I had to post in my blog about the zoo today. Yesterday, here in San Francisco, a tiger escaped from her enclosure and killed someone...it was a tragedy for all parties concerned. The victims, the zoo, the city, the tiger...It made me wonder about the necessity of zoos in general. Do you like the zoo?

It is sad that it happened. It isn't the first time though.
If it wasn't for the work that zoos do outside of just showing animals in cages. I would want all zoos banned. However, the breeding programs, wildlife education, and other programs that are meant to help the animals in the wild are important. Plus you can't forget the kids, just the reaction when you let them pet a goat in the children's petting zoo section for the first time is priceless.

There's a video footage of zoo visitors throwing shit at the tiger.
Shortly before the escape/attack.
Tatiana The Tiger was just defending herself.
There are 6 billion people on the planet but only a few tigers.
Humans are roaches. We need justice for the poor animals. -
the parent only thinking about the money they will get with the lawsuit !!
their dead son seem to be a stupid jackass with idiot parents
so this is a darwin award in this case!
Hail Tatiana The Tiger i feel so sorry for the tiger

I personally HATE the Zoo, and encourage all my friends not to go. It is terribly sad to see wild animals confined to even the biggest cages, because frankly-- this is not where they belong. They are not put on this earth for us to "ooohhhh" and "ahhhhh" at, they serve a greater purpose and we are stopping them from doing so.
How would you like it if you were taken from your family in the wild where you had as much space as you could possiby imagine to run, play, hunt etc and were captured and put into a metal cage where people stared at you all day. That would suck wouldnt it?
I think people should stop and think how that animal feels. And yes, they DO have feelings. As far as the Tiger escaping I dont blame it. We set our selves up for disaster. -
i like some zoos. the zoos who work really really hard at making sure there is enough space and that there is natural habitat there (and not just fake habitat) i like. especially the ones where i feel like *I* am in the cage and not the animals. the brookfield zoo in chicagoland does a pretty good job of this with most of their animals. the fort worth zoo does a WRETCHED job of it and i have never seen anything more depressing in my life than the fort worth zoo.

this jaguar did nothing but pace restlessly in an enclosure that was far far too small for the animal. certainly bigger than an old circus wagon cage ... but still, far too small for such an animal.
the brookfield zoo is also doing a lot of work on housing complementary animals together. (monkeys and otters in one area ... and it's a wonderful exhibit ... the littler monkeys travel branches right over your head ... definitely an area where i feel like *i* am in the cage, not them) -
I have very mixed feelings about zoos. You can read comments on my earlier post or click the link on todays post to read all the articles if you want
