What do you think of these kind of peoples who run/chase celebs and stars just for an autograph or just to take a glimpse of them.

Do they lack self respect?

Not necessarily. I guess it depends on what the person is famous for. If I see a singer or musician somewhere that I really like, I don't think it's out of place to tell them "Good job!" or something. But beyond that it gets a bit strange. I've never understood the kind of hysteria that some people seem to fall into when they see a celebrity, screaming like mad and needing to be warded off like a rabid dog. It's just weird.

I don't know whether they lack self-respect, but I know they lack respect for others. Having observed this process up close on a number of occasions, I've come to see it as nearly inhuman--it's as if people are so focused on getting their own little piece of someone famous that they don't care in the least what it costs the object of their "affection". Since that little bit of education, I never do more than smile and nod slightly when I run across someone well-known.

no way, too dumb, Paris Hilton is the biggest example, for god sakes, who the run after them? Fanatics maybe! or really big fans!

I can understand what these people feel. Even at my age I still blush around my favorite celebrities. There's this one instance when I was setting beside a movie actor. A friend who's a magazine columnist/tv host was having a photo exhibit somewhere in Manila. This actor was having beer. But shy and reserved that I am ,I just smile at him. Of course we didn't converse until he asked where I live and all that stuff. It was amazing but I pretended to be in control and everything. That same night I found myself surrounded by my favorite bands and I was actually talking to this lady who's a lead singer of that band and my heart went thomp thomp thomp. Later I had to ask for beer. I was like what was that dammit LOL..>

um ... with or without my truck? |:"

Seriously, there is a big difference between 'celebrity' and 'star.' Guys like Sinatra & Bob Hope were just 'some of the guys' to my Dad and they just shook their heads over the Hollywood types who were famous just for being famous; i.e. the drama queens famous for being drunk in public, addicted to photo ops, no real talent.

Very, very few stars around nowadays.

It's the fandom thing! We should respect them. Sometimes its overboard but they're just fans who would like to see their idols.

That's just it .. why are these photo hounds idols? I've worked with so many of them ..haven't been impressed by more than two or three. Jim Morrison impressed me for his prolific and passionate writing. Sammy Hagar is a hometown boy, smart and funny, that remains pretty much unchanged by stardom. Bruce Springsteen was another passionate writer but, despite the second cut on the flip side of the 'Born In The USA' album, he changed so much that I lost any interest in his writing years ago. Couldn't carry on a conversation with Jimi Hendrix, although I loved his performances. Ditto Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead and Led Zeppelin. Janis Joplin and Gracie Slick were brilliant performers, but after hauling their slobbering, drunken butts to their buses they didn't seem quite so interesting.

Lindsay Lohan, the Kardashians, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Kim Stewart ....what do they do, really, to deserve paparazzi let alone respect? Maybe I'm getting old, but I just don't get it.
