I was wondering if anyone else here suffered from anxiety or panic disorder. I've been dealing with this since I was 16 and have yet to see a doctor help me. I have been through a slew of doctors, so the suggestion of "try another one" is really not an option any longer. I was wondering if any of you had some personal self-help tricks or remedies to get rid of anxiety attacks. I have written a post on my blog about some of the ways that help me, but would also like some tips from different people. Also, do you find others undermining your condition if you have anxiety disorder? It makes me feel bad when people do that, saying that 'everybody has it'...

Here are some of my tips, but I would love to get more suggestions. I'm not a professional or doctor, so my advice on this is just from pure experience. Thanks guys!

I have been dealing with anxiety attacks for years. It started at the tale-end of an abusive relationship. At one point my anxiety got so bad I lost all the hair in the front of my head (like comb-over bald), spouted severe rashes and my body slowly started breaking down. I would get panic attacks, sometimes at work. I had to quit my job...it got pretty bad. Eventually it lead to a hysterical episode in which I blanked out running out of my house and into traffic and my boyfriend having to go look for me and I mumbled to myself about random sht.

Personally, I have chosen not to seek medical help (lol). I have chosen meditation, which has completely changed my life. Writing helps, getting sleep helps. I also changed my diet, and eat all organic, non-genetically engineered foods, and adhere to a vegetarian (non-vegan) diet. My hair is back, I have no rashes and I haven't had a panic attack in almost a year.

Wow, you went through a lot. I had a similar experience where I just passed out at my job and found myself in the ER. I lost that job because my anxiety had gotten so bad, that I was unable to cope with life. After that tragic episode of mine, I had written book, which was supposed to be just 'writing in a journal' type of thing, but I decided to publish it after 200 somewhat pages. It was therapeutic and helped me see things in a different light. What type of meditation do you do? I know yoga is a type and there are several methods people use. I'm just curious to hear other people's tips. Even though I have remedies myself, I still suffer greatly.

Thanks for your input! I hope you are feeling 100% better.

you have to read my blog! and I will read yours. I am going to try to read yours tonight but its late so probably tomorrow, but I did read your question. I consider myself soooo lucky to have just run into my doctor. She has helped me for fifteen years. First of all, even though you feel like it you cant die from anxiety attacks... Sucks huh. Anyway when you start telling yourself that, during an attack, you will see that your body will react different cause you know your not dying. Also, I had to learn to breathe. I had and have a huge problem holding my breathe in certain situations. If you are breathing correctly it is impossible to have an anxiety attack, I was told by doc. And I'm pretty sure its right. Depression kicks my butt; I'm so much better, but its a daily struggle. Please read my blog and I will yours also. Good Luck and Best Wishes to you.
