means there are people in here who look around for blogs they want to read. I, too, look around for blogs, but I tend to avoid those who employ hardsell to attract fellow bloggers because when I do visit them, there is nothing to "sell".
-
i agree with those who have previously posted comments that traffic quality is more important. Most days I get only one or two and I check how much time they spent reading the blog. Return visits, I have no idea but I do hope I'm getting return visit thru BC.
-
I have NEVER gotten a single hit from BlogCatalog. What is this some kind of conspiracy?
Ironically, I get around 150 hits a month but ZERO from BlogCatalog.-
How many BC members blogs that are related to your own have you (1) visited (2) left meaningful comments on? I ask because that's the way blog centered relationships are built.
Hint: If you go to your BC profile page and look in the sidebar there will be related blogs displayed there. I see four that you can visit and leave comments on.

If you are active in the groups you will receive some traffic. However, more importantly Google will find your articles in the group discussions and thus links to your site. That will give you more "google" traffic and in the end that is the main traffic driver.
For the rest some of the groups have really good discussions and usefull information. But filtering them out is not always easy and takes time. All in all BC has certainly been of benefit for me!

@Dianaf86,
I get some traffic from BC.
I agree with Timethief, you should look for similar blogs to your blog, visit them and comment.
I have a widget on mine so that I can see who's visited. I visit other personal development blogs and I am trying to comment on as many as possible. I also visit blogs on blogging.
I will not add a blog to my favourites and comment on their blog just because they add me to their favourites.
Dianaf86 I have added your blog, commented, and dugg it because I genuinely enjoyed your post how to use Twitter. Thank you for writing your next post based on my question.
I think BC is a great place to interact with other bloggers. I prefer it to Mybloglog which is stagnant.
Bloggers on BC post great questions. -
Hi
I'm getting quite a few viewers from here (I'm fairly new on here as well), but only a couple people comment regularly . Many are on my follower's list, and added me a friend on here, but I am yet to interact with them
I suppose it depends what people's taste are in blogs, as to whether you get regular traffic, and how interesting your content is.
I have commented on quite a few people's blogs, I've seen promoting themselves in these threads, but most of them don't seem to want to respond LOL
However it's lovely to be here, and to have the opportunity that you will eventually find people that enjoy visiting your blog (or have something in common), and visa versa.
I am gathering the money making or blog help type blogs would get lots more traffic ;-) -
Absolutely. I didn't realize this until I switched site traffic trackers. Now I can see that quite a few of my visitors are from Blog Catalog. Better yet tho - I really like the interaction of being here. I don't use the groups and boards on other sites nearly as much as I do here. I feel like I get a lot of support from other BC'ers.
-
Yes, in my case, BC contributes about 5-10% of traffic daily to my blog. Maybe because I have a lot of friends /contacts in BC and sometimes I joined in the discussion forum. But of course, it is still back to the basics of getting traffic, namely, promotion and advertising, posting high quality blog content and updating it regularly, search engine optimization, and having a good theme and lay-out.
