Think about it. How many times a day do you tell a lie? Do you tell white lies, lies to protect someone, lies to make yourself look better or lies about how much money you make blogging?

I have recently begun totally trying not to say even a little white lie and it is actually very hard.

Do you think that in today's society lying has just become common place? We all want more, want to seem better than we are so we lie to make up our own reality which we hope others will accept.

Has lying taken the place of accepting who and where you are in your life? Is there mistrust because of lies from the media, government and even your family and friends?

Just wonderin'...

    yup, I lie a lot
    1. environmentalbooty
Why? Oh and I love oyur avater.
    2. anthony9910
Why? Because it's natural to us to lie, we are beings created from a lie, "Bible", so I guess it's normal, and I usually lie about small stuff!
  2. DailyBeerReview
I lie a lot too. Except when it comes to what beer I like and don't like, I tell it straight up. That and I don't lie to my family ever.
  3. nothingprofound
    Only when I talk.
    1. environmentalbooty
Seriously? So oyu are constantly creating a life which perhaps isn't really based on fact, but simply based all on fiction? Do you feel it is better to live life that way?
    2. nothingprofound
My life is true, only the words are false.
  4. TCblogger
Sometimes a lie when the truth wouldn't make that much more difference in the circumstance. Then I tell the truth later and it's no big deal. But I feel compelled to tell the truth like what time I did the laundry.
    1. environmentalbooty
What is it that compells you to tell the truth?
  5. owlbarn
Only if it doesn't hurt someone and makes someone happy
    1. environmentalbooty
But isn't that creating a false reality for that person?
    2. owlbarn
Is it wrong to tell someone that 'everything will be alright' when we are not sure that it will actually be?
    3. environmentalbooty
OwlBarn, I actually do think it is not okay to tell people all will be well when you do not know that it will be. I find ways to assure those around me without that lie or I tell them that it may not be today or tomorrow but someday their pain will lessen in some way.

every one tells some form of lie. It all depends on why and what you are lying about. I try not to lie but if I gt asked to do something I dont want to and I know that that person wont take no for an answer then I lie.
  7. Stillthinking
No, I am actually really bad at lying. Plus, I'm lazy. Lying takes so much work to keep up. It's easier to tell the truth and just deal with whatever the consequences are.

It's really infuriating to me actually when people lie for convenience.
    1. environmentalbooty
I giess I am super sensitive to this b/c I was raised by an almost pathalogical liar. SHe would have me lie for her or wrap me into her lies...still tries to but she has learned i will not stand for it anymore.
  8. dbowles1017
yes. See that was a lie right there
    1. Stillthinking
      What makes you think that?
    2. dbowles1017
Because I dont lie. And by saying I do lie, is a lie. therefore I am a liar, but im really not.
    3. Stillthinking
      Huh?

See, this is why I don't lie. Too much work. Plus, what's the point of lying to people online? I don't really care what any of you think of me.

You all knew I was unemployed for 8 months and that I am total loser.
    4. dbowles1017
I said Yes. I lie. But that was a lie, because I don't lie. I don't know how you could have gotten confused.

"Power don't come from a badge or a gun.
    Power comes from lying.
Lying big, and gettin' the whole damn world to play along with you.
Once you got everybody agreeing with what they know in their hearts ain't true, you've got 'em..
I could pump you full of bullets right now, and I wouldn't even be arrested.
Everyone would lie for me -everyone who counts."

But I agree the opposite situation.

      Power comes from the truth.

Liars need to have an excellent memory, so it's easier to be honest.

I'm normally too straightforward, so sometimes I have to stop myself and tell a little white lie to keep the peace. I do omit certain things sometimes, I guess that's a form of lying?
    1. Stillthinking
This must be why I like you. I prefer people who are a bit blunt.
    2. aspotofblog
Thanks. However, a lot of people don't appreciate it. But it's just the way I am. They can take it or leave it.
    3. environmentalbooty
You wanna meet blunt, meet my husband. Some of my friends cannot take even being around him. There is a way to be honest, sincere and kind...isn't there?
  11. trailofpen
Our truths are only based on what we know and not what we don't. I've never lied to anybody. What they know is truth to them because I make it true.
    1. aspotofblog
That's a form of 'twisting the truth'. Haha.
    2. trailofpen
Nah, it's called making the truth.
    3. environmentalbooty
This is exactly what I am referring to when I say creating your own reality. Easier to take life that way huh?
  12. jonyx
Have I told a lie in the past? I'm sure it's happened. Nowadays I lie but only to my partner who knows I'm lying (he proceeds with saying bs meter just went through the roof, etc). Otherwise, I have trouble actually wanting to lie to protect anyone because I don't see any point in it. My few friends and family know me for being blunt and honest, whether or not it may hurt someone's feelings. Why be offended by an opinion you were asking for anyway?

