If so, is your blog in your first language? Do you have trouble translating if it isn't?

I ask because I just wrote a post about funny English translations in foreign signs. Check them out - they're hilarious. I am hopeless at languages so hats off to anyone who can speak more than one.

    2. OutsideMyBrain
lol - I certainly wouldn't try publishing in Spanish. But, it gets me by when I need to communicate with someone. I wish I could speak it better, but I don't practice enough.

At least you knew what I was saying right?
    3. globalgirl
Ha! Darkblaze, you made me laugh out loud. Now I certainly won't practice my Spanish here. :-)
    4. Darkblaze37
Yes, i understood OutsideMyBrain, that's one of the pros of Spanish, no matter how inexperienced is the speaker you get to know what he's trying to say.
And Globalgirl: its ok. You can practice your English here. Remember that mistakes are only made once if you got somebody to point them to you
    5. OutsideMyBrain
Darkblaze - you made quite a few mis... nah, it's too easy!

I'm really impressed. I don't know how you manage to do it. Do you think that it's a natural talent to be able to learn another language, or can anyone do it?
  17. Webzu
I speak and can understand six languages.

    Vietnamese - Vietnamese heritage
Danish - I live in Denmark
Swedish - basically the same as Danish with a few adjustments in terms of tones
    Norweigian - see Swedish
English - pretty much impossible to get around the internet without it
German - obligatory language during school

Trying to teach myself Chinese at the moment, going to look for a course when I have time.
    1. FANCY
Webzu - I have to give you a reply on this...Swedish - basically the same as Danish with a few adjustments in terms of tones
      Norwegian - see Swedish

Danish and Norwegian = No way...I have a hard time to understand this two, They are not so close to each other. In Denmark they talk with a "hot potato in the mouth, When it come to Norway it is more difficult if it come from people who come from more north out from there capital city and I can say that I have huge problem to understand them. I think it must be more then just a few adjustments in tone and terms.

Obviously I can speak Bahasa Indonesia as it's my first language, both the formal and colloquial (they're quite different).
I'm also quite fluent in English.
I understand some Javanese because that's where my grandparents originated from. I can speak it a little in the informal form.
I also understand Arabic a lil bit, because I study it in school for Qur'an studies; but don't ask me to speak Arabic.
  27. AainaA
My mother tongue is English, although I often times think in French, and sometimes write English with a Continental 'grammar' which is quite odd really. I also speak Malay, and understand Indonesian. Unfortunately I do not comprehend Javanese or Syrian, which are my Origin {sad innit?}. I do read Arabic and Hebrew.
    1. adhitsr
Whoa, where are you from AainaA? It seems that you have quite a lot of "origin"s. I thought Syrians use arabic too, don't they?
  28. AainaA
Arabs use Arabic - Syrians, Iranians, Iraqians and the derivatives of the older civilization have similar lingua though we do have our own lingo, like Javanese and the derivatives of the Indonesian populace. I'm from a mixed parentage, and heritage. My dad is Javanese/Chinese/Japanese, whilst mum is of EuroSyrian.

  36. Svelmoe
Well, I speak my primary language and English (duh), and write in English as I prefer that for the topics at hand.
But I'm generally terrible at languages, so what I know of German is rather little 'cause I only had it in school for 3 years when I was young.
I've also attempted to learn some Russian and Italian, but - well being terrible at learning languages it never stuck

I am fluent in English, as is my native language here in the US of A, but I also have completed 2 years of Spanish, and have 3 more to go in High School.

It's a great skill to have, especially when traveling abroad. I had to use many phrases during my two week stay in Argentina this summer!
