   I don't use instant messaging anymore, but Aim/Aol is too buggy and stupid.
   
   Jabber is open source and run by volunteers, not faceless clowns.
   Gtalk seems to be the standard since most people here have a gmail account and works fairly good with no annoying banner ads. Last time I checked it was still in beta stage.
   Pidgin supports multi-network instant message and is also open source, kinda like trillian but without the bells and whistles most people don't need. It works with about 10 instant message systems. It used to be called Gaim but AOL decided to piss their pants and make them change the name.
