I've just watched Ghost In The Shell and it's a damn good film, considering all forms of movie art, not just drawn. I was wondering how many people like anime..what are your favorites? Can you recommend me some good ones?

I've watched Berserk, Mononoke, Little Chichiro, Flying Castle and some other...

    Trigun all the way

Trigun is my favorite. Right now we're in the midst of S-Cry-Ed, which is certainly holding our interest but we're only on the second disc, so who knows? Samurai Champloo was fantastic, along with a bunch of the others already mentioned. The kids have watched Record of Lodoss War and Ergo Proxy about a dozen times, by now, since they're the only two whole series that we own. Netflix is my friend.

I love anime, too. Hubby and I got into it back in the 1980's when it was very hard to find in the USA. A friend who moved from Japan got us hooked. We had to drive into Little Tokoyo (Los Angeles) to a store called Pony-Toy-Go-Round to get VHS's. We have Vampire Hunter D in both Japanese and English. One very good flick is Akira. Hubby has: Macross (Super Dimenisional Fortress) Dont get the Americanzied version- Carl Macek ruined it, Big O, Last Exile, Wolf's Rain, Gantz, Ghost in a Shell, Texhn-Lyze, Captain Herlock, Witch Hunter Robin, Banner of the Stars, Neon Genesis Evangelion and more.

Oh, I fogot about Wolf's Rain! We have that series, too. What did you think of Appleseed (the first one - the second one wasn't as interesting).

I haven't watched many, but what I have seen I really enjoyed, especially the Studio Ghibli stuff.

Spirited away was excellent and the music is lovely.

We have everything from Ghibli. Got Totoro about 20 years ago!

Ah, My Neighbor Totoro was the first Ghibli movie I ever saw. Everything they do (especially Miyazaki's work) is great.

I used to be big into anime, but I've forgotten most of the things that I liked.

I had an interesting talk about them with JD aka techfun, about how they are good for little girls to watch because the females characters are usually strong and in no need of rescuing from prince charming.

anyone here who likes macross frontier ?
    1. busylizzy
      my hubby does!

I liked Full Metal Alchemist and Bassilisk.

Among the full-length films I liked are Akira (one of my favourite movies ever) and Ninja Scroll.
    1. busylizzy
      love Akira!

Love anime...I own the DVD set of 'Hellsing'. It's about this vampire who kills other vampires for some secret organization in Britian. Weird stuff!

Ninja Scroll & Ghost in the Shell...own VHS copies of those too! I use to work in a video store, so it was easy to make copies.
    1. flamingpoodle
      Ooh yeah Hellsing was awesome!

Any comments on a very weird show called BOBOBO? I think the writers were stoned when they came up with their scripts!
    1. sensico
what? you dont like BoBoBo, I find it extremely entertaining but the narrator in the opening can be rather talkative.
    2. busylizzy
I like BOBOBO because it's so crazy and unpredictable. Just wish the characters didn't yell so much.
  14. Norski
Depends. Speed Racer, the older series, was my among my first experiences.

It took me years to realize that some anime had more entertainment potential than a good root canal procedure.

Now, I like some series: Ghost in the Shell; Inuyasha; Bleach; and others.

thank you all for great recommendations!
  16. roguedeals
I've already said Trigun but two others I really love are Cowboy Beebop and Outlaw Star

Some anime is just horrible. I like the good stuff. ha.
  17. maccallister
    I love naruto and avatar
  18. vulpine
In a word: Yes. Except for some of the full-time 'chibi' stuff, there is little anime I don't enjoy.
  19. mitayashi
    lol, yeah i love anime.
  20. pandanartrepublic
    definitely..naruto,ninja scroll,spriggan,vampires;the last blood,princess of mononoke,spirit away,apple seed,memories,and lots more..
  21. ravensin
Definitely. Anime and manga are love. In fact, I like it so much, I created a blog for manga reviews.

I would recommend Death Note for psychological action like Ghost in the Shell. Naruto and Bleach are action-packed Dragon Ball Z kind of thing. One Piece is a comedic action series, you'll love the insane characters if you can get past the different art style.

Since you've watched the Flying Castle and Mononoke, does that mean you're also interested in romance anime? There are quite a few exceptional, too, but most of them are better in manga than in anime.

If you like the definitely out of this world anime, try Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. That'll drive you bananas.

Why not? It is quite funny!
  28. CentricStudios
I used to be a big Speed Racer fan as a kid, but I never got into anime much after that.
