I one the things that gets me personal fulfillment is that I write because I want to help others. I write mainly for women. I give advice on dating and relationships. One of my most popular articles about reasons men don’t call women in dating internet-dating-guru.blogspot.com/2008/08/what-to-do-if-man-you-are-dating-... has received many positive responses from my readers thanking me for writing it. I take pride in helping women soothe the pain of a break up, the confusion that comes with starting and being in a relationship etc. Do you write to help others? Who do you help?

Yes, most of the time. Otherwise, there would not be a reason to write. Helping others is very rewarding.

some of my posts are intended to help others, maybe not directly but indirectly ... i have even received comments from others that after reading my post(s) that have felt better and were able to develop a more positive outlook about themselves ... and this has been able to give me a lot of satisfaction

I think you're on to something here: It's a rare post that doesn't have the potential to help someone - even if it's only to entertain.
    1. OneMuslim
yes and I also want to help myself as well.
  3. tjefferson85
That is one of the goals of my writing! To help someone find their voice, to help shed light on problems, and to inspire someone!

Do you write to help others? Who do you help?

Yes. I write to help other bloggers.

one cool site: wordpress blogging tips is a growing collection of blogging tips, how to instructional posts, tutorials, walk-throughs, work-arounds and links to blogging tools and blogging resources.

My goal is to provide useful information to both beginner bloggers and to those who wish to improve their blogging skills. My focus is on writing posts on How to Become a Better Blogger and Building a Better Blog. onecoolsite.wordpress.com

I agree TT. Even though I do not use Wordpress, you still have an abundance of tips and advice.
    2. SamBangs
And you do a fine job, I'll say.
  5. 06mopar
I write to inform others about politics some of the time but to be honest most of the time I write to entertain others. If I can make somebody laugh I have done just as much good for them as I have when I write about Pay for Performance Healthcare.
  6. farangrakthai
When I write in forums, yes. On the blog, no, generally just giving my thoughts on Thailand, which I'm sure a lot of people can disagree with.

Yes I write to Internet Marketers and Online Business Owners with Marketing Information.
Yes I write to Everyone with Gift and Holiday Ideas.
Yes I write to Pet Dog Owners with Canine Hygene and Health Related.
Yes I write to People who post in the Free Classified Ads.

I enjoy educating or helping people.
  8. SweetViolet
On my cheaptricksntips.blogspot.com/ blog, I write to help others. Sometimes I do on my main blog, like here sweetvioletsa.blogspot.com/2008/09/internet-dating-12-tips-to-keep-you.html. But mostly I write about whatever has most recently griped me or struck my fancy or whatever is currently rattling around in my brain.
  9. ranist22
Not in the sense of advice or tips, but I adhere to the concept of Poetry as Therapy (some people prefer art). I think creative expression like this puts you in touch with the universe within you, and helps the inner anguish (in a nutshell). I minimize my own blah-blah.

Yes, to inform and to give advice is my cornerstone of writing blogs. I don't write personal blog because its all about myself and people don't like to know about you. They are more concern about themselves.
  12. barryfromtexas
I try to help people with my blog. I have actually been able to reuite a daughter and her estranged father. Even if I accomplish nothing else, that in itself was worth all of my blogging efforts.

I may or may not have helped others that way, but I only know of the one who responded to me.
  13. annz
Barry, what a great story. That must have felt great.

When I started my tragic optimist blog, it was in part a way to let others know about our infertility journey and to at least let people who were going through the same think know that they weren't alone. But I write about that a lot less now.

My Little Four Eyes blog is specifically for helping parents of young kids in glasses. I've gotten quite a few emails from parents, and it really makes it all worth it.
  14. poisonapplesauce
Most of the time I write to update what is going in with me and my job, but if someone read between the lines and wanted to get into show business of any kind they could use the lessons and resources I blog about to help themselves. Does that make sense?
  15. womenslegal
I hope I help others. I post about Domestic Violence, Family Law, Judicial Corruption, for women in the legal system, etc. My aim is to bring awareness and to empower women to stand strong and speak up.

