I do, but I try not to make it look cluttered with it.
How do you guys do with it? I dont do much at all.
How do you get people to click on them?

Adsense for blogs stinks. It doesn't work and will at best make you a few pennies. In exchange for those few pennies it junks up your blog and makes it look spammy and unattractive.

    My 2 cents.

I'd recommend that you analyze your ad placement, and other factors.

I'm getting clicks from the ads that are very adequate, by my standards. I was working with direct mail ("junk mail," when done by amateurs), and use response rates from that industry as a guide.

In other words, if 1% of visitors click an ad, you're getting pretty good response. If click rate goes above 3%, have a party: you've got a winner!

AdSense has a pretty good set of help pages: including a "heat map" to guide ad placement. Guide, not dictate: I avoid the best ad placement spots, because my designs use that part of the page for other purposes.

How do you get people to click on them?

You shouldn't really try to get people to click on your ads - you'll get in trouble! But, if you have adsense .. it's really about traffic generation, because generally people will end up clicking ads in an usual rate per thousand impressions as you see in your adsense account. You don't need a lot of ads, just presense.

If I may make a suggestion, you suggest that your ads do not look cluttered, but it is. Not only that - google adsense ads are supposed to be more or less content oriented, and the way you are placing your "About" section at the top of the main content area is just ruining your chances for relevant ads. You probably notice the same type of ads all the time - that's not good you know. I'd move it over to the sidebar, and remove that block below the ads. In fact, I would eliminate all adsense in the sidebar too.

What I would suggest is a 468x60 under the permalink title, a 336x280 just before the comments, replace your tagline ("We are all about cats, their health and welfare and animal rescue. We do not tolerate abuse!") with a link-unit ... and either move your tagline to the top right blank spot of your header or find a new image and shrink it to about 1/2 the width. I think if your content is closer to the top and above the fold and start to get relevant ads, you might get some action - all you need is the traffic.

anyway, that's just i.m.h.o. of course.

thank you, but im a little confused with some of the lingo your telling me, like what is permalink?
    2. Norski
What PetLvr said. That's good advice.
  3. tamalds
Im a new blogger and found that 468x60 ads give 5-10 cents per click, but 336x280 ads give 30-40 cents per click. It depends on the ad, keyword and bid. I get 1 click per 60 impressions.

It is not essential for you to earn in the begining of blogging, you focus on your traffic. When traffic will come, clicks will give you a great money.
    1. Norski
I don't have the same numbers, but I've noticed a similar pattern.

I use a mix of 468x60, 336x280, and other ads: partly for page design reasons, mostly to make sure that I don't exclude a potentially profitable ad of 'another' size.

thats a information which have to be researched
  4. footiam
I think so but don't give much thought to it.
  5. WryBeauty
Yes I do, but it doesn't do much at all. It's actually quite frustrating because I have all these ads taking up space that don't do much for me financially.
  6. tfgblog
Nop I removed Adsense from my blog and it's cleaner like that: www.tfgblog.com
  7. gmoney
yes I do have adsense on my blogs and if I bloged more I would make more money
  8. dreesyach
    Only Google adsense
am not trying hard to get some money from blogging.
  9. app2usadvisor
    Yes I have it.
  10. Profitline
Adsense is just a part of monetizing your blog, so remember not to clutter your contents with too many ads.
  11. umesh
Have google adsense in post body.
    blog-traffic-guide.blogspot.com/2007/09/how-to-add-google-adsense-in-post-b...
Match adsense background color with your blog background color.
Build traffic .You can have 2% to 3% CTR. i.e. 2 to 3 clicks per 100 pageviews.
  12. boazstuff
I have but it's not working well for me yet. Not much clicks... I prefer using leaderboard. I like to use adtoll as there's more graphics but it gives $$ per click.
  13. pinayblogger
yep.. but i revamped the site and move it around a bit so it doesnt look so cluttered..i like the small link ads though dunno if that can earn me some $.
  14. douglaslampi
I have minimal google ads on my Internet Marketing Blogs, but some other topics lend themselves well to text ads like adsense.

