So far nobody answered...
2 conclusions: people don't have acne problems around here, or no acne treatments realy work? What's going on? -
Yes, I had very challenged skin in my teen years, I decided to go to the Horst educational center in Mpls, MN (now Aveda institute) on a rainy day, they had facials for $9.00 in 1988 (now around $40.00. They made me a case study for $4.50 per facial once a week for several months.
The acne problem never retruned. -
Acne occur on imbalance hormone. Maybe result of hypothyroidism. Or one of your regular food has causes it...e.g. butter any form of butter can cause acne triggered by some vegetables like beans and shrimps. Get rid of 'em that's the only way. You maybe buying expensive cosmetics that can just add the problem. According to my causin better not to eat. Double your exercise routine to make yourself sweat to the max to remove all toxic inside you. Eat salad without mayonaise and oil. Less rice or no rice at all and make your own bread less lard no preservative. For short be a provinciana of 1800AD.

I get the occasional whitehead, I follow this proceedure, lean elbows on bathroom window sill so that face is in front of the mirror, take fore finger of each hand and place either side of afore mentioned whitehead and squeeeze, rub in a bit of antisceptic and spray clean the mirror. :o

I grew out of it...but I only got small pimples here and there. Also, just a warning on harsh drugs for acne. Be careful using these products, they can cause problems later on in life. My sister in law used a prescribed acne medicine and now has psoriasis...she did research and some of these medicines are known to cause psoriasis later on in life! Lots of law suits out against some of the drugs. Just a warning to all that read this!

I did a lot of things differently to get rid of mine, and I think they all helped. Such as: If you use a wash rag to wash your face use white only- the dye can irritate skin, when washing hair be careful to not let shampoo or especially conditioner get on my forehead, switch off gel, hairspray, or mouse products and just don't over use and or cover forehead when spraying- maybe even swipe a wash cloth across forehead after styling just to remove the residue. It's amazing how these things can affect your skin! I also started a regular routine of Mary Kay oil free products. Which I love but I've learned that the key is sticking to one thing and not introducing weird fad products to your face every time a new one comes out. Skin just wants to be balanced and when you are throwing different things at it all the time it can't.
My only acne problems now are on my cheek if I talk on the phone too long = oil and dirt irritation from phone, if I lean my chin in my hands a lot, (a nervous/bored reaction), and the forehead stuff as Redheadshesaid mentioned- cuz I NEED hair products, lol!!! But if I behave, my skin behaves. And when I don't, I whip out my trusty MK Acne gel and apply it to the spot as many times a day as I can remember to do and it goes away quickly. -

When my son had bad acne, I searched the internet for some home remedies. Here are a couple I found that seem to work pretty well:
1. Orange Peel: Pound the orange skin with water on a piece stone and apply to acne affected areas.
2. Coriander: A teaspoon of coriander juice, mixed with a pinch of turmeric powder, is an additional effective home medicine for pimples and blackheads. The combination should be applied to the face after carefully washing it each night before retiring.
3. Cucumber: Grated cucumber applied over the face, eyes, and neck for fifteen to twenty minutes has been found useful. It is the most excellent boost for the skin of the face. Its usual use prevents pimples and blackheads.
I read a good article about a man who suffered from acne for more than ten years and finally found a homemade cure. You can read about here: tinyurl.com/m5hjow -
I drink a lot of soda which is probably the #1 cause of my issues. 2nd cause is stress. I didn't have soda for 5 days and my face became firm and less oily. Water and less sugar and limiting any other trigger foods is likely the key..... I'm writing about my change in diet and lifestyle on my blog sugarcomplexion.blogspot.com. I'd love to correspond with others!

Why do you want to get "rid" of acne? Ance is part of "growing up". Do you want to get rid of that too?
I don't understand why otherwise intelligent people get taken in by commercials that teach you ways to get rid of acne. Wake up! It is the Great Business Machine that's trolling out there looking for ways to reach into yours and your parents' purse
Be one with Nature and enjoy all aspects of your growing up! -

As a nutritionist I can say that acne usually appears because of hormonal imbalances, toxic liver, lack of vitamins and minerals in a diet (zinc, B vit, vit A, C and E), junk food and sugar (sugar may stimulate growth of candida (bad bacteria) and this may lead to spots).
So first of all you need to look at your diet and change it for good. Doing a detox to stimulate the liver would be useful, too. Then visit a dermatologist that will treat your skin and a doctor to check your blood for hormonal imbalances (particularly, oestrogen and progesteron).
Avoid sugar and saturated fats. Eat plenty of Omega-rich foods like oily fish, nuts, olive oil, flaxseeds, pumpkin, sunflower and sesame seeds, avocado, eggs, natural low-fat yoghurt for good bacteria, green vegetables, fresh fruits, some good carbs like brown rice, oats, millet, buckwheat...
One of the best herbal things is milk thirstle - it supports the liver and really improves problem skin (unless it's hormonal, of course).
Drink plenty of water to flush out the toxins and start your morning with a glass of water with fresh lemon juice, then have breakfast in about 20 minutes.
It takes about 4 weeks for the skin to change and about 3 months for things to improve.