It's not something I consciously think about, in the sense of "what can I do to make this post helpful to other people?" On the other hand, I do write about problems I have and finding healthier ways of dealing with those problems, and comments I've gotten show that others have similar issues and that some have found what I write helpful. And, actually, I've been amazed at the response my last post, which I thought of as just idle thoughts about various issues including child abuse, but a number of people have said it effected them deeply. So, I guess, in a few cases at least, I'm helping people simply by being honest with my own thoughts and experiences.

    Expressing myself is another objective.

I fully agree with you Elaine that helping others is very much satisfactory from inside. Keeping this in mind, I have created two blogs for Software testing i.e quicktesthp.blogspot.com and qtpgoodtutorials.blogspot.com and I am getting very good response from people and mostly people are thanking me for creating these blogs. I feel great after getting such response from my blog readers

  21. Profitimo
I would like to think that my blogs are helping out other people.
  22. Jules66
    Hi

I haven't intentionally set out for it to help others, as I was originally just using it as an online jounel, but if it ends up helping someone in someway, that would be bonus !

I know I don't get many comments, but I still like to think that someone might come away from one of my post with something helpful/useful !

I know I have from other people's blogs. Over the last couple weeks, I have been making a bigger effort to leave a comment on someone's post if it has had an effect one me, hopefully a good one ! ;-)

Perhaps later I would like my blog to be more focused and helpful to others, once I know what I am doing LOL
  23. SamBangs
Yes, I eventually want the blog I'm working on now to be a good resource for people interested in astral projection and altered states of consciousness - but I tell stories related to those things, too.

Obviously, it's not everybody's cup of tea.

There's just so much misinformation out there, IMO, and so many charlatans trying to make a buck on people looking for evidence of their soul, it's hard to fathom.
  24. brookypie2009
Yes I do write to help others. Actually I too have an advice column where I will help anybody with just about any problem they may be having.:)
  25. infowebexplore
come on. everyone posts to help him/herself. anyone wants traffic, advertising , etc, otherwise would not stay on BC. Who says contrary I think is dumb and does not observe anything around. Wake up please and stop lying.

I do, though i believe that my blog only reaches out to a very select few.
  27. GILOOSTHUIZEN
I write to share my experiences..if it helps others..great..if not..great!
My purpose to do anything,... is NEVER to fulfill others..And that's not an egotistical statement..If one needs other peoples fulfillment to feel fulfilled..there's a problem with you..You CANNOT truly contributute to another's life without FIRST contributing to your own..You have nothing to give ..

    francois
  28. ToniTMTaylor
Yes...I write to help others while at the same time helping myself. Writing about what drives me and helps me seems to positively influence those that read my blog. I get a lot of personal messages sent to me in regards to how my reader has felt better because they weren't the only person feeling that certain way or going through that certain thing...
  29. Kastina
Um yes, is there anything else worth writing about everyday if it's not going to do something for the rest of the human race??? Or the other species...;)

  35. ChewedUpandSpatOut
My goal for my blog was just for that reason; to help others. I write about being a survivor of domestic abuse, sexual assault and child sexual assault...along with being a divorced mom raising two kids without any child support...sometimes funny...always truthful...and sometimes raw. Today I wrote about April being Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness month..

Yes, I write an advice site: www.askasoothsayer.blogspot.com

I like that I can give people a place to go for confidential and unbiased advice; everyone needs a place like that from time to time.
  39. LisaNYC
Yes, I am currently spending all my free time writing convicted wife killer, Scott Peterson, who is on death row. I hope that my love letters and photos of myself scantily-dressed (I've been told that I'm the spitting image of Angelina Jolie) are helping to cheer him up, and we'll be able to hook-up soon.

Oh, by the way, Model Elaine......I'm also going to be a supermodel, and posted my recent audition for America's Top Model on my blog! It's great to meet somebody else in the business!
    1. DollinNYC
hmmm no response from modelelaine= jealous!
  40. iyaayasmoderator
I suppose the answer would be yes. I write about my life. The entries could help someone if that was the information that they were looking for. So I would say I do not write to help in the direct way, more indirectly.

    iyaayasmoderators.blogspot.com/
  41. DollinNYC
Yes, I post daily Words of Wisdom (WoW's) on my blog. Here is todays' WoW which is coincidentally about dating!

