A number of studies state that physically attractive people have more success in their career than their less attractive counterparts.

Although I guess that not a lot of people will admit this in public, I suppose we all have prejudices and tend to judge someone by how they look.

In the blogging scene, there are tons of people with fake avatars of attractive models etc. They must hope to, or do experience a benefit coming from this?

So how does this apply for you..?
Do you judge a blog based on how the creator looks?
Are you easier persuaded to follow/support a blog if that particular blogger looks nice?

I guess this is simple biology in a way, but it remains a controversial topic.

Well...the blogs that I read I have no idea what the owners look like. I like a blog if the writing is good and the layout isn't annoying.

I wouldn't say I do. I do like it when a blogger shares their photo simply because it's an added visual connection-- adds a little more reality to the virtual world. But I think of it more like getting to see a radio DJ in person... The face behind the "voice."

"AH, so that's what they look like!"

It depends on why the creator chose his avatar. I have already explained why I chose mine so I won't repeat fully but even if it isn't your true visual face, it reflects something you want to convey.

One of my avatar is the world because I am opened to all people in all continents, another is an african child because though I am not african at all, I feel terribly concerned by what is happening in poor countries or poor people in our own countries.

certainly not, but sometimes by the way the blog looks

However it does looks like that bloggers here with "beautiful" avatars have more success than those who don't

      define success...
    2. xnapoleonx
I guess that's personal, but I'd say more reach/traffic/readers/followers/.. whatever their goal might be

Yeah...but some of the most lucrative blogs are just stolen material and adverts...it's a confusing thing to judge. I mean, spammers must be getting lots of hits or they wouldn't bother...but that doesn't mean spamming is the way to go.

I show my real face on my About page but I really don't think the blogger's actual real looks have any measure. If they did all those guys with hot girl avatars would be swimming in riches and that's not generally the case.
  7. amazings
    no.
    i judge by content
  8. Sebastyne
Yes and no. I "judge" people by the way they look, but I don't expect them to look like models. I know that online it is hard to convince people that you're using your own photo if you look too good, so model imago doesn't always work to your favour.

Don't use Napoleo Avatar on French Forums, though I don't care as for me, many french people hate Napoleo

Haha, good one. I can imagine. Does it still lives that much with them?
  11. peenkfrik
I guess the blog content matters more than how the blogger looks like.
  12. WhiteSockGirl
No, not the appearance of the creator (don't trust pics on the internet anyway) but I do judge appearances of blogs... If the 'cover' of the blog does not appeal to me,... I am out of there before you can say 'content'. I am superficial like that.

IF I looked as lovely as Thrift Shop, Sebastyne, Time Thief, White Sock Girl and some of our other friends in these dicussions, yes I would use my picture. But, the Count looks like an old, unmade dog bed, so he uses a drawing to avoid driving away the more sensitive of our discussion groups. I could use a picture of myself at 35 with my Van Dyke beard, but that would really be cheating. So, yes, a good picture or avatar can help a blog or even in a discussion group like this. Personally, I think a good cat photo helps too. Count Sneaky

    yes, absolutely.

I judge the blog appearance and content. I don't usually judge the avatar or photos of the blogger but there is one exception. if I discover that the blogger behind a sexy female avatar is a male I'm not impressed with their opportunistic choice.
  16. tkwi
No way. No how. I look at the post titles and see if they are interesting instead.
  17. xnapoleonx
Haha count sneaky, I love your avatar though!
  18. countsneaky
My avatar is an old, anonoymous Victorian steel engraving not nearly as exciting as your famous Bonaparte. But thanks. Count Sneaky

So that's why no one ever visits my blog!

I have had people visit and some judge my blog by it's appearance. I believe a person should not be judge by their appearance nor should their blog. They should be judged by the content of their heart or in the case of a blog the words. What might appear beautiful or handsome outwardly could be a jerk inside.

This avatar is me. Do you like the brains I added with Photoshop? I like juice. Why aren't my comments showing up? Am I not beautiful enough for BC anymore?
    1. onceafortnight

    2. xnapoleonx
Haha, I kind of thought that too

I can be attracted by appearance but content is what keeps me there.

"So is it YOUR appearance, Ralph, that attracts viewers," the Muse asks. "And the CONTENT that keeps 'em from hanging around?" She smiles as she asks. I know the smile. Just an edge away from a smirk. I don't bother to answer.
