I have to say I think country music is one of the few genres that I don't like, I don't know why. Give me reggae and funk soul anyday!
  4. Floormodel
I like the classic country songs by artists like Don Williams, George Jones, Tom T. Hall, Lefty Frizzel, Kitty Wells, etc.
    1. dcarroll
      Good choices.

    taylor swift & carrie underwood!

I actually cannot get into country, it is one of the only genres that I cannot take. I do however like one country song, the theme for True Blood, Jase Everett's Bad Things. That song is extraordinarily sexy to me for some reason.

I love country music. It's always been my favorite. I have too many favorite artists to name them all:

Reba, Wynonna, Tanya Tucker, Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Kenney Chesney, etc. etc.
  8. jeremyjanson
I love older country (mostly before the 80's) and folk music.

    Eagles country stuff
    Dolly Parton
    Loretta Lynn
    Johnny Cash
John Stewart (not to be confused with Jon Stewart, "California Bloodlines") & the Kingston Trio
    Neil Young

"A boy named Sue", "The devil went down to Georgia" and "MTA"

Among more recent groups, probably Reba would be my favorite.

      Kingston Trio???
They are great. I have a vinyl album of them, but the needle on my turntable has crapped out.
Wow. Kingston Trio. Great group. (Weren't there three of them? )
    2. Floormodel
dcarrol, you can get needles on ebay for pretty cheap.

I can't say that I like ALL country music.

On one hand, I intensely dislike the twangy, nasal kind that's always on the same old same old breaking up and making up themes. [she rolls her eyes]

On the other, I do like some American country music like the Eagles' music, and some Canadian country music such as the music of Blue Rodeo. Example: Bulletproof www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3RVrQlmLRI

i am exploring country...though i used to grind my teeth to it.
    1. timethief
      @celticmusicfan
Most of it makes me grind my teeth.
When it comes on the radio in the studio Beloved and I often trip over each other when running to reach the kill switch.
    2. jeremyjanson
The problem with country is that there is really good country, really bad country, and nothing in between. Unfortunately, country music stations never got that memo.
    3. celticmusicfan
@TT wow you remind me of what I used to do when R&B music comes on.
  12. HollytheHousewife
I love alllllllll music, yes even country. I take that back,I don't like that RAGE,

        www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KMriSdmr5I
    2. SweetViolet
Oh, the Judds are good. A mother-daughter duo. They do a lot of finger-snapping, toe-tapping music.
  15. HollytheHousewife
I just got on a country music kick, here lately, that's so weird that this thread popped up
  16. Frosty78
My favorites are mostly from the 70's and early 80's.

Eddie Rabbitt, Ronnie Milsap, The Statler Brothers, The Oak Ridge Boys
  17. acousticguitarist
i like the guitar players an some of the session players

    I particularly like bluegrass

Did you know that there are more suicides by people who listen to country music than any other style, it could be because with some other styles people are too stoned to think about it.

The core of country music is Celtic music. There was a wonderful doco called Irish Music in America (or something similar), Pete Seeger did some great comparisons between blues and Irish music in relation to folk/ country.

Tim O'Brien has the best voice, Jerry Douglas best Resonator Slide and Tony Rice Beest Guitar.

You know what was sensational, Dan Hill's first album and also Hold On

I view music how I view sex....I'll accept it from any source if it's done right and won't leave me feeling itchy.
  19. celticmusicfan
i agree that Celtic music spawned blue grass but before i knew that..when i was still in my high school years i didn't get much into country.

I like some country. I like classic country like Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton (Jolene!).

As far as current country, I love Allison Krauss. She is amazing.

I love Pasty Cline's music and her voice.

Many women have thin vocal chords and that makes them sopranos. My mom is a first soprano. I'm a mezzo soprano. I can sing the first soprano range but it's not my preference. I'd rather sing the lower and richer parts in the alto range and I can also sing the higher notes in the contralto range too.

I love to mimic the deep rich tone of Pasty Cline's voice. In fact I'm doing that now as I type. My parents had these records and I remember them from when I was just a little tot. I just discovered them on youtube a month ago or so.
  23. celticmusicfan
    Anne Murray!

    I cried a tear...
    you wiped it dry
    i was confused...
    you cleared my mine...
  24. Stillthinking
I also love folk music like on the "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack. Fantastic.

Yes: but that doesn't mean much. I 'like' any music that's well done. I'm more familiar with Johnny Cash and his generation that the more contemporary singers like Big & Rich - but the new set is quite okay, too.
  26. kat822
Cash is an icon, who doesn't love em,
  27. Simboy
Well, I'm only 16 and from India. (Trust me, Garth Brooks is an alien here.)

So, Old Country is something new to me.

    Any suggestions.?.?
    1. dcarroll
Find Tex Ritter, "Blood on the Saddle," or "I've got spurs that jingle, jangle, jingle."

      THAT'S OLD COUNTRY!
    2. Simboy
I love the music. But, why is he singing it so weird??
  28. kat822
Not a huge fan of it, but I dooooooo love your avatar lol, too cute
  29. thought
mine are don williams, anne murray, kenny rogers, glen campbell and atleast half a dozen more.
  30. londoniscool
I rate Country music as highly as Gangster rap and by that I mean it is totally boring and worthless. It does nothing but send me to sleep and makes me want to smash up my radio when it comes on the airwaves.
    1. SweetViolet
I wonder who you have heard? Most modern country makes me want to dance.
