I have written on my site about bird friendly coffee among other FT topics. Recently I wrote about a very interesting new product, fair trade footballs, basketballs etc.

The president of the company that makes them actually commented on my post. Something he said made me wonder... After quality, when you buy something, is price the first consideration? Or do you sometimes put social or ethical options first? I know someone who never shops at WalMart, etc. He does pay more for his underwear, though!

Price isn't the first consideration. I shop for fair trade products. Coffee is a good example. I also try to buy when a portion of the money goes to a charitable cause.

If any of you do make the effort to buy fair trade coffee, please read the post linked below to see if you can take it one step further to buy only the official Smithsonian certified labels. Thanks!

a recent post: "Child Slave Labor: No Excuses" - related to a major clothing retailer busted for child slave labor in their supply chain.

    good Q!

I recently blogged about a book about "ethical consumerism" which explores a number of issues to consider and weigh when trying to make more ethical buying decisions
