What do you normally have for breakfast? Some people told me a person ought to have a heavy breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day. Is it true, I wonder.

I think it's true, so you can use the energy from it throughout the day.

But I just have oatmeal, doctor's orders (cholesterol problems).
    1. MadameX
Oatmeal is actually one of the best foods for drawing energy over a period of time, because it releases natural sugars slowly rather than creating a rush and then drop.
    2. footiam
Garlic I heard, lowers the cholesterol in your blood.
  2. ThriftShopRomantic
A banana and a cup of coffee.
    1. acousticguitarist
      that's very funny.

I have hot lemon and water, my body feels weird without it.
  3. mikeny07

I limit my intake of all carbs. So I have 1 egg, coffee and a handful of nuts. I eat 6 small meals a day (less than 30 carbs per day).
  8. Parabunny
Usually I have orange juice preferably with pulp, rye bread (well, sometimes white rolls) with sliced turkey and cucumber/tomato and of course coffee.

Although lately I've been skipping breakfest. Just been too lazy to get up early enough.
  9. Serenacyh
    Muesli and low fat milk.
    1. footiam
Never heard of Muesli but will find up more about it!

Everyone seems to have the same type of breakfast. Over here, I take rice, sometimes noodles, sometimes bread although some people say that noodles, fried especially is not good for health. What do you think?
  13. awannabe
There's no normal breakfast for me.
It could be eggs and toast, oatmel, or cereal.
    But usually something traditional.
Or I skip breakfast and wait til lunch. (eek)
its 11:19 am and theres a rumbly in my tummy
    1. footiam
I wonder what is traditional breakfast, awannabe.
  14. mdsanta
i used to get cheeseburger with fries at 5 in the morning but I stopped.
  15. Jewelsofhealth
I take an awesome whole foods drink in the morning called "The Feast". This gives me energy and nutrition. About 30 minutes later, I eat a good sized breakfast- eggs, toast, fruit, etc. That keeps me going for a while.
    1. footiam
I bet you don't have the last supper then!
  16. mthandeni
I eat Magwinya (Fat cake in English) and tea, sometimes toast and tea or just wheatbix and milk!
  17. awannabe
mmm... I had Thanksgiving leftovers.... that isn't healthy, eh?
    1. footiam
      Better than having nothing!
  18. mdsanta
I had no thanksgiving dinner, as I was by myself this year, so no leftovers. I did have a wendy's triple decker sometime at noon though. starting to get hungry again now actually.
    1. footiam
      That's a surprise answer!
  19. suburbqueen
I run very early in the morning and after I return and shower, I am starving! Breakfast and dinner are probably my biggest meals of the day.

As I walked downtown and ignored the traffic Noise, I ate a piece of Carrot Cake. Took the Pawtucket #99 to Main St. Got in the Office, sat and ate a honeybun, while this stranger tried not to stare at me eating ( i noticed him watching). Filled out some paperwork that should have been done a week ago and thought to myself. "I need a life". I have to much freedom.
  21. jackpayne
    McDonald's sausage and egg McMuffin.

    1. footiam
I like porridge for breakfast but not croissant. Croissant is dry!
  23. monkeytale
I'm not really a breakfast eater...unless Pepsi counts.
    1. footiam
Pepsi in the morning? Doesn't sound very healthy.
    2. acousticguitarist
you have pepsi in the morning...? wow
    3. TonyB
      could be worse...could be coke
    4. acousticguitarist
the idea hurts my head, I haven't had pepsi since 1973 or 4
    5. TonyB
That makes sense.... monkeytale's car is from then too. He somehow got stuck in time. I now understand why his daughter thinks he's an alien.
    6. acousticguitarist

    7. TonyB
      probably coke
    8. acousticguitarist

It depends on whether I am busy or not. Some days, a heavy brakfast is needed as it can also make up for the days where you may not have had a good brakfast or no breakfast at all. Breaktfast is not on my itinerary right now.
  26. acousticguitarist
today...rice apples soya milk and cinnamon
  27. zawadi
Forgot to eat or just wasn't in the mood for food.
    1. footiam

  31. techfun
I normally have two packets of McCann's Instant Oatmeal if I'm at work for breakfast or Red Mills Scottish-cut slow cooking oatmeal if I am at home.
  32. gosmelltheflowers
Well today, as Jim prepares for the flowrrs weight loss contest he ate nothing as he was getting body fat measured - no food or drink 3 hours before....the best is a per tech fun - oatmeal with its slow release of energy, sometimes an omlettes, sometimes toast but ensure you have breakfast - break the fast - most importamt meal of the day! :-)
  33. AmyWeber
I have to eat breakfast, I think it's the most important meal of the day. Not too heavy, maybe some cereal or eggs, Depends. I know in some countries they have their big meals first. Seems strange but I guess not to them.
  34. kdawg68
Airplane food. United "fresh fruit" entree. Oh, and the stale crackers and cheese.

Slept all plane ride so here I am awake at 4 AM
    1. footiam
Oh! You are in a plane. Good thing you have a laptop to amuse you. I wonder which airline provides stale crackers.
  35. genopianist54
As usual.. a bowl of oatmeal
  36. phoenix007

    1. footiam
      Prata, think so. Nice!
    2. acousticguitarist
don't go much on idli or upma, but parathas are fine, but not for breakfast
    3. nplbjirel
I understand Prathana(it means to pray of someone like God, right?). But is this breafast? Hearing for the first time.
  38. acousticguitarist
I usually have banana or peach pancakes with honey

at other times if it's mango season I'll have those
  39. TonyB
no since I usually go to sleep at around breakfast time
    1. footiam
      Oh! How convenient!
  40. calais50
i only eat b'fast on weekends. too busy.
  41. Anniepooh
I had nothing yet today - too busy. Different each day - hummus and pita or bagel with cheese (1/2 if it's the big ones) but no sugar - I'm hypoglycemic and it sets my day off way wrong.

