Pffft, the Pope is just a man. Madonna is correct, if you believe in God, then we are all children of God. And Benedict is hardly innocent. His past prior to the papal election is not exactly filled with wonderful things.
  2. DrowseyMonkey
Surely the pope has more important things to worry about other than some aging pop star looking for attention. I still remember when she first came on the scene, she's always been light on talent and heavy on tactics. I say ignore. Why give her any credibility.

Superstar Madonna has been branded "disrespectful" by Catholics after dedicating her risque song Like A Virgin to The Pope at a recent live show.

The controversial singer, who comes from a devout Italian Catholic family but now follows the Kabbalah faith, dedicated her 1984 hit to Pope Benedict XVI at the Rome, Italy stop on her Sticky + Sweet world tour on Saturday.

She told the crowd: "I dedicate this song to the Pope because I'm a child of God. All of you are also children of God."

The Italian media called the dedication to the pontiff a surprising provocation, with Catholics insisting the remark was "disrespectful".

good catch petlvr...I didn't notice the content was stolen. Not cool.
    4. PetLvr
      almost had me fooled
    5. stephenams
scraping, is a no no for blogging.
    6. carlgalloway
So she's a scraper? byxspeaks, as a good Catholic you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself for taking a stand against Madonna when copyright theft is every bit as bad. Right now imagine some guy shouting obscenities at you for being the type of Christian who lives by some of the gospel and not others. Frankly you should be banned from BC, .... off and don't go preaching around here again.
    7. LGramlich
Good catch, PetLvr! And here I thought "thou shalt not steal" was a Commandment...
    8. byxspeaks
      hey,sorry, i'm not a good scrapper!

One member of this community is a big big tarantado at pakialamero
    9. carlgalloway
@byxspeaks, scraping is just wrong, forget about being a better scraper, what you should be doing is writing your own posts, with your own ideas, and then linking to the source. Your attitude here makes me think you are a hypocrite, and frankly I think you're only a Christian when it's convenient or you feel offended by something. Time to wake up and realize that copyright theft is still theft. Be ashamed and show some remorse, then maybe you'll get more sympathy.
  4. roentarre
She stated the fact. We added the implications to her words. I thought being virgin is a virtue.

I agree with DMonkey, Pope Benedict has got more important things or issues to confront. Madonna is Madonna, she earns a living by creating controversies like that for PR purposes.
    1. byxspeaks
she is a good singer, isn't she?
    2. stephenams
Yes she is.. and I kinda like some of her songs, especially the old ones.
    3. byxspeaks
i love the song 4minutes don't you like that? by the way are you filipino?

i love the song 4minutes don't you like that? by the way are you filipino?
  8. chrisso
And why is it such a big deal. She can say what she wants, this is called freedom of speech.
    1. byxspeaks
but there is always a limit on freedom of speech
  9. jafabrit
no. she has a right to her opinion, just as the pope has a right to his, and people have a right to not like what either of them have to say.

Ps. scraping and copying the entire content from another source is copyright infringement. Just because you provided a source link doesn't protect you. You can get your blog shut down if any of the sources of your copied content files DMCA complaints.
  10. igmarketing
Apologizing is not for pop stars nor for popes. Both of them think they're sooo important, so powerful that the world is at their feet. Yes they have the right to say what they feel, but I don't think any of them would apologize.
Anyway, anyone can be or feel "like a virgin" too, and dedicate songs to popes or presidents (only to get attention).
    See you... nice people here
    1. byxspeaks
      love your comment
  11. kristilinauer
Madonna should apologize for quite a bit she does and says, but she won't...ever.
    1. chrisso
Why should she? Let her say what she feels like saying. Or maybe should we bring back the inquisition?
    2. byxspeaks
chrisso, Madonna should know the meaning of the word 'limitation'
  12. MadameX
This isn't the first time I've seen a question like this in these forums, and it makes no sense to me. Obviously, Madonna INTENDED to offend, so why would she apologize? Presumably, she stands by her own decision.
  13. acousticguitarist
I am a Catholic, and I was Offended. She should apologize. = crap
    1. ttiger
mouhaha you make me smile today
  14. globalgirl
Does one like Madonna, a mentally unbalanced and narcissistic offensive person, have the ability, the emotional intelligence, to apologize for their misdeeds?

    I doubt it.

Her actions are quite calculated and intentional. She is offensive and loves it.

BTW, byxspeaks, you have lost all respect for copying and pasting your post.
    1. acousticguitarist
"Does one like Madonna, a mentally unbalanced and narcissistic offensive person, have the ability, the emotional intelligence, to apologize for their misdeeds?"

I totally disagree with this judgement/appraisal of Madonna.
    2. MadameX
I totally disagree with the concept of "emotional intelligence". Squishy hogwash, though I notice it's been getting a lot of play here lately.
    3. globalgirl
Well, my assessment was kind. She is a wackjob, folks, a wackjob.

Sadly, her iconic and rebellious persona has had a massive unbecoming influence upon young girls, in my opinion.

She is a sad case of narcissism and moral depravity at its finest.

