Do you give away Clothing to goodwill, Salvation Army, etc?

I just wrote about second-hand American clothing being sold in Africa. Have you ever donated clothes? I must have been naive as I thought those clothes would actually be given, not sold. I'm not blaming the Salavation army as I know they need to stay afloat.

I give goods to Goodwill and think they are a wonderful organization. I will not do so to the Salvation Army, primarily because of the strong religious ties and anti-gay stance.
Before anyone wants to chastise me for not giving to the Salvation Army because they still do good, I'd like to remind you that there are plenty of other worthy causes I can give to.-
I refuse to donate to SA for the same reasons (Anti-gay stance).
Plus, they haven't done a lick of good in our community in many years. While Goodwill continues to donate money and offer charitable works for good causes, our local SA has been accused of racketeering and don't do anything but sell the donations.

No, I have a seconh hand store nearby that sells things much cheaper than the S.A. I'm not knocking it. Just it seems to me if you are going to give something to a second hand store they jack up the price. I prefer it to go to someone that has a much more difficult time purchasing. I either give it away or take it to the second hand store that has $1.00 bag day.

I always thought the Salvation Army, and other organizations, were pretty up front with what they do with the clothes donated. Quite often they sell them and use the money for various programs for the homeless. Most are sold in their stores, which are open to the public, so anyone could buy them. Quite often they need the money more than the clothes, so it's all a worthy cause. I donate to several organizations. In my area the Salvation Army is the only organization that has a homeless shelter, so while I disagree with their theology ... I can't deny the work they do in my community. Without them we wouldn't have a shelter.
Keep donating, there's lots of great organizations out there.

I usually donate to the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. They make a pick up about once a month and if I have anything they get it. I also like to donate clothing to Savers...it's a resale store that gives proceeds to the Safe Nest program for battered women. I buy from them, too. I've found some great clothes at Savers.
