There is no longer an IE for the Mac. it was good way back in the day, but Microsoft discontinued development once Apple's Safari proved itself.
-
Since there is "official" IE for Linux, I stick to Firefox and Opera. I I have a jury rigged version of IE (www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/page/Main_Page) to test sites or for the rare occasion when I have use a site that will only run on IE.

FireFox, initially for security, then for the add-ons available.
Pop-up prevention is a big plus, too.
The built-in spellchecker is nice, too, for on-the-fly proofing.
IE is a browser I use when I must, for updating some software, or dealing with commercial entities that insist on it. Also when checking web pages for usability and appearance. -

It would be FF, but my job is building websites, and since most ppl use IE, and IE and FF render things differently, I'm forced into the straight-jacket that is IE.
Ho hum...-
Correction. Most people do NOT use IE.

As a web designer, you should be building to support as many browsers as possible anyway. -
Well in excess of 80% of users that visit the websites I do for work use IE; so while you're right that sites should be coded for as many people as possible, it makes sense to make sure that they look good in IE first and worry about the others afterwards. But the site should still be coded in such a way that it will work for non-IE users.
Personally, I use Safari for 95% of my home browsing and Flock (based on Firefox) to fill the gap. At work, I use Firefox as much as possible and only resort to IE for Royal Mail and ParcelForce who make it impossible to use anything else because their sites are so buggy and unreliable.

@ghostytwofish - the stats we have on every website we've ever done indicate IE is used far more than any other browser on our sites. However you are perfectly right in that we do check sites with numerous browsers, it's just that I've had to go back to IE as being my default browser (which I'm not happy with) due to a few FF incidents.
-
Well, I'd say youre probably right. about 30% use IE6, and another 30% IE7, and 30% FF. So, yes, IE vs. FF 2:1. However, by ignoring FF, you disable the site for 1/3 of your visitors.
Its perfectly possible to have pages render correctly in all three browsers. You just need to know how to have CSS look at what browser is used and pull in the correct definitions. -
Lets see if I can get this reply in the right place lol. I agree completely with what you're saying, it's just that the stats we have for our own sites indicate much heavier IE usage. We are based in Dubai, UAE, and most of our clients are in this area. That very probably accounts for the difference.
On a diff note are you into website construction? We've started to move away building for clients and into buliding sites for ourselves. More money

Fire Fox - I just converted and have bee AMAZED at the difference. Fewer pop ups, fewer error messages and just an overall "cleaner" look. I'm sold.

well, firstly there will never be any pop ups unless you click on links that popup new windows, secondly multiple tabs baby! IE has this on version 7 but most of us use (33% of internet users) IE ver.6
multiple tabs are like multiple windows but only on the one firefox browser so you can switch pages from different internet sites.
if there's anymore i am sure there's others that will list them down below

For all you IE users have a look at this article with videos it quite good

as much as I like Firefox, I have to web develop with IE in mind as 92% of site vistors are using IE!
I think it is still better to develop with the majority in mind (even nicer if it works across all platforms of course) but hopefully that will change?? (soon)??
You should still view your website and blog on as many different browsers (and versions) as possible to avoid loosing visitors. -
If anyone is interested in any relationship stories or even some advice (just the targeted visitors thanks) head over to dont-break-up.blogspot.com
havnt had many visitors in a while...
so lonely... -
firefox convert here! safari doesn't even come close...

I do use both browsers, about Internet Explorer version 7 - 90% ... and Firefox about 10% of the time. I don't like firefox .. except when I use the Aardvark Extension for mapping div tags and column widths. Also .. on complicated pages it's a nicer View Source with their colours. But, Firefox 2.0 isn't as secure as Internet Explorer v.7 i.m.o. and IE is much more userfriendly. Of my entire network of 50 or so blogs ... the stats are:
Firefox 2.x (2%) Firefox 1.x (18%) Internet Exlorer v7 (37%) IEv6 (36%) Others (7%) >> based on about 15000 uniques per month.
If you want to be informed about each of the browser you should do research and here's a couple of links below.. (it's okay to like one browser better, but don't put down the other users who use the other browser - especially making your sites unaccessible .. that's just plain stupid)

Hands down, Firefox rules!
Shameless blog promotion here -
Why I use the Firefox browser: tinyurl.com/25ud7q -
Firefox rocks! My OS is XP but I only use IE7 to view blogs where bloggers say there is a problem and I need to verify that.

FireFox, especially faster in the new 3.0 version. As for the new Internet Explorer 8? This blog post sums it up pretty well, www.vdomainhosting.com/blog/2008/05/17/better-branding-for-internet-explore...

Safari first, Firefox second, Internet Explorer.... I'd rather use an RSS reader.
Any good interactive/web developer will tell you that IE has been garbage for years and has been a detriment to web standards and other web technologies. Developers who have coded sites specifically for IE have also contributed to the problem.
Now... in defense of the current IE development team... MS has gotten the message while watching their market share drop. IE 8 will have much better support for standards and probably some of the cool features of Firefox and Safari. Unfortunately, Vista is now the problem and I'm not sure IE 8 will be available for XP.

Firefox, all the way
Here is a link I stumbled across talking about
how Microsoft, is joining in on the development
of Firefox3.0,

Firefox, although I've had a few problems with it going into a spin lately. Sometimes it is using over 300,000kb of memory and totally slows the computer. I also get a problem with it where links which are meant to open up in a new window, just don't and I end up having to restart the whole program to get that part to work again.

Mozilla for Sure... I just open the Explorer when I want to use 2 gmails at the same time.