By the way, I don't know how everyone else gets away with oatmeal. If I have it my blood sugar drops within an hour and a half. I must be the odd one out - as usual.
  42. Ranu
The best is to have small portion size, six times a day and not overstuffing yourself.
  43. melindaville
I normally have a smallish bowl of oatmeal and if I am really hungry, a piece of fruit or yogurt to go with. I eat smaller meals.
  44. globalgirl
I am eating oatmeal and dried cranberries right now from Trader Joes. Yummy.
  45. TragicComedy
Typically, I don't eat breakfast but I started a diet where I don't eat after 7 so now I eat a bagel in the morning.
  46. JaydenVasara
i usually have a protein bar and a large cup of coffee..........then i hit the gym
  47. BeInWonder
eggs and toast, pot of coffee ... that's about it today.
  48. RTBjr73
6 egg omelet, 2 muffins, bacon, OJ, milk, 3 cups of coffee...

(I was at the gym for two hours before breakfast cardio, weights, and kickboxing.)
  49. LGramlich
I'm bad--I usually have nothing during the week. On occassion I'll have some tea & toast (or a fruit cup or something.) Sometimes I'll just grab a cheesestring on my way out the door. When we're off on the weekends we like to have breakfast together, though (in which case it's usually bacon, eggs & water for him & eggs, fruit & 2% milk for me.) I admit that I do function better when I fuel the Lanamobile with breakfast, though.
  50. jadedconformist
I'm usually in a rush - so I grab whatever I can and eat my bachelor breakfast standing up at the breakfast bar.
  51. Bayho
I usually have a small breakfest because my work out is somewhat intense in the morning. I think that if i were to have a big breakfast i would throw up. I usually have a bananna, or a bowl of cereal, or a couple pieces of toast. I eat right after i work out though because i work up a big appitite.
  52. hadrian1407
Omelette and bread plus cereals. That will give enough energy for the day.
  53. farangrakthai
Rice soup with chicken and eggs
Noodle soup with chichen and eggs
    Eggs with bread and bacon
    Cereals with milk
    Fruit and vegetable juice

    In that order...
  54. SweetViolet
yoghurt or a piece of fruit.

But I cook a breakfast for my husband, usually eggs and meat of some kind, mushrooms and grilled tomatoes, baked beans and, if his blood sugar is within bounds, toasted low GI bread with sugar-free jam.
    1. footiam
      Lucky husband!
  55. ernestlobo
I generally have eggs... but since the past two days I'm on a liquid diet cuz I cant open my mouth... Getting a wisdom tooth so the end of my jaw is swollen and it hurts so much!! grrrrr
    1. footiam
Think of it as a break from routine.
  56. mike2305
You may like to try a banana as well
  57. MN
Heavy is good.. but needs to be healthy too.. I go with oatmeal and a banana.
  58. celticmusicfan
lots and lots of fruits, milk or oatmeal. i have given up coffee because it causes migrains.
  59. amybyrd21
I skip breakfast most days and cook for my kids. I cooked omelets this morning and I had a veggi omelet. It just depends on my mood I guess.
    1. celticmusicfan
i heard that if you skip breakfast then your metabolism slows down.
    2. amybyrd21
maybe that is why I have a few extra pounds lol
    3. dbowles1017
I don't eat breakfast and my metabolism is still in overdrive.
    4. celticmusicfan
remember that's what i heard doesn't mean it is true.a few extra pounds is ok. it means there is more to love
  60. crpitt
No breakfast, never hungry in the morning.

I don't always eat breakfast but when I do I go all out. Usually corned beef hash, eggs, hashbrowns, toast and possibly a pancake. Probably why I don't eat breakfast all the time mine is heart attack on a plate
    1. Stillthinking
Ooh, I love corned beef hash. I never allow myself to have it though.
    2. crpitt
      corned beef hash for breakfast???????
    3. Stillthinking
It's a breakfast food here. Staple of family style diners everywhere.
    4. crpitt
We have it for tea here, huge plates of it
    5. chicky401
It's the only thing I order for breakfast when I eat in a diner Waffle House is a different story though but I get breakfast there at 11 PM. I tell myself when I go to a diner that I will try something different for breakfast but never happens, my friends can order for me without asking LOL!
    6. crpitt
It is on my list to try next year and I shall compare to the UK stuff
    7. chicky401
I didn't try it when I was in UK to let you know if it is worth it compared to what you have Gotta say tho if you come out this way and see a Waffle House (and honestly I don't think they have the corned beef hash or haven't had it there) you have to try them. They have good waffles with nicely warmed up syrup and a variety of stuff to get on your hash browns. Even their lunch food comes with a waffle
  63. SyilingPeringatan
    Malaysia Favorite B'fast

    - Nasi Lemak (rice with cocunat milk)
    - Roti Cana (bread)
  64. trailofpen
Usually a peanut butter and bannana sandwich on whole grain bread and a glass of water with a multi-vitamin and maybe an apple. Or, some strawberries and pineapple and save the multivitamin for later. Also, pineapple and peanut butter is the most horrid pairing on the planet. I dare you to eat pineapple and then eat some peanut butter afterwards, seriously!
