Recently, just having a kid, my time management skills have been pushed to the brink. My "5-a-week" workouts have now been reduced to "3-a-week" ones. However, I have managed to still build muscle and keep the weight off. Here is what I have done...
1. Increased my intensity- Before the baby, I had one long, leisurely three hour run. Now, that isn't possible. My gym workout has to be condensed but just as effective. Solution? High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).
2. Watch what I eat more closely- If you workout daily, you don't have to spend as much time watching what you eat. When the baby came, my workouts decreased but my food intake stayed the same. The result was I gained 5 extra pounds within a month.
Now I watch what I eat. I stay away from the carbs that I used to load up on for my long runs and started eating more vegetables (like broccoli and spinach) and more protein (like eggs, fish and beans).
As a result, I have lost the weight I initially put on AND can eat as much as my tummy can hold.
3. Replaced my isolated weightlifting routine with multi-muscle workouts- I haven't done a bicep curl in months. Instead, I opt to get the most bang for my buck. Squats (like single leg body weight squats and overhead squats), Burpees, incline bench press with dumbells all supply me with a grueling workout that workouts a wide range of muscles. I also do them in a circuit. -
I just made a post about this, actually...how my laptop and blogging helps me lose weight.

when I was married I worked out 2 times a day for a total of 3 hours. 6 days a week. Now that I am back into the single parent thing again, I am down to after kids are in bed, dishes are done, laudry put away, toilet scrubbed, dinner put away, driveway shoveled, etc... I think I am down to about 3 hours a week.

tricky.... I know i should be making time for a bit of keep fit but my daily routine is up at 6.30am, shower, shave work by 7.45am, don't move much from desk till home time of 6 - 6.60pm. Get home, sit and catch up with partner for 10 mins then eat evening meal, do dishes, switch on laptop and do Fabulous Photo Gifts web amends etc - then bed (and sleep like a baby).
When do i fit in keep fit?????? the odd night i don't open the laptop and we sit on acomfy sofa and watch a hour telly i'm just too knackered anyway.
Weekends is catching up on a weeks worth of housework, more fab photo's and some time with the kids... not to mention shopping for food and taxi-ing teenagers all over the county.
Inclicnation yes - time no!

For me it's no problem to make time at least 4 times a week for an hour, as I need to de-stress, and hitting a punch bag or shadow boxing works for me.
But I find combat conditioning / power yoga / bodyweight exercises give me an all round fitness and help repair the bits I damage through more brutal exercise. As there is no equipment needed, can do it anywhere you have enough floor to lie down on. -
I go for a nature hike just about every day, but it's more for my mind than my body. I get decent exercise with all the climbing though.

I used to think I didn't have time.
Funny, that's back when I was a rail with boobs.
Now... I make time. I go work out almost every day for at least an hour. I don't want to wind up with Richard Simmons paying me a visit on national tv as they bring in a bobcat to tear down my wall to pull my rotund ass out.

If anyone is looking for short duration high intensity ideas -
Skipping = all round body exercise, great for toning and cardio. It's a killer and there are many different variations of movement to make it challenging.
Hill sprints = running for 15 minutes, doing hill sprints (sprint up like an insane person, jog down) will enable production of human growth hormone and increase overall fitness, and not damage you like running long distances - start gently and work up to it. -
i live in nyc so i do a ton of walking from place to place (and love it) so i never have to do any formal gym membership.

I can say everyone actually have to time. The only problem is do they really take the time to keep fit. I really don't have time, after working back home feel tired. The only time is on week end.

You should find if you do some exercise - even low impact, like yoga, or a good stretch - that you will oxygenate your blood and you will gradually feel more alive and more energetic each evening / morning.
It's getting over that impulse to sit down when you get home and doing at least 10 minutes of something before hand.....

Yes, I go to gym every morning.
The only time that is really free for exercise is early in the morning. Every other part of the day there is a reason not to go: too tired or there is something else to do. In the early morning there is only one thing: I want to sleep. If you can't beat it (like my girlfriend) - tough. -

Nothing wrong with you at all, unless it is that you want to exercise but can't get motivated? No one has to do it, apart from those instructed by a doctor...
but if you want to but can't get started, try doing small things that require no real effort (like trekking to a gym or changing clothes or booking a class) when you feel energetic. Like a brisk walk, or a few sit-ups and pressups. Or put some records on and dance like a lunatic or play air guitar (when no ones watching)... or have strenuous s.e.x....as that is exercise too! Shadow boxing after watching a boxing match is good fun for a few minutes. Skipping rocks. Even deep breathing can be a great workout when done right.
That activity will oxygenate your blood and hopefully give you an endorphin rush that should help programme yourself to be more receptive to more exercise. Doing it alone, may help you if you feel self conscious with others watching. But also someone cheering you on - like a training partner - may help if you need geeing up.
Just don't set yourself unrealistic goals or try too much too soon, as that will put you off or cause an injury. A few minutes here and there, at first should do it.

I am in two competitions to loss some weight. One with my husband to see who can drop 10 pounds first. The second is at work which will start next week. I am pretty good about working out, 45-60 minutes 5x week. But it is my eating that is the issue. I need to clean up my eating in order to really see results. That is why my blog seems to focus so much on eating.

Up until recently I've been working out only late afternoons, alternating days with weights and HIIT, but wanting to introduce another daily session, and not finding the time. So I worked the afternoon sessions a bit harder, started going to bed an hour earlier, woke up an hour earlier, and now I fit in a nice run in the morning also... This early morning run is what is putting me miles ahead now, for the rest of the day's doings... :-)

Everyone has time to keep fit! You just have to either sucrifice some sleep time (excersize before work, 6am-7.30am) or TV time (after work, 6pm onwards)

I walk while listening to music. i also walk after work. i used to go clubbing because i love to dance but it isn't possible with my job nowadays.
