set small targets and accomplish each. you will feel satisfied then breeds the motivation. this is my way.

Make a list. If some things on the list seem too much to want to do at once, break that item down into smaller, manageable sections. A big job won't be as daunting when its just in parts, and you won't put it off as much.

We've tried to attend procrastinators anonymous but have never made it there yet!
Bottom line is we lean towards the 'nice to do' rather than the ' must do' unless one really, really has to. -
I no longer think of it as procrastinating. Over the years, it's become very clear to me that I operate best with a solid block of uninterrupted time--for a large project, a block that many people would find brought on diminishing returns--and an impending deadline. I know when it's time to get started and how much time I need to block out...but I'm not a person who works well in small pieces over time.

Most of what I do these days isn't large projects. In the course of a given work day I typically edit 15-20 articles, process invoices for contractors, review current legal news and make assignments, update inventory and scheduling, write an article or two or five (depending on the day), meet with some or all of my writers to review current projects in progress, make minor revisions to emails and marketing materials prepared by other people, and any of a dozen or more other tasks. None of those things require immersion.
However, when I'm working on something larger that requires big-picture focus, it's a different matter entirely. For instance, I write articles for attorney newsletters that sometimes synthesize various studies and court cases, each of which are 30 or 50 or a hundred pages long, into a single article. I tend to save those things to work on at home, because it goes much more smoothly if I can hold all of the various pieces of information and how they relate in my mind and work straight through. That's more like when I was in law school, and consistently opted to outline each entire semester course in a single 18-hour sitting...or when I wrote the first 273 pages of my first novel in three weeks.

sometimes I do procrastinate. You know there such time you just can't make a decision. But i often make a decision quickly.

Hi Footiam, you've inspired us to ask this question over at flowers! We've considered holding a 'Procrastinators anonymous' meeting but always wonder if it'll ever get off the ground :-)
Great topic! www.gosmelltheflowers.com/blog -
No, not really procrastinating at work or while working on assignments. I'm worse. It's the little stuffs. Like, getting myself a haircut, shopping for a new pair of pants, finding a date (hahaha!), etc ...Gooooddd.. I tend to procrastinate whenever I'm faced with making a decision, that's basically it.

I see procrastination as the putting off of decision making or actions. However, this is not always a 'bad' thing. Sometimes it may be better to put off a decision until you have more or better information. It may also be better to delay taking action until you are able to see actions taken by others.

It's easier for me to procrastinate if I only have one or two things to do in a day...if I fill my day with 'goings on' it's a lot easier to arrange the workflow. So if I'm making a 'list of things to do' I fill it with a lot of things I genuinely want to do and the other things get taken care of as well.

Itend to act before I think, always have done..so it's never really been an issue for me, but as I am slowing a little, coming down the other side of life's hill..I sometimes pause a bit..here and there..just briefly. Does that count?

I procrastinate unintentionally most of the time. Little things distract me fairly easily sometimes and I end up forgetting what I had been doing beforehand. Nowadays I also tend to write stuff down on post-it notes and sometimes make checklists.
I think the only thing I've recently been putting off is another medical exam. I'm pushing that thing until the end of time. If it's work you're having issues getting through, doing a bit here and there helps alleviate the drudgery of it all.