    4. carlgalloway
Actually I disagree with your assessment globalgirl, in my opinion Madonna is a very talented singer, and a fantastic performer; and most definitely not anything less than a very intelligent woman along with it.
    5. MadameX
GG, I definitely agree that Madonna is a negative influence, but does that mean she's a wackjob, or just that she has different priorities than some of us? It seems to me that she has orchestrated every step of the past thirty years to achieve exactly what she wanted. That doesn't sound like insanity to me.
    6. globalgirl
Wackjobs and intelligence can be closely related.
    7. acousticguitarist
      GG

I can't work out why you'd have such a strong opinion. And bring mental instability into it. Everybody is mentally unstable when it realy comes down to it, it's just that most people conform to the ridiculous conventions of society
    8. flamingpoodle
Emotional intelligence is an oxymoron. You have your emotional side and you have your intelligent side, and the principle of the separation of powers of the heart and the head is just as useful as the separation of the church and the state.

I have it on good authority that Madonna is a very poor singer. She is however a brilliant dancer and a great performer. Her songwriting is hit and miss.

It's also true that Madonna's actions are calculated to generate publicity. Nobody would suck face with Britney Spears without having a very large monetary incentive. In this case, I think Madge's words were misconstrued.
    9. ttiger
      i like madonna very much!
    10. byxspeaks
      again sorry
  15. mikeny07
The culture of knocking Christians has been going on here forever. Nobody ever does anything about it. If you do it to other religions though here people want to hang you.

What a fair society we have.
    1. carlgalloway
Knocking Christians for the sake of it is wrong, however in this case a BC member here is taking exception to something a singer has done, yet her own blog is filled with copyright violations. Can you see why those of us who don't preach the moral high ground have such fun with people like this?
    2. RTBjr73
carlgalloway steps up to the plate with the bases loaded...her's the pitch...(crack) it's a long fly ball to center, it could be, it's gotta chance...IT'S OUTTA HERE!!!!! Homerun.

As a recovering Catholic, I guess I can say I am neither offended by Madonna, or couldn't care less if the CEO of the wealthiest company in the World is offended.
    3. flamingpoodle
Yes, all religions should be mocked equaly. Even the lack of religion, like atheism, the non prophet organisation, should be mocked.

      But don't dare mock Cthulhu!
  16. slivatree
She should confess, that's the same as an apology isn't it?
    1. stephenams
Confession and apology are two different things. And I agree with MadameX, she intended to offend, I don't think she has any intention to apologize to the Pope.
  17. pinklatex
    The Pope is not God!!!
    1. acousticguitarist
Technically speaking, from a mystical point of view, God os present in all things, that would include the pope
  18. drjay1966
    No.

Should the pope apologize to everybody he offends with his theology?
    1. byxspeaks
      oh my goodness
  19. acousticguitarist
She told the crowd: "I dedicate this song to the Pope because I'm a child of God. All of you are also children of God."
  20. voodooKobra
[I am a Catholic, and I was Offended. She should apologize.]

No. If you're offended, too bad. If the Church is offended, too bad. No laws were broken, so she owes nobody an apology. I mean, hell, I've never had a song dedicated to me. Why would I be offended if someone dedicated a song to me? Even if it was the Lumberjack Song from Monty Python, I'd still feel honored.

You should be grateful for the dedication. Two reasons for this assertion:

    1. If you say it with enough apathy in your voice, she'll realize that you don't care.
    2. Because you just had a song by a famous... well, there's no way to nice up the phrase "physical manifestation of all things vain," is there?
    1. byxspeaks
      sometimes
  21. JaydenVasara
i'm not catholic, and i view the pope as no more important than any other man.

i'm not a Madonna fan and i think she gets off by rocking any boat she can. she likes to cause controversy.

that said, i think they both have more important things to do than worry about an apology. so what if she dedicated the song. some people get offended way too easily.
    1. byxspeaks
so if someone did bad to you won't you ask for an apologise?
  22. flamingpoodle
Virginity can be cured, if detected early.

I think the pope needs to apologise to Madonna for not being Italian.
  23. jackpayne
The only thing Madonna should apologize for is portraying a woman.
    1. byxspeaks
      what do you mean?
  24. DrowseyMonkey
The most important thing about this thread...is the blog author STEALS content for their blog. See PetLvr's comments above.
    1. byxspeaks
who are you? i mean your name
  25. byxspeaks
don't worry i won't be a scrapper on my future posts, sorry!!!
    1. voodooKobra
Don't apologize to us, apologize to the people you scraped.

Then, like you said, just don't let it happen again.
    2. byxspeaks
      oh i asked
  26. byxspeaks
the question now is are you affected?
  27. globalgirl
Just who is the pope to you?
    1. byxspeaks
a head of the catholic religion
    2. globalgirl
which means what? that, like the president of the mormon church, he speaks the oracle of god? i don't get the pope.
  28. Kryptonitemare
Wait, Did someone just bump his own month old topic about something that is meh to begin with?

Anyway, I guess I'll jump into the topics then.

Shes an old skinny plastic cow who changes her faith and ways every year like we change our clothes everyday, Taking offense to her is like taking offense that a 750 pound man called you fat.

Now as for the religion, Stop telling me to go to hell, It's not nice.
  29. madonnao2001
    Madoonna above all this
