A friend of mine from Canada asked me if I have JingleMe.....duh? what is that?

she said she uses it on her blog so her friends can call her using her blogs without even exposing her cellphone number....absolutely FREE!

I got so curious and logged in to www.JingleMe.com

Yes, it works...and is absolutely free...

However, it cannot be used worldwide since coverage is limited to North America area....but this is such a cool widget to put in your blogs!

The horror! Why in the world would I want total strangers to be able to call me, wherever I am, day or night? I can't imagine a reason to add that to my blogs.

in case you were offering a service or product and offering support?

I can see the benefits. But, I would never do it. (although I do have a toll-free (in North America) fax line in case anybody wants to fax me something .. and that's published on my webpage.

Yikes! I'm with you. I can't think of a worse scenario than providing a virtual open door to telemarketers, opportunists, and trolls to enter and invade my life whenever they please. I will never ever add such a piece of "tat" to my blogs.
      (tat = trendy, useless crap)

JingleMe (www.JingleMe.Com) has multiple features that protect the privacy issue; First, you do not need to display your number (i.e. Your number is private)only your personalized JingleMe widget is displayed; Second, you have an option to set the time and day that you would like to receive calls (if any at all). So if you do not want to receive calls from your friends, say via your online profile (Myspace, Facebook, etc), during certain time of the day or, certain day of the week, you have an option to block calls for these periods; Thirdly, once you receive a call, you have an option to hear who is calling (a recorded voice from the caller) and accept it, or reject the call without the caller even knowing it; So unless you choose to connect to the caller, the caller will not get to talk to you; Finally, say you don't ever want to hear from this caller again, well, JingleMe has an option to block the caller so he/she will not be able to call/Jingle you until you provide that permission in your profile. So, as you can see lots of privacy and protection features. It's not like someone calls you and you pick up the phone and then start chatting. It has interesting reporting features, where you can listen who the caller is and block the caller, delete the record etc. And btw, the basic service is FREE. Check it out, it is a cool widget to have.

Never. I'm not online all the time for everyone. In any case I'm not a telephone person at all.
