I don't know whether you'd call it a collection, but I LOVE Hot Wheels. I have quite a few of the die-cast cars from the first few years, including several from the initial release year (1968) that are stamped 1967. The new ones are nowhere near as cool, but I still buy them from time to time.
  2. acomia
Wow, you've got real vintage stuff there. 1967! Have you ever featured your collection in your blog? And you're the only woman I know who collects die cast cars. Cool!
    1. MadameX
A product of my environment! (We had a lot of classic cars when I was growing up) I've never put them on my blogs, though--though now that you mention it they'd make some great pictures--because they don't really fit any of my themes. And I'm absolutely not (remind me of this, please!) starting another blog. Not. Definitely. No.
  3. stevens8204
That is pretty cool....I have a lego collection of the old police, fire and moon base sets.
  4. theliterate
I feel like such a child, but I collect Disney dvds haha. It's not really me, but my brother who buys them. It's nice to have for your kids Who doesn't like Disney movies?

    Hakuna matata.
  5. acomia
I have several Disney Movies, too. They're really good pieces of film!
  6. binventive
I went nuts a few years ago getting into various forms of hand drumming. I probably have over 30 drums now, although they are mostly just collecting dust now.
  7. iluvmonkeys2
ummm...i have a corona cap collection...okay, that probably doesn't count, but i'll bet my monkey collection does! i even have that fun little guy with the cymbals...
  8. cymrusteve
A collection of marathon medals. How sad is that?
  9. acomia
Legos, drums, monkeys, and medals – how interesting! I'd love to read about their stories. cymrusteve, you must have been some athlete!
    1. cymrusteve
Depends on the definition of "athlete". I like running marathons and have a "huge" collection of 18 Hope to pick up many more in the years to come...
  10. absolutelytrue
I have quite a few beanie babies for some reason... and my son has a few hundred die cast cars. Some I got on ebay and they are very old but I think not as old as MadameX's collection. I think his oldest one is from the early 70's. They are neat.
  11. diamondssaphire
I have a collection of Snowbabies. I am not an avid collector but a lady at work sells Avon and I buy them from her. I have about 25 or so.
  12. cyberchic
My collection consists of half-written drafts of fiction stories. Maybe someday I'll finish them and get them off my desktop!
  13. acomia
Cyberchic, writing murder mysteries is a fascinating calling. I can imagine getting goosebumps if I was writing one of those during late nights... :-)
  14. ThriftShopRomantic
My most recent favorite collection is postcards from about 1910.

They're such fun because the graphics are absolutely not made like that anymore, very vibrant colors-- some of them actually have ribbon or fabric glued to them-- and some of the sayings sound so quaint now.

Best thing is, they're cheap, don't take up much space, and yet seem like just a little bit of history to me.

I actually use them when I need specific holiday/occasion graphics for my blog.
  15. bidarlah
does cds of my favorite singer - sandy lam - counts? from black vinyl to posters, from photos to magazine cut out.

other than tat, would love to collect vintage sunnies that i would pay and wear them myself, not those ridiculous ones haha! so far i got only a couple vintages and am still searching them around. Any one got any?
  16. aussiecynic
    I collect dragons....all shapes....all sizes..from all over the world....
    1. acomia
Once, a feng shui expert told me that we should have a dragon figure in our office because none of the people there were born in the year of the dragon. The dragon is considered an lucky symbol in Asia, you see.
  17. cymrusteve
Ah, I forgot about my collection of Welsh dragons...
    1. gosmelltheflowers
      There's lovely!
  18. acomia
I wish we could post pics of these collections somewhere... That would be really interesting. A montage of different and unique inclinations....
    1. ThriftShopRomantic

  21. AngieA

Light houses - I have always liked them b/c they remind me that sometimes when things might go wrong for us, our faith brings us back.
And isn't faith what its all about?
    1. acomia
you collect paintings of lighthouses or actual models? By the way, how did you attach the pic? That's cool!
  22. AngieA
Both, I was collecting both kinds but I have stopped of a while as there was to many of them.
The picture, you have to enter it in HTML code.
    Try one Acomia
    1. acomia
Ok, here goes: A pic of my first set of Be@rbricks.

    2. acomia
Hey, that worked! Thanks AngeldaVinci! :-)
  23. AngieA
    Thats great... U did it!