However, I'm stepping away from the "advertising supported free content" business model.

    Free Radio vs Sirius
    Free TV vs HBO
News Clips of The Fight vs PayPerView

Free crappy content vs organized, ad-free paid membership sites.

The blog part of each site is always free, and serves each 'establishment' like a newstand or a barbershop nearby where people can gather and chat about things. But the real content, the real money in publishing online, is within a paid membership area.
  15. goddessecouture
I have mine worked into the content pretty smoothly, I think. I very much like the relevant content provided by Google for the ads too. To tell the truth, I wish I COULD click on them for myself just to get to the content in them! I'm getting a fairly good click-thru on it - probably for that reason.
  16. ahampa
I'm going to add it today. It will bring you some serious cash. My neighbor uses it and makes some decent money.
  17. ahampa
thanks for all of the great help guys...
  18. happyfoodgirl
I had adsense and than removed it. It didn't make sense to me since my page is relatively new. I'm waiting till I generate some decent traffic to my page ^_^
  19. PuneetSeo
i have placed few Adsense on my blog as to keep it clean but mostly i use them on my sites with good traffic
  20. hwchua
i had adsense in my blog
    citycorner135.blogspot.com
but i did not get even 1 cent
    1. latinocool79
did you work on it a lot?
  21. xorsyst
Success with Adsense = traffic, plain and simple. If you don't have a decent level of traffic, you probably won't make much with adsense. Im not trying to put anyone off of trying adsense on their blog, because sometimes it works out well. The topic of your blog weighs in heavily tho. If your blog targets something popular (keyword wise), it will make more from adsense. My main blog is on Japan, and Japanese related topics. Keyword wise, it doesn't rank high. with 2000+ impressions a day, I make around $5.
  22. latinocool79
Why do some people worry so much about cluttering. You can only use a certain number of adsense boxes anyway and unless you are very bad at designing you shouldn't have any problems. Another thing to add. Putting ads benefits the reader. You guys think they see the ad and say " Holy crap another ad, oh well, i gotta click it" no way, they click it because it was useful to them. These ads are links remember. They bring depth to your page. Then I find people who always post saying you can't make bucks with adsense in a blog. If you see this it just refelcts what kind of person they are. I mean, if you don't want to monetize then that is fine. But if you do not do it cuz you think it is useless but deep inside you wish you made bucks then you just do not have what it takes. I have a blog which I started 6 months ago. I made 0.01 cent the first month. Now I make over 200 have over 40 thousand visits a month (and I don't use Technoraty, digg, or get no clicks from StumbleUpon)and I think I can double this in 6 months. I did not know crap about search engine optimization, was lost on scripts and was a complete noob in blogging. I learned by just surfing the web and my golly I have learned so much that I just need more time to write more. So, if you think it is a waste of time to try to get money from blogging then you just don't want it so much or maybe you just want to write for fun (and I think this is awesome). But as I see it, why not give your audience more info and links and get some petty cash. I do not see this as a job. I truly have fun with it and now, I earn a minimun wage in Peru (yeah it sounds bad but in China I heard it is like 90 bucks). But, you gotta know your audience and you have to discover your passion and see if there is demand on the net for it. CHEERS
  23. nardeeisms
I had it ,but just recently (this morning) removed it because of offensive content. Not sure how I generated it, but it showed up just the same. I'll let it (as well as myself) cool down a bit and give it another chance in a few days to see what happens. If it continues, I will remove it permanently.
  24. angelawd
I was getting all excited about my AdSense earnings, but I just got a note from them saying my account was suspended for click fraud. Wha??? I don't click on my own ads and I only encourage readers to click on links that interest them. It's crazy - now they won't pay me!

    Check out this info: pearlwriting.blogspot.com/2008/03/adsense-craziness.html
    1. mugshot
Unfortunately if you have encouraged readers to click on ads that interest them then this is probably why. TOS says you should not encourage people to click the ads.
    2. angelawd
I guess it's a pretty fine line. The TOS says you can't "request" readers to click on the links. I thought I was just explaining to friends and family that these links are ads about things that might be interesting to them, and if they click on them it will take them to products or services websites. I don't know if that is a problem for Adsense. In fact, they are not even communicating with me.

