The selling point of quite a few bloggers is age, and they flaunt it around as if it makes content better. Would a young blogger who wrote the same content as an older blogger be more entertaining to read for you? Would you be more prone to subscribe to them or visit their blog?

In short, is age an effective gimmick? I'm writing a series about it on Blog Badly (blogbadly.com/blogging-behavior/people-love-reading-young-bloggers-even-if-...)

Oh, BTW, I'm fourteen so SUBSCRIBE TO ME!

I don't care about age. Write stuff that intrigues me and let me know about it, and time permitting I'll be there.

I agree completely with that. There really is no reason to read content because of who someone is. If they write well and it entertains/helps you, then it deserves to be read.

I read a few younger bloggers' posts and some of them seem to not care about grammar and punctuation and stuff... plus, I understand the age thing is a gimmick but when it comes down to it, if the content isn't good, then I probably won't come back.

    I mean, I don't see too many people flaunting they're 70 as a gimmick...

I don't think I've ever seen anyone flaunt their age in a blog, but I've never read a blog by a twelve year old.

carlocab.com does it all the time. It's his tagline, pretty much.

I have seen a few do that, but age doesn't matter as long as the blog is interesting and well written.

Interesting reads is all that is important. Content shared by everyone.

I write a creative blog from a teenager's perspective. I'm actually 21. I flaunt the age the character's meant to be in my blogging name to try and attract younger people. Obviously I'd like to attract older people, or anyone for that matter, but my blog is half to inform younger people of a health condition.

Most of the "young" blogs that bill themselves as "young" blogs tend to suck.

    IMHO of course.

Oh, phew, good thing I don't do that.

Young bloggers always attract me, no matter how suck they are! I admire young people with good insights, especially on the blogosphere.

No matter the upside down thinking, I always enjoy the young bloggers' sortie into the atmosphere of the real world. Sometimes their infinite reasoning probes the borders of realism to the point where it gets downright interesting.

I'm a young blogger myself (20 yrs. old), but often I like to read what everyone has to say. If they write something is productive and grabs my attention, then I probably will continue to read their blog and interact with them. If they "suck" in a certain way, then I may not see that it is worth reading their blog.

It doesn't matter. If you give a kid something to love, to work for it will help bring their grades up and self- confidence.
    1. BlogBadly
Haha, the self-confidence bit I don't know about (I've always been outgoing) but the grades part, well...

I dunno if they've gone up, but it's harder to maintain them while trying to make money online and blog and do all that stuff. I just find the practical aspects of blogging more important than learning sines and cosines Luckily(?) I have parents who kill me if I get less than A's.

My grades sucked like really sucked my broadcast journalism teacher gave me a chance and I brought my grades up to a 3.6 GPA from a 1.4 GPA. I speak from experience. I grew up in a house of domestic violence and no one to care for my grades but a teacher who was in the journalism field did care.

I enjoy reading quality content and something that keeps my interest. If a blog can do that for me, i'll be back.
    1. TigerKelvin
I agree with you on that.

Couldn't agree more with all of that has been said so far. But for me personally; I believe I am obsessed with the age of the author - I wouldn't visit more/less regularly because of age - but it is something I really like to know.

I think this has something to do with my own ambition (desperation?) to achieve greatness whilst young - I am always happier reading about a successful entrepreneur when I find that they are older than myself - pathetic as this may seem.

if the content and language is good, why not?

but the topic is "if they suck". If the blog is good, I don't care much about the age of the writer but if it sucks, it needs to be the suckiest in its class, then I might visit just to see how bad it is. you know, don't settle for mediocrity.
