Topics: razor, shave, stubble
I'm a student at the mo, so i have abandoned the clean shaven look, I couldn't be arsed shaving every day. The problem now, is that when I shave after growing about two weeks of stubble, it takes for ever and hurts like hell. Was thinking about getting a straight edge razor, but i'm worried it could take my head off and don't even know if it would cope with stubble better. Anybody out there have experience with one, not in a reservoir dogs way?

I do, my Grandad taught me when I was 12. If your worried about it hurting trim the dam thing first I do.

I've got sensitive skin on my face, soft as a baby's bottom it is, not very manly I know but any kind of wet shave just leaves me looking like I've done 9 rounds with a lawnmower. Best bet is one of those fancy Philishaves with the adjustable beard trimmer and the close shave option. Stops bleeding and a bit of moisturizer after kills the burning from the blades.

just mentioned to wifey about me buying a razor, she freaked about having a lethal weapon in a house full of kids. i hadn't thought about it like that. shes usually abit highly strung about these sorts of things, but she may have a point.

Save your money and get a really good expensive razor ($100-$200 or so) and clean it at least once a week thoroughly. It will save you a lot of money on razers, shaving cream, aftershave, etc. in the longrun.
And, if you don't feel like shaving everyday, you can still shave everyday quickly to keep the stubble down but at least shave in front of a mirror once every couple of days to make sure you are shaving everything! -
You can use a Merkur Slant double -edge razor. This type of double-edge razor was specially designed to shave 1-2 weeks old beards.
Basically, it was designed to be used by soldiers who would shave only once every several weeks.
Straights are fun to use, not as dangerous as they look. Also, the allow for more maneuverability compared with an old style double-edge razor. However, straights are definitely more expensive and difficult to maintain. You'll need at least another $100-$150 in equipment (hone, strop, etc...) in order to keep a straight blade in good shape.
I hope this helps.-

I use a freshly sharpened Samurai sword when I shave, and during each swipe with the blade I scream out "Heeeeeyyyyyiiiiiiihhhh" and then glare menacingly into the mirror.

I didn't know horseys could shave....
I know lame haha...
I used to have to shave my pops beard with a straight edge,I would have to use the steamed towel the brush with warmed up shaven cream and everything.I would buy him a new shaving kit for christmas every year. As a matter of fact I buy a little cheap barber's comb and scissor set and put it on his grave every year.
They always disappear by the next year though. I wonder if my Mimi takes them? -
