A lot of people have told me that they like my work because it is simple and they are able to relate to it. Do you think poetry is often too elaborate and hard to understand?

Sometimes is difficult, depends of the poet, but a good poet make you feel what he try to say.

Couldn't agree more. The beauty about poetry is that it is open to interpretation. So even though you don't feel what you were meant to, you always feel something.

it depends on the author. take for example wallace stevens.if you really want to understand his imagery, then you have to work with a literary companion or sth. but that does not mean poetry expressed in simple words does not reveal or present things from a new perspective

I don't think so. Even if the writer wants you to interpret it in a differerent way than you read it,is not a big deal. That's why I love poetry. The author can mean something totally different than the way you read it,but that's how it makes it personable...(is that a word?).

I have a really hard time with poetry. In most cases I think that there are so many ways to interpret a single line of a poem that I get confused. I rarely 'get' it. Which is a little weird considering my father is a poet.

No sway,do it like I do. Forget what the author means...what u take it as is how I read it. Who cares if you get something out of it.

Its just words. I rather think it was written for my eyes...ya feel me

Poetry is like any art form. Sometimes it resonates with the moment. Or it may resurface in the memory and touch later on. I never know.It is why I love arts. Never knowing. A chance to explore.

Or sometimes it resonates for just a moment, you scratch your head and think, "wtf?" then it dissipates and is quickly forgotten.

I read poetry more for the sound than the sense. For the rhythm and atmosphere created by the words.
