This is something I have recently got into.
I have made some wooden picture frames and recently I painted a mug with a design for my son, does anyone else do this?

Do you make your own Christmas gift?
Why yes I do and it's delicious, I'll try to save you a slice but I can't guarantee it.

I would like to be crafty so that I could make gifts for others....i tried knitting and i just got tangled up in the yarn....abstract paint would be fun.

yes, made quite a few this year, but it isn't a stretch since doing arts and crafts is my thing I love getting a home made gift (edible included).

I brought a whole heap of wooden boxes burnt a design on them and filled them according to the personality of each friend. One had must have candy on it with a mad face and was filled with chocolate, one had a picture of a friends dog and was filled with dog treats and another had diabetic recipes for a friend recently diagnosed. Easy and personal gift.

      Thankyou Robinj,

I bet your friends loved that, your right, really personal and they would treasure it.

Im a photographer so sometimes will offer a days family portrait for free to some relatives, but that includes frames and prints which are always nice to have!

Trouble is, you can only do that sort of thing once every few years- ha!

What a great talent though. One year my son got photos, and we missed it with our second as the family member changed occupation. I bet you could photograph anything and make it look good though! (are the 2-3 years up, lol)

oops wrong place, but I guess it's okay kiwigal.
well I made these felt birds with odd buttons, a print out of an eye I painted, fabric and paint for friends and some for the gallery.

These two are in the gallery, but I also did one for a friend who wanted something similar. I crushed a pepsi can, gessoed it and used acrylic paint.

I also paint or collage on old vinyl records or discarded cd discs.

Only if the person is really important to me... I usually make or give an original illustration to them... in fact most of my favorite illustrations have been given away as gifts.

If you like you can check them out at:

If the person is just a good friend or someone I know I rather buy something

I've been making "calendars" for more than 20 years for family memebers. They have come to expect them.
Boy those early ones, before photoshopt and calendars programs, were cut and paste and copy. HEHEHHEHE

This year, I have sold a few that fit in CD Jewel Cases...very nice for desks and table tops
