Do you think that Christmas is far too Commercial? I do, in fact it bothers me quite a bit how commercial it is, and has become in recent decades, not to mention appearing to be all about material possessions and spending money.
What happened to the simple old 'Good Will' theme as well as sharing a nice meal with a gathering of friends and family? What happened to the real meaning of Christmas?
From now on, we will be constantly bombarded on the TV and everywhere with constant advertisements to do with buying expensive gifts for our nearest and dearest.
My mailbox was so full of Christmas catalogs yesterday that the poor mailman would have had get off his bike and come to my door to deliver the mail, if I hadn't of discovered them and pulled them all out. There was no space left and as I pulled they flew all over the pathway. Arggghhh!
It just bothers me. And, I also wonder how much debt people are getting into because of this pressure to spend money on gifts at Christmas time. It sure adds up when you have a lot of relatives. And, with the recession it is not looking good.

The truth is that the commercial aspect is driven by demand. There's nothing preventing Christians or anyone else from not being part of a commercialized Christmas. The power is in the hands of the consumers. They can choose to close their wallets and not use their plastic any time they want to. I have a 30 year history of non-participation to look back on, and every one of those non commercial Winter Solstice celebrations has been truly wonderful and meaningful.

I think it's way too commercial.
That's why I'm buying t-shirts, sweaters and posters that say "Stop Commercializing Christmas" for all of my friends and family.
I'm also buying them copies of new books like "Christmas Has Become Too Commercial" and "How to Stop the Commercialization of Christmas," as well as CD's featuring songs about making Christmas less commercial and anti-commercialization-of-Christmas action figures.....