"Choose those you have a good chance of dating, don't aim low but do aim realistically. In other words, your dating is based on the whole package you present as well as just your personality. If you are looking for a glamour girl or boy and want to date someone trendy and gorgeous then good for you, but be prepared and be realistic about your chances."

Doll's blog (see above) also gives excellent advice on how to pick a lock, escape a cult, remove tough blood stains from fabric, and offers other wise solutions to the many problems we all face today.....so I highly recommend it!

yes. i write to help others. i mean, i write to bring a change.
  44. Nomadic
My business is a social enterprise, but I feel I am loosing that direct connection with helping people. It's becoming a little remote. Part time ambulance driving is starting to look attractive. What to do? What skills have I got to offer I wonder?
  45. Guzzo
One thing about experience, you learn that you don't have all the answers. I don't have all the answers, but I write my financial blog as a way to encourage others to take charge of their personal finances and investments.

we write to help men answer all the important questions in their lives.
It is mostly advice and some how-to as well.
  49. agapelife
My whole blog is about empowering (the best form of help, I know of) others. It seems that many do not care about being empowered - as I do not have many readers.
  50. beautifyflr
I definitely write to help or rather advice on fashion

I thnk many people need the right advice to avoid mistakes and become more confident. If you are dressed smartly, carry what suits you, your confidence level increases. There are so many girls who are Fashion slave and follow it blindly. So many people dont understand FASHION is for you, you are not for fashion

very imp to get your look right..

yes my writing concerns critical thinking skills, social influence, presentation of self in everyday life (thanks Erving Goffman, in a variety of social, educational, political and commercial contexts

  56. aningeniousname
    Yes definitely.
Every time I write something, even something as trivial as a comment on this forum, I will typically spend 40-45 minutes in deep spiritual contemplation.
It's only after this period of quiet contemplation that I can begin focus my attention on alleviating the exquisite suffering of my fellow creatures with a few simple strokes of my sticky keyboard and a well timed knob gag.
I see my writing, as I'm sure most sensible well educated normally adjusted people do, as an almost supernatural gift to all of humanity whether they be Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Sikh, atheist or indeed Welsh.
And for this I feel we must praise not only "He who is" but also "Me who isn't but also is" for as St Paul said unto the Chinese hordes at the battle of Gettysburg "Is not the lavender way the righteous way? Is it not our destiny to follow the way of the lavender Aardvark?"
    1. Agit8r
Lavender Aardvark, huh? is that what the kids call it nowadays?
    2. Agit8r
they only call it that when uncircumcized, right?

  65. BeamingBalance
Absolutely. So many people struggle with life balance... my goal is to re-frame what that means and help them feel like they can be completely content (inside) no matter what is going on (outside.)

And if that doesn't work, I make a really good drinking buddy.

    heehee
  66. jeremyjanson
I write to advance ideas and stimulate discussion. I believe this will help society as a whole though I do not know how in particular, historical experience tells us that even just getting people off their couch and in to thinking about important ideas can lead to great progress. I do not know in particular any one person I have helped, but I do believe it is making a difference.

Is that why I write? No. My writing is a passion - a very part of me. If I don't write I feel sick. I can't live without it.

  72. agapelife
Yes, with my established blog - Empower-You, the title says it all. I know more people have visited my blog, even though I have not received as many comments, but the ones I have received show me that it was helpful, inspiring, informative and inspirational.
My new and final blog - TransformYourLife explores the world of authors and creative writing and my hope it will be an interactive blog. Some interviews have been planned.
  73. FredSr2009
Altruism, sure, many people that read my writing think I’m a nut case and disagree with almost everything I write. However, the energy and passion behind my writing is I truly think I’m helping save the world in my own way, even if no one else does. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else ever will. All for free.
  74. nothingprofound
No. Because I think everyone's fine just the way they are.
