I'm a student at the mo, so i have abandoned the clean shaven look, I couldn't be arsed shaving every day. The problem now, is that when I shave after growing about two weeks of stubble, it takes for ever and hurts like hell. Was thinking about getting a straight edge razor, but i'm worried it could take my head off and don't even know if it would cope with stubble better. Anybody out there have experience with one, not in a reservoir dogs way?

i don't mind a bit of a fuzz myself, but after a couple of weeks my face becomes itchy. Also started to go white in patches which looks weird.

I do, my Grandad taught me when I was 12. If your worried about it hurting trim the dam thing first I do.

you don't look old enough to shave
    3. thebigandyt
did it take long to learn?
    4. crkian
Not really if your worried use the back of a comb to start with until you get used to it

does it cope with heavy stubble better than the modern razors?
    6. crkian
      It does for me.

As for not looking old enough, im not but it sounds good when Im at school

just looked at the prices. they're a bit scary. But i suppose even those disposable razors are getting expensive.

I've got sensitive skin on my face, soft as a baby's bottom it is, not very manly I know but any kind of wet shave just leaves me looking like I've done 9 rounds with a lawnmower. Best bet is one of those fancy Philishaves with the adjustable beard trimmer and the close shave option. Stops bleeding and a bit of moisturizer after kills the burning from the blades.

i can't use an electric razor, i've a beard like desperate dan, they just stall and get stuck in my fuzz

Desperate Dan, now there's a character I haven't seen much of since I was a lad. Might have to go dig out my old Dandy comics, wonder where they are?

Best bet for anyone who is shaving is go splash hot water over the area your going to shave first. I find I get less pain after the shave

just mentioned to wifey about me buying a razor, she freaked about having a lethal weapon in a house full of kids. i hadn't thought about it like that. shes usually abit highly strung about these sorts of things, but she may have a point.

Our house is full of kids as well. We put up a medicine cabinet in the bathroom for stuff like that
    2. thebigandyt
it would be kept out of reach. but i know as a kid i would have done anything to play with a sharp razor.

Save your money and get a really good expensive razor ($100-$200 or so) and clean it at least once a week thoroughly. It will save you a lot of money on razers, shaving cream, aftershave, etc. in the longrun.

And, if you don't feel like shaving everyday, you can still shave everyday quickly to keep the stubble down but at least shave in front of a mirror once every couple of days to make sure you are shaving everything!

Mach 3 does it for us male flowers although having watched Sweeny Todd it has to be a DIY job for us...

i think the whole mach 3, quattro thing is part of the problem, i get about half in inch into stubble and it gets clogged up. the whole multi blade thing is rubbish

You can use a Merkur Slant double -edge razor. This type of double-edge razor was specially designed to shave 1-2 weeks old beards.
Basically, it was designed to be used by soldiers who would shave only once every several weeks.
Straights are fun to use, not as dangerous as they look. Also, the allow for more maneuverability compared with an old style double-edge razor. However, straights are definitely more expensive and difficult to maintain. You'll need at least another $100-$150 in equipment (hone, strop, etc...) in order to keep a straight blade in good shape.
    I hope this helps.

Be a Tom Sawyer - start enjoying your shave and go swish it up regularly

I use a freshly sharpened Samurai sword when I shave, and during each swipe with the blade I scream out "Heeeeeyyyyyiiiiiiihhhh" and then glare menacingly into the mirror.

I didn't know horseys could shave....

    I know lame haha...

I used to have to shave my pops beard with a straight edge,I would have to use the steamed towel the brush with warmed up shaven cream and everything.I would buy him a new shaving kit for christmas every year. As a matter of fact I buy a little cheap barber's comb and scissor set and put it on his grave every year.

They always disappear by the next year though. I wonder if my Mimi takes them?
  14. bettieblogger
why not just go see a barber when you need a shave?
  15. HollytheHousewife
That could get kind of expensive for a dude
    1. thebigandyt
I've always fancied it for a treat.
