When buying new items/furniture for your home do you go for retro style, antique or are you a modernista who wants all the latest gadgets?

Antique. I have quite a bit of either real antique or antique-style furniture, much of it inherited. At my age, there have been quite a few family members pass things down to me on their demise.

My family is fond of Antique furniture which always seems hulking and garish to me. I prefer "minimalistic design" for my own house. It's also looking quite modern.
"Less is more" is my main principle in design.

I prefer furniture with a soft, cozy, embracing warmth to it. With only a few exceptions, modern furniture feels cold, hard and rejecting to me.

You can find modern furnitures with soft and cozy anyway. Bcs there's also so much options. Modern Desing in furnitures has brain storming ideas.

Antique any day, but not massive stuff.

Love antique although modern is not heavy. Ours are mainly teak from Indonesia.

Actually, I am sitting at a teak table at the moment. It's a dining table we found at a junk furniture shop in Jakarta.

I have a round brass tea-table from Morocco. I love these styles too!

I love antiques. The only time I'd choose a new piece over an antique one would be if it were something, like a sofa, that would get a lot of use and potentially be abused.

My house is from 1899, so I usually try to find something new that still fits in with that general turn-of-the-century style.

    Not always easy!

My parents' house is full with antiques. It is cozy but it takes extra effort to take care and clean them out.

I prefer modern furniture or a combination of modern stuff with a small amount of antiques.

Minimalist what matters mostly to me.

I prefer high quality more than modern or antique if I can get it.

i prefer furniture full stop, you people have too much choice

Actually, I prefer a mixture of both. I am particularly fond of Charles Eames' designs; considered modern in the 50's, I guess Eames' pieces are now considered antiques.

    Modern...especially the Hollywood style furniture.

antique. I restore it as a business now but it started as a hobby. I love the beauty of the older pieces, made when craftmanship mattered and each piece was created not mass produced.

I love antiques. We just picked up an oak sideboard that my husband is refinishing. The detail is beautiful. You're right about the craftsmanship. Each piece is unique. I've had an antique business as a sideline for years, but love the furniture so much that a lot of it ends up in our house! Then we sell off what we're replacing.

Antique and the older the better (maybe it has something to do with the fact I turned thirty last month ).

I love art deco and a lot of the 50's stuff. Mackintosh and Bauhaus stuff is also great. Leather and chrome - definitely.

Not keen on lots of gadgets.

Greek furniture is mostly dark, heavy wood and very uncomfortable. IKEA is the best option over here. But I don't mind that, as IKEA comes close to al lot of the classic stuff I like.

It must be beautiful & unique... thats my choice

I love vintage with a touch of modern.

I prefer mid century modern antiques. My apartment is full of furniture from the Eames Era chairs and Danish modern dressers and tables.

In general I prefer modern furniture, it's more functional.
When it comes to style, minimalism is the best.
But antiques can geniously spice up the interiors look...
Recently I found little baroque table, so nicely shaped...
the opposites underline each others beauty.

Modern and primitive, but not retro or antique. I get vibes from old furniture, so I go for furnishings that don't bring me a lot of uninvited company. It's exhausting to have dead people sitting on your couch waiting to chat when you get home from a long day at the office. :-)

    modern off course...
  24. lawrencevon
a nice balance of both. generally, antiques have that special factor because of its rarity.

Both, I have eclectic tastes and don't like being stuck with a theme.
