Shall we learn Chinese just because China will possibly turns into very powerful one day? Perhaps it is already happening? What is your opinion?

Isn't Mandarin the language spoken by the majority of the world's population?

Might be a good idea to learn it.

Is it? I've no idea of that. I thought is English. If that's true, then maybe it is time to start learning Mandarin.

I don't know how accurate this is, but it looks like Mandarin is first, followed by English, with twice as many Mandarin speakers as English.

Hindi and Spanish aren't much far behind English

China is powerful than 10years ago, 50years ago, 100years ago. Economic power also huge than ever due to policies change after Chairman Mao.
We can learn something good from them, like diligence, etc.

Re: learn chinese (or mandarin for that matter)

China isn't and never will be as accommodating as US. They are a regional bully with nefarious designs
    1. ChampDog
I'm not sure if "Never" is the right word to use. Why you so sure about that?

Anyone who can speak both Mandarin and English has a huge career advantage in the global economy. The future of the world economy is in China (& India). Sadly, I fear the U.S.’s glory days are in the past. America’s standard of living will decline while Asia’s will expand.
    1. trailofpen
Maybe when I'm dead, or someone bombs the crap out of us, but nah, glory days are far from over.
    2. ChampDog
I'm one of those. I hope you're right on the huge career advantages.

Mandarin is a tonal language. The meaning of each word depends on how you say it. It is very hard for us, English users, to memorize proper nouns. Any direct translation from English to Mandarin surely won't work. Chinese typos totally alter the meaning of the sentence. Chinese is full of idioms that don't make sense when read literally. The Chinese writing system is very difficult. It has 6500 characters in common use. Can we beat that?
    1. ChampDog
I agree it is not easy to learn Mandarin especially in writing. They don't have alphabet system from A to Z.

China powerful? Yes! Also made comment on your blog. 8-)
    1. ChampDog
Yes, I think they are but it doesn't mean they're easy to take over U.S.

China's economic status has grown as well as there global operations. It wouldn't be a bad idea to learn it but it is a difficult language to learn.

Just attended a business market update in my company. It is clearly that China has a huge potential as compared to rest of the countries in Asia.

Learn to speak is probably way easier than writing. I also realize that typing in Chinese is also easier than writing in Chinese. Perhaps we should learn to type rather than write. Hahaha...

China is powerful. How powerful? They forced me to marry a Chinese-American bride by seducing me with her beauty, care, and charm. How dare they!!!! Those bastards!!!!

      Hahaha... You're the lucky man!

Chinese people will always learn English. Would I love to know Chinese? Sure. Spanish too. But let's face it. These guys educate their kids to learn English and will forever.
