I was scared at first because I am going to hike through the heart-land of America staying in hotels, campgrounds, hostels, and under bridges, I should be concerned but I am not anymore. More people die every year form the regular influenza virus. living in fear is not living at all.
So no, I do not care about it.-
Shuttercraft, that's an easy thing to say from the perspective of a healthy young man. Taking reasonable precautions is not the same as "living in fear"--would you say that looking both ways before you cross the street inhibits your life too much, so it's better just to walk blindly into traffic and see what happens?
I agree that there was a lot of hype and unnecessary fear over H1N1, but the risk to different people is different. When H1N1 first started making the rounds, two different medical professionals took the initiative to call me and tell me that I was exactly the kind of person who would very likely not survive this flu, and that I should avoid going out unnecessarily and take other precautions until it was contained.
Was I afraid? Nope. Did I think it was a good idea to listen to the professionals and avoid unnecessarily risking something that would probably kill me? You bet.

my mom was really worried about swine flu (since i have a compromised immune system), but when i asked my doctors about it, they said that masks were unnecessary unless you're in an enclosed space with someone who has a confirmed case. otherwise, just take the same precautions as regular flu season - hand washing, etc. ...i'm just going to carry a little bottle of hand sanitizer around with me. :-)

haha i have little colorful bottles of sanitizer on plastic keychains that i can attach to things. absolutely the height of fashion.
although, when i was still with my internship, the costume dept. made me a really fancy mask with rhinestones & feathers just in case anyone came to work sick (it was mostly a joke - but a pretty awesome one!)

A mask?? In portugal people aren't very concerned with that. It is said that in october 1 at 4 people will have h1n1. But we are in Summer, not fall.