I do that because I would want everyone else to be as straightforward with me as they can.
  13. ToughCookieMommy
I hate liars so I work very hard to tell the truth most of the time. Hey, I'm only human...
    1. environmentalbooty
My philosophy as well. It's like you never know who knows who or when you will get trapped in a your own web of lies eh?
  14. environmentalbooty
BTW, does anyone know if there are really ways to fool a lie detector?
    1. trailofpen
Stay calm and keep your nerves under control. Meditate like a monk, or like you are doing yoga.
  15. HandmadeByAnnabell
I just watched that show "Lie to Me" and it creaps me out! He can look at your face and know by a certain twitch or scratch that you lied. SPOOKY!
    1. environmentalbooty
Life would be easier if we all cam e equippes with a lie meter.
  16. drjay1966
    I'm lying right now.
    1. environmentalbooty
Glad to know you are honest.
    2. trailofpen
You're lying about lying. What a liar!
  17. Shiley
Yes, there is a Santa and a Tooth Fairy. Outside of that I am horrible at lying.
    1. environmentalbooty
Recently I had to tell my 9 year old that there is no Santa Claus bc i just could not lie to her anymore. I think there is something wrong with me.
    2. Shiley
No, I think at some point it's inevitable.
    3. environmentalbooty
I know Shiley but I just do not think she was ready to hear it. I just could not lie to her anymore!
    4. Bullgrit
Are Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny really "lies"? In the sense of this discussion? If they are considered "lies," then how about magic tricks, fiction literature, and mocumentaries?
  18. realltv

To lie or not to lie..that depends on the question- SOrcerer
    1. environmentalbooty
So you only lie when asked certain questions? or are you just being cute with that reply? Which was actually pretty cute.
  21. marcusmarcus
    I'll be lying if i say i don't!
  22. farhan833
    May Be............!!!!!!
  23. blackwater
    Everyone lies, it's human nature.
    1. environmentalbooty
You seriously think it is human nature?
  24. BlogDogW2
When I am in my suit at work no I do not lie. And I have worn my suit for seven months for the specific job and take honesty very, very seriously.
  25. Bullgrit
    Do I lie?

    Nope.

    Honesty makes life easier.
  26. MissSuzie
    No, I am brutally honest.
  27. Funkkeejooce
Those who know me well say I am a terrible liar because I rarely lie. When I lie, I get my stories all mixed up and I stress up a lot which is bad for my skin. When I’m stressed, my skin goes all blotchy. So....lies is not worth it for me, unless it is a must to protect or keep a secret.
  28. vmaster
One man's lie is another man's truth? Does it really matter?
  29. jasonthebaldguy
I actually cannot lie... I can try.. but I have never... ever gotten away with it...I think its psychological from my childhood. The funny thing is that I can't even just leave out the truth, and my wife knows it... so when she asks me something all she has to do is sit there for a second and I will spill it all!
    1. Cindi
Me too! I'm a horrible liar and everybody knows it. White lies are ok, but I prefer to tell the truth in a kind and gentle way when my opinion is called for in a delicate matter.
  30. BrianPhillips
Maybe I'm just sneaky. I try not to lie (not saying I don't), but I tend to misdirect, or frame things in a way that suits whatever situation best.

Maybe it comes from having been a copywriter (spin-doctor) for a few years - or maybe I was drawn to that because of my misdirecting tendencies.

Don't know if that's good or bad.
  31. nothingprofound
As soon as someone says they're honest I know they're lying.
    1. jasonthebaldguy
geez thats nothing profound at all (I am sure that has already been done here before but I couldn't resist it)
