My kids & I regularly do craft & playing music together and it's a really good shared experience.
~Sometimes it's the projects that don't work out the way we expect that are the most fun.

I'm just wondering how many parents today spend time being creative with their children, and in what ways?

Yep, every other weekend we make funny videos and a garden (I think the garden died though) and jewelry, and . . .

I usually have the same luck with plants, although we do have some tomatoes that we grew from seed that have just fruited.

So maybe I'm finally getting a green thumb (or is it just my son's snot stuck under the nail?)

Then why are you subjecting the ones who frequent these forums to such inappropriate content?

Tiffany... OUCH. What gives with this person?

I think he's gone now, Theresa, but at the time I posted that response he had eight threads on the front page, including, "How old were you when you lost your virginity?", "Have you ever done it in the back seat of a car?"...well, you get the idea. Eight. All at once. Almost half the front page.

Eight is enough! Ha, and good for you.

Let's see chopping paper daily, coloring sometimes on walls reading mostly a creative day this is all day in my household everyday.

Mr Bump (who's 4), loves "paper chopping".

He has his own pair of scissors that I regularly 'lose' in order to keep the floor clean...

Wren (7) has glowing pink handprints on the dining room wall after an exciting painting event.

I have a chopper too; he'll go through stages where all he wants to do is cut paper into strips, then the strips into little confetti squares. It's just mesmerizing to him. He used to open & close his mouth with every "chomp of the alligator's mouth" as he used to refer to the scissors.

I do a lot of stuff with the girls. Now that it is nice outside we have been going to the park a lot though. The movies in the park will be starting soon too for the kids. That's nice as it is across the street from my house. My youngest has washable crayons so she has been decorating my tables, her high chair and a little bit of everything

It's Autumn here (Australia), so we're gearing up for high~intensity craft time. ~We've just had 12 days straight of rain!

Mr Bump uses chalk on the paths and pavers out the back with reckless abandon. It keeps him amused for hours, and the only proviso is that he keeps it to the ground, not the steps, walls or my car. He usually sticks to it...

Movies in the park sounds lovely!

Wow 12 days of rain! We had a stretch of rainy days a couple weeks back. Don't thin it was 12 days but it was over a week.
Movies in the park are nice, the movie is free and the popcorn and soda are cheap.
The only thing with the nice weather is there are a couple of guys that play guitar almost every night in the park. They are not that great and they do not play entertaining music, but they are loud enough to hear inside over the TV!
    3. janeycatte
lol@ the lousy live music. ~Maybe you could leave them an anonymous note or something...

I read on Thursday in the paper (after 11 days of rain) that the last time we had a wet stretch like this in Sydney was 77 years ago!

I wonder how long it's been since we've had 12 straight rainy days???

I'm a very creative person and try to do crafts often with my son; the latest was a homemade pinata from a paper bag and fringed strips of construction paper. We also recently planted a garden together & will spend the summer tending it. I wish I was musical, but we do have dance parties a few times a week. My husband makes up great stories for him and encourages him to participate in the storylines.

That's great! We made a pinata for Wren's 5th birthday and none of the kids could break it ~ it was too thick (kinda like me at times).

Paper & cardboard is such a versatile craft item for kids.

The stories sound good, too. ~ You should write down some of them for him

Oh yes! Specially on their growing stage. They are aged 11, 9 and 7 now. I did not have much time during their earlier years so I am taking advantage and making up now more during their summer vacation. You can take a look at them at my A Bunch of Dreams site. They are my bunch of dreams...

I make sure that they are cared for. I have a desire to ensure that they grow up responsible and self-improving. It is tough-going. But as parent, we have to stick to it till they grow up and able to fend for themselves.

My time is spent is humoring my feline children. I find it amusing to keep them on their toes, since they have so many. Feathers, balls, stuffed animals toys, bells, ribbons, music, and their favorite TV show, "Clifford The Big Red Dog." I will sometimes open up the keyboard of the baby grand so they can play a song. Unfortunately, they do not have the talent as does this little lady.

All day long between the cushion-built rocket ships, discussions about the giants in our backyard, and the imaginary frogs he carries just about everywhere he goes ... quite the fun life

I love doing little projects with my kids.. crafts, play dough, finger paints, you name it and I'm usually having more fun doing it than my kiddos are. One night my daughter and I dressed up as princesses and ate cookies together.. speaking of which I should do that with her again before she's too big to want to dress up.

I spend time with my 8 year old daughter playing chess..twitting, playing cards and questions and answers. The other two boys 6, 4 I spend time blowing balloons...oh how they love it!
  15. vincentylli
I make up stories with imagined characters with my 6 years old daughter, usually in the context of school life which she can readily relate to, but try to build lessons in the stories for her to digest.
  16. legbamel
My little guys make up songs and games all by themselves, but we do dance together often. I also make up a mini-story for each of them at bedtime, usually an extreme case of "what could happen to you if you don't do a certain chore", but sometimes they'll ask for a topic and sometimes they'll "correct" my story.

Every day - painting, playing music, making music we make our own books - it's all "school time" stuff, but my craft drawers have taken over the house

Definitely - check out the first part and last part of my post for info. Actually, he was more of a victim than a participant.

We do stuff together for scouts and I get the "creative" assignments from school. This is a blog I did about a poem he had to write and how we went about it.