Lesson to be learned, Adsense users: be very careful about what you do/say with Adsense, because they might suspend your account without explanation. And confiscate your earnings.
  25. DeadRooster
Yes, I have Adsense, but it does nothing.
    1. Norski
      ???

My blogs and websites have relatively low traffic - and still generate revenue.

      It's not that I don't believe you. It's just a surprise.

AdSense may not be for you - it's sensitive to content, so if your posts don't have 'useful' keywords, you might want to look at an advertising service that doesn't pay attention to what's on your blog(s).
  26. whojaybe
Here's the thing about Adsense, the more search engine traffic you get, the more you'll probably get those ads clicked.

A lot of people don't do well with Adsense, especially the fact that people never make it to the $100 mark. I would go with another source, personally, or at least use different ways of making money rather than just that one source.
  27. Norski
I'm going to repeat a point made by latinocool79 earlier:

Following AdSense limits on how many units are allowed, a blogger or webmaster has to work at it to get a 'cluttered' look. It can be done, though.
  28. TheSmallBizGuru
To date, I have chosen not to. I am working on building my site and building the foundations. Once I have more traffic, people posting, and overall more hits, I will go after specific companies or ideally, they will come to me.

I want to have control over the ads. With ad-sense, the basic stuff is some-what random and 'cheapens' one's site.

    ~The GURU
  29. Luna123
How do you think mine look on my site. I am the origianl poster.
Some days I get 2 clicks andthen maybe 5 days will go by before I get another click. My site gets about 50 unique visits a day.
  30. EcoInsomniac
I am running google adsense even though my blog is only a month old. I figured that readers shouldn't come to expect an ad free blog and then one day find ads where there wasn't any before. Basically, I'm hoping my content is good enough that they believe I deserve some money for my efforts.
  31. tiggyblog
Is there any type of blog site that Adsense wouldn't work on? My latest site's subject matter is humourous and 'random' to say the least. I'm not sure whether it would feel 'right'. On the other hand I don't want to starve for my art...
    1. angelawd
Who knows? There are all types of advertisers. Write what you love, the money will follow somehow!

By the way, can't stop laughing since I visited your blog!!!
    2. Norski
This is a bit self-serving, but you could check out what AdSense looks like on a rather random blog here: apatheticlemming.blogspot.com/ .

I wouldn't worry about it. AdSense is pretty good about picking out significant keywords from what you right. I've been a little surprised at the results sometimes, but it does seem to work.

UPDATE - I've seen your blog. IMHO, AdSense should work pretty well. I'm switched if I know what the software will make of "piggle," but that's Google's problem.
  32. tiggyblog
    I suppose it's worth a try!
I assume you're laughing 'with' and not 'at' me, heheh...
    1. angelawd
Of course! I'm going back to have another laugh with you now.
  33. maneja81
AdSense Sucks! I hit the close button as soon as I see more than one or two units on a site.
  34. goddessecouture
I make a point of clicking an ad when I visit a blog. Nobody asked me to, so nobody's violating TOS. I'm just nice.
    1. PetLvr
Well .. I guess so, if you believe that. Just don't log into your google adsense account because your IP is registered to every click you made, and when you log into your google adsense account #3451265361488432 and the IP's match your history of fraudulent clicking, they will not only close you down on your one blog, but all blogs. I suppose if you aren't making much on adsense, you have nothing much to lose.
  35. rileycentral
Not anymore. I make more money on PPP and other sponsored platforms. Even though I get 200 unique hits a day, I never get more than 25 cents or so a day so i dumped those ugly thangs. This is the second time I bailed on Adsense. Hope it lasts this time. Seems like unless you get like 1000 uniques a daym it's just a pipe dream.

I'd be impressed if Google thought I was significant enough to notice. And if they shut me down, I doubt anyone will miss my opinions anyway.
