If you search the forum, there are lots of threads about this same thing. Here's one for example:

I'd like to recommend A Small Orange www.asmallorange.com/services/hosting/

I love them too. That is who I use and if you have problems they are quick to respond and assist you.

Depends on your needs, of course. Lots of descent web hosts out there if you're only planning to use php (For instance Ixwebhosting). But if you want to use Ruby on Rails or Django (Python) I strongly recommend Webfaction.

u2-web.com/ the best technical setup around. No problem handling digg traffic spikes.

I use freespiritwebsites.com and really like it. The prices are great, too.

DreamHost and BlueHost are better ones

I recommend Jaguarpc.com. Never been disappointed by them, they offer great services and hosting plan. Recently, they took off the quota of the hard drive to unlimited. If you plan to go with them, find a coupon to have a discount for life with them. I pay monthly with them, so I know I cant be ripped off by paying a full year with other hosting companies.

My suggestion to find a good host, Dont go with the cheaper one. Shop around and read hosting forums to have feedback about the company.

Couldn't you buy a domain name and point it to your current blog? I think that'd be easier than constructing a blog system from scratch.

      What she said.

Not a bad idea, at least as an interim step. Later, you could switch the blog host.

Siteground.com is the best (for me)

I use GoDaddy, mostly because it's very cheap. I've heard some people complain about the design of its website and its tendency to delete spam sites but I've never had any problems and it's definitely good value for money.

I think they also support automatic Wordpress installation which is always a plus if you're planning to start a blog.

      What roastfrog said.

I use GoDaddy, with two web hosting accounts. (One of them has special requirements - a legacy thing.)

I've had good - very good - results and service. Technically nominal (99.9..% up time), and with very good customer and technical service.

That's Web hosting. I use Blogger for my blogs - free, and you can't beat that price.

    If you are looking for a UK host then there are plenty out there for a reasonable price;

    www.purplecloud.net

I use Yahoo myself it cheap and reliable, I have used it for two years. The only time Yahoo is no good is if your planning the use of SQL databases etc.

      terse

      That's www.hostgator.com/

I know nothing about the service, other than it has an attractive mascot, but there are reviews:
Hostgator's reviews of Hostgator www.hostgatorreview.org/ (Shades of Narcissus-X!)
      Other reviews: www.cheap-web-hosting-info.com/hosting_review.php?id=6

Disclaimer: I haven't vetted any of these reviews.

DreamHost is not bad, LunarPages work well too. DreamHost = awesome features, mostly good performance. LunarPages = awesome performance, mostly good features.

I have a few discount codes for DreamHost BTW - if you decide to use them.

I have Hostgator which is good for the price, but for the same price I prefer a rather unknown webhosting service: UbiquityHosting ( tinyurl.com/ubiquityhosting ) who have good support and can install latest version of Wordpress Multiple (Wordpress Mu mu.wordpress.org/download/ ) whereas Hostgator doesn't cope so well with Wordpress Mu (furthermore you have to create a Hostgator ticket for just having wildcard support) :
