I am currently writing an online novel. But I fear in this age of streaming videos and online games nobody reads these kinds of stuff anymore.

What do you think?

    Personally, I don't.
Writing my non-fiction travel is hard enough for me

    do you mean like subtitles?

I read all the time. Only problem is, I have a very hard time reading anything very long on a computer screen, so online novels tend to get passed over by me. It's an eye-fatigue thing, I guess, and also you can't curl up with the physical book in your hands.

I read written fiction regularly. I do prefer my books in hardcopy.

I read both print books and e-books. I have an ebook reader that makes it easy to carry a few hundred books with me wherever I go.

Which reader do you use? I've been thinking about buying one.

Thanks for your answers. Personally I haven't checked any long form literary work for a long time. I only recently got this urge to write. But I fear it is a dying art these days.

I read fiction all the time. I don't tend to read it online, though, for the reasons folks have stated above.

I read a lot, but almost always in print (can be carted around easily). Only read academic articles on the internet or short pieces of interest.

Why would anyone want to read a novel online? The whole point of reading a novel is that it's something to relax with you can't relax reading of a computer.
It's why these computerised "books" will never work people don't want to read long passages off a computer screen.

Same for me - I like to curl up with some tea and a blanket and a book. I don't care what you say, the Kindle will never replace a paperback for me.

Yes and yes. I owned a RocketBook back when those were popular, and it was useful during long trips (better than lugging an extra suitcase of books).
But the perfect electronic reader has yet to be invented. Despite Kindle's success, major improvements are needed before the device will appeal to most people.

Always. I would much rather read than watch.

I read a lot, but rarely do I read novels of any kind. Maybe I get into the mood for a novel once in 2 years.

I love fiction novels. But honestly, I don't think many people read them online. I always like to curl up with a book in bed or on the couch. You can't get that same cozy, curled up feeling with a laptop. lol.

I guess so. It is always easier to watch than read online.

Argh...I knew it. I am embarking on a futile attempt.

    Web comics anyone? LOL!

I agree with above comments completely. Love to read. Love feeling the book in my hands. Oooh, especially when it has the uneven rougher feeling pages. I think if you have a personal/entertainment blog though and occasionally put excerpts up, it could be a good way to get feedback.

I like reading books I can hold. That way I can lay on the floor, or the couch, or the bed and read. I don't have a laptop. I don't know if I'd want to read a book on a screen. I think it would annoy me. I read novels to relax. Mostly science fiction, but I read other kinds of fiction at times as well.

I'm trying to figure out how one could read unwritten fiction.

Wisecrack aside, I have found an increasing number of university students who see reading as a hardship and an imposition. The thinking seems to be that it isn't available on Wikipedia or in a similarly compact form, it is not worth knowing.

hehe very funny. thats funny markstoneman. i guess you are right.
but i was referring fiction that you read versus fiction that you watch.

I have read several online fiction novels, and I've written part of one myself. I also do a lot of offline reading -- currently, China Mieville's Perdido Street Station.

There is a market for anything on the Internet. Don't get discouraged. Just find your audience and market to them, and they'll come to you.

My husband certainly does. His office & much of our house, actually,) is literally lined with books. I only read non-fiction these days, myself.

Just like what other people have said, I read books that I can hold in my hand. There is nothing better than a good book and I have loads in my collection.I would read both fiction and non fiction. That being said though, I think any type of reading whether online or in your hand is a great thing. If the quality is good then people will read it, is what I think.I know I would read it no matter where it is once its good quality.