And you want to hear something else Acomia?
I once gave what I thought was a really nice custom made light house that cost me a pretty penny to someone that I thought would enjoy it.
It was really pretty and this one light house had a custom crystal glass bulb where the light shines threw and it reflected threw the crystal which then does rotate threw out the room as most of the ones I have you can use as night lights.
Anyway.....you know what he said to me?
    He said....."I don't like stuff"
  24. acomia
Well, that's the thing with collectors like us; some people will never understand our attraction to particular 'stuff'. :-D But of course, that's no excuse for rudeness on the part of your friend. He could have at least said 'Thank you'.
    1. AngieA
It wasn’t really said in a rude way, it was just one of those awkward moments I guess.
      Oh well ........
  25. jphillips

  29. VioletsVintage
I collect vintage jewelry and I seem to have acquired a large collection of art books over the years, and books about birds.
  30. acomia
VioletsVintage, in my country, a lot of women are going into jewelry design. The market seems to be huge and there's a lot of demand. I suppose a lot women collect jewelry, too. :-)
  31. GrimlyFiendish
I collect old software and emulators. Games that were for the zx81 and up. Sad, I know.
  32. VampireFaust
    Comic books...
I also collect vampire novels...and very old, rare books...
    1. acomia
So what do you think is the best vampire novel apart from Bram Stoker's Dracula?
    2. VampireFaust
I have to say that I am rather partial to Brian Lumley's "Necroscope" series. The novels "The Vampire Lestat" and "Memnoch the Devil" and "Tale of the Body Theif" from the Anne Rice collection are among my favorites as well.
  33. Jaya

  37. timethief
I have a collection of memories that I treasure very much. This winter I plan to write them all down in a private blog that I will share with my siblings and their children.
  38. Jeunelle
I collect Rare books, mainly to read.

Semi precious stones which I now use to create my own artisan jewelry.
I plan on selling them later to make some extra cash and also a hobby when I have spare time at home. I'm taking a couple of artisan jewelry classes starting next month, already signed up for them.

I collect sea shell sometimes and animal horns along with Masai spears and shields.
They come in handy when I need to run down an old landlord when he comes around to ask for rent.

I would also like to add that I have gotten sick of possessions and one day gave them all away at my local Goodwill store. My mother thought I was nuts but I honestly didn't miss them.
  39. ryam
I used to collect stamps and coins... until someone decided to hide them from me and not tell anyone where they were hidden until after a year. By the time I found it, I already lost interest and sold my collection.
    1. annaswan
Ryam - that is so sad... shame on the person who hid the collections from you! But my husband once took away my crochet basket too, because I was ignorning him if I had it out. LOL
    2. Jeunelle
@ryam...Damn I know how you feel....I had a collection of stamps and that was later stolen.

My Grandmother collected bells which she loved to ring and annoy me with during the day. Originally the bells were there for her to ring to signal to us that she's having trouble with her heart condition and/or diabetes. We would know what to do.

Of course she constantly abused the system and rang those bells when nothing was wrong with her. I went completely mad one day and took a hammer and smashed them all
and handed them to her. I had enough of the bells.

I´ve got a small collection of coins that was given to me a decade ago. I don´t have a particular interest in coin-collecting, but I've kept the coins in case I should travel in the future and get a chance to expand this collection.

My father also has a coin collection from his travels, but he doesn't travel anymore and just keeps the coins in a drawer. Up until this topic I hadn't thought of them in many years.

Believe it or not...I have a huge Happy Meal Toy collection...back in the good ol days I was a proud victim of the Standard American Diet (SAD)...my hope now, however is to pay off my medical school student loans with them someday. That would be the ultimate in satire. I have seen some high bids on ebay for these thins already and figure in another 20 years they may be worthy buku. *shudders at the thought of still paying student loans in 20 years*

I used to collect crap. Which means speculation…thinking something will grow in value. An investment! HA! Everything I collect is worth exactly what I paid for it. And factor in inflation, less. And figure trying to sell this crap on Ebay…the time and effort. Forget collecting for profit…stick with the STOCK MARKET! That is a sure fire way to make big money! Yeah right.
  72. sorcerer
err..I have a collection, of many things,
coins..yeah but I lost interest in it, cuz that was when I was a kid, and soon I learned that, currency holds more value.
NOw..I diversified myself into a more happenind collection.
    Porn,
I think in my friends circle... the alpha male is not known by how many girl friends he have, but by his porn collection count..either in the number of CD's or DVD's or the Total MB/GB/TB ..which ever is higher.

Oh, also NES/SNES carts and console stuff.

Don't like to clutter the house up too much though, how do you all find room for your collections? Ever had to throw something out because it was just becoming a bit too much?
    1. Floormodel
I have a large collection of NES, Sega Genesis, and Atari consoles and games. We keep the games in under the bed plastic storage bins.

Our basement is finished and the pinballs are down there, except for the 3 we're restoring. My other half's jukeboxes and wall boxes are also down there, except for the ones we're restoring. My books are in storage right now, no room in the house until we built shelves in one bedroom's walls. Our cameras are on display in the livingroom.
